Just to start...

Another remarkable one is René Urtreger joue Bud Powell. René Urtreger with Benoit Quersin ( b ) and Jean-Louis Viale ( d ). Recorded February 24, 1955 at the Pathé-Magelian studio, Paris. Six Powell covers and two originals. One of my favorite "Parisian thoroughfare" versions. The only regretable thing is the CD length: less than 25 minutes!

Abdullah Ibrahim solo It was an incredible concert, ubu! A hard one to listen, but incredible anyway. Two parts: the first one, 65 uninterrupted minutes of his music, fascinating music: repetitive melodic phrases, silences placed here and there to highlight this and that note, percussive left hand chords, waterfalls of notes with both hands... The second one consisted of 45 (as well uninterrumpted) minutes of the same thing but IMHO this one was a bit more monotonous. Maybe it was my ear, too tired because of this shocking experience!

Mosaic Box Sets are insanely expensive at some on-line retailers which usually sell at reasonable prices. A few examples with controtempojazz.com -Mildred Bailey (10CD) Mosaic site: 160 USD controtempojazz.com: 279 € -Bunny Berigan (7CD) Mosaic site: 119 USD controtempojazz.com: 195 € -Donal Byrd/Pepper Adams (4CD) Mosaic site: 64 USD controtempojazz.com: 111 € This means controtempojazz.com is charging almost 28€ per CD when Mosaic is selling them at 16/17 USD!!! And the Mosaic Selects are sold at controtempojazz.com for 62,47€ (21€ per CD), when Mosaic´s prices are 39USD (13€ per CD). This is not a taxes matter. We´re talkig about huge margins with this stuff!!!

Finally I bought my ticket for Ibrahim´s concert. Actually, I didn´t have to choose, as Moran´s was sold-out. Will post a few comments on this one!

BTW: I bought "Coming about" and I´m diggin´ it! Previously, I only had "Allegresse".

I´d like to take part in Blindfold Test #4 as well. I´m not sure if I´ll be able to contribute anything of interest (there are dozens of members who own much more knowledge on jazz than I do), but it´ll be fun, anyway. I could collaborate on CDR-ing and distributing in old Europe, if needed! Guess I should send my address to somebody.... Jim??? The main distributor in Europe???
