  1. Thanks guys. Then I guess the next question would be: what's the difference in sound between the two? Less rumble?
  2. This question came to mind as I was browsing for a new turntable. I noticed a lot of them are belt drives. I have a Marantz direct drive turntable, which is fine. I'm just wondering what the difference is, and if direct drives are better, why are the high end models belt driven and not otherwise?

  6. I was missing some Blindfold Tests.
  7. Yes, that is something that I am concerned about if I do use it. I mean, I am just doing my own lp to cd transfers, but in a couple of cases it would be nice to remove those marks. I'm more sensitive to it with classical than with jazz.
  8. I'll check that out. Thanks, Jim. Yes, I did get your package. Thanks again!
  9. I have been looking for software that would enable me to reduce the noise on lps. I've seen Jam by Roxio, but I was wondering if there were other pieces of software that could do it as well (and cheaper).
  10. Okay, having given it another spin, this is a very very good Sonic Youth cd. I think adding another member has really injected some life back into the group. This one does have that late 80's sound to it, but it sounds very different. Thumbs up!
  11. Picked this one up at lunch. On first listen, it sounds good overall -- but kind of lethargic, in parts. I forget where, but I read this was being promoted as another "Daydream Nation." Not even close. Their last cd was fantastic. Nice Richard Prince art for the cd. I'll have to give this a few more spins. Oh yeah, nice anti piracy logo they are now including on the back tray card -- sits in with the bar code. Real government menacing looking, and annoying!
  12. updated, some price changes
  13. New items added.
  14. updated with items on hold.
  15. Thanks guys! You know, I saw this post and I had to look at my profile again. Yup, it said the 6 all right. Funny thing is, my birthday is on the 28th!!!!!!!!!!!!! Um...... but I will accept all these in advance! I made the change, BTW.
  16. May your soul be enriched and your wallet emptied!
  17. Was that Mingus date issued in the States by Prestige as "Reincarnation of a Lovebird"? I liked that double lp. I have been on a classical listening binge since I got, on trade, about a hundred or so classical lps over the Memorial day weekend. Some real clean copies of 50's and 60's stuff on Everest, Vanguard Stereolab, Living Stereo, etc. I am not an audiophile but I got these partly by label reputation, partly because of the performers, and partly because of the covers -- wonderful stuff. Most notable are two American Recording Society lps, a Roy Harris "Black Maskers" (I think it is called that), and Aaron Copland's "Appalachian Spring." Both are mono, but still sound wonderful. The Everest Paul Hindemith Symphony conducted by Adrian Boult is excellent also. And while collectors seem to drool over the Mercurys and RCAs, I haven't heard anything wrong from Vanguard Stereolab, nor Vox or early Nonesuch/Elektra. I listened to Telemann's Water Music on Nonesuch and it sounded gorgeous. Finally, and it is a guilty pleasure, because it wasn't the best sounding, but I got a bunch of Dynagrooves just to hear some of the performances. Yeah, the engineers dropped the ball on this series.
  18. I had Rites of Diablo once. I would say it is similar to Afro Cuban Suite, by Shorty Rogers, or Voodoo Suite by Perez Prado -- very much in tune with the exotica craze of the late 50's.
  19. The Blue Moons were very nice, and I'm glad I bought them. But the Mosaics were such a leap forward in sound, that I sold the Blue Moons immediately. The difference is the depth of sound and spreading of instruments over the speakers -- much clearer and rich sounding.
  20. 49. I'm addicted to the smell of the booklets and the boxes, and I need my fix real bad!
  21. I saw them play 17 years ago at the great Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh. I was 17 and with a bunch of friends and we had a blast. A couple of weekends ago I went to the WHFSestival on a date; had a great time. The Cure was the last act playing for the day. They sucked. 3/4 of the crowd left after two songs.
  22. Dan, if it falls on a Sunday, then Monday is a day off. Banks, post offices, etc. will be closed. And most businesses too, unless it is run by a guy with a hooded mask. I spent my weekend recovering from a cold, and I bought a ton of really cool classical lps for a buck a pop. 50's RCA, columbia, etc. Some really nice performances of American classical music. And some jazz as well -- Buddy De Franco, George Auld on Mercury, etc.
  23. This was an outstanding reissue that Fantasy released last year. If you like this, you should go after the "Live!" cd which is the first part of the live sessions the trio did. Actually, you can't go wrong with any of his OJC cds.
  24. I'm looking for cdrs of a couple of lps that were issued on Decca: Sal Salvador and Brass Fred Katz and Jammers Thanks
