  1. Looks like one of the recent Storyville releases is supposed to be the "new first live jazz recording" From their website:
  2. And talking about old Storyville releases, this one´s a delightful hidden gem: TEDDY WILSON MEETS EIJI KITAMURA
  3. And besides the DETS vol.11 and the Armstrong live, there´s another February release: Jesper Thilo & The American Stars Vol. 1

What brownie said. Wonderful live date. 5 everlasting standards ("The way you look tonight", "There will never be another you", "I can´t get started", "Stompin´ at the Savoy" and "Body and soul") and one original ("Blues at the Cave").
  5. Me too, me too, me too...
  6. I finally had the great pleasure to meet Guy (brownie) on my recent trip to Paris. Besides having a wonderful meal poured with a delicious Languedoc wine, and showing me his absolutely stunning record collection, he led me through the twists and turns of Paris second hand jazz stores. Here´s part of what I got (many more to come): -Blue Note - The lost sessions -John Lewis - Evolution II -Teddy Wilson - Meets Eiji Kitamura -Martial Solal - Jazz´n (e)motion -Stan Kenton Orchestra - Vol.1 & 2 -Buddy Rich - This one´s for Basie -Jimmy Raney - Two Jims and Zoot -Guy Laffite - Au HCF Paris -Errol Garner - That´s my kick & Gemini -John Lewis - Grand encounter: 2 degrees East / 3 degrees West -Ammons & Lewis - The first day Some of them are the product of our dear French gentleman´s generosity. Thanks! Agustín

I´m afraid there´s no thread dedicated to this wonderful Belgian guitarist. (from Michel Herr collection) Any comments on him?
  13. A few more: The Cole Porter songbook (Charlie Parker) Further adventures (Jimmy Smith & Wes Montgomery) King Pleasure sings and he appears in the Roy Eldridge Mosaic (I should check which session are we talking about)
  14. I like the vintage look of it. Don´t worry, I have a more recent map (only 40 years old). Has Paris changed since then?
  15. Paris is the place. I´ll be there from Saturday to Tuesday. Looking forward to drinking some good French wine and listening to some live jazz with brownie! Cheers, Agustín
  16. And of course, we should maintain the spelling and the caps
  17. Hey Chuck, no Tete on stock? How did they sell (the Lucky T and the Webster)?
  18. Same for the Hot Club of Barcelona (founded on 1935, while the Paris Hot Club was founded on 1932) and Madrid. And many other small Spanish towns (specially in Cataluña), such as Manresa, Vilafranca del Penedés... Same musical orientation: 'mouldy fygges' rule!
  19. I voted for "In walked Bud", but I could have voted for any of the other selected tunes. With Monk´s compositions, you can´t go wrong!!!
  20. Hey, I AM a big fan of Ella, and I also love that CD!
  21. I´m off the board for a few days and you all start grabbing and punching newbies.... ... you´ll never learn!
  22. That´s what I also think, but there are some scholars/critics/biographers who think that only widely distributed private recordings should be included. In their opinion, the listing of almost impossible to get tapes, creates some insane collectionism.
  23. That´s why Timner´s "Ellingtonia" doesn´t include releases... and even so, it runs for several hundreds of pages.

    Charlie Mariano

    Two nice discs!
  25. I KNOW you have a version by a jazz orchestra...
