  1. Ah, so that's a more interesting take regarding Coleman. I always knew Miles wanted Wayne after Coltrane had left.
  2. Pm on Woody shaw muse and mobley 70s
  3. How are things marketed today? There are few magazines, and a generation is mostly geared towards finding things out through the electronic grapevine - YouTube and such.
  4. It's definitely smaller. I can see it in what's being offered for sale, locally and online. And in my world where it is arts oriented, the focus is clearly on other things, and its AI and tech oriented. My few connections left in the resale world have noticed this as well. Certain analogue items will have some value simply because a generation has not grown up with it, and have an interest, but there are a heap of cultural things that are being left alone, perhaps in part because it belongs to a time and culture that is no longer identifiable.
  5. I agree with you to an extent, but its a rapidly dying generation. The interests of one group is not being passed down or shared to the next in the same way that, lets say, classic rock had been (and classic rock is pretty freaking ancient at this point). We have a younger generation that is keenly interested in doing their own thing in ways that contradict how we consume things, mostly for better, in some ways worse.
  6. Or perhaps Sam had the energy but the wrong chemistry?
  7. Seriously, how significant a market is there for pre 1950 music to warrant the Mosaic treatment in 2025? As well as post 1960 "modern" or "new thin" or avant music? New thing
  8. So far so good in terms of getting tracking for items purchased and receiving in said condition. Didn't know the Byas was still available, but got one from a member here. Rebuilding my collection, but not needing everything by and artist or group anymore. I've been listening to a LOT of live recordings, especially those issued by Elememtal/Jazz Detective and recent live Blue Notes. I was able to pick up the Lee Morgan live at the Lighthouse lp set for about list price.
  9. Good grief, I've gone nuts. Found Gerry Mulligan Concert Band box for $33, Chet Baker and Russ Freeman for $33, JJ Johnson and Stanley Turrentine sets for $69 each
  10. Don Byas Sonny Clark Savoy Bebop Dial Modern Jazz Clifford Jordan Strata East Atlantic Studio MJQ Ahmad Jamal Henry Threadgill Anthony Braxton Jazz Crusaders Thanks to fellow members, I have obtained several box sets, shown in italics.
  11. Pre wwii music on Mosaic has mostly bottomed out.
  12. This. Like I said,.Coleman wasn't bad, just not the "fit" that this particular group needed. Coleman smokes in the Left Bank sessions, At Yoshi's, and much later, at Smalls.
  13. Yes, exactly. I love his playing much later on (in the later 70s and early 80's), and he's a good musician, but fit and chemistry were everything for this group and Coleman's playing here is....... nice and pleasant. Not challenging.
  14. Received my copy today. Spinning the first disc and it's very nice. Miles is very much involved, and I'm curious as to how much room he allowed for Coleman to contribute. The energy that Carter and Wliams brings is palpable.
  15. I like the old Chronicle box.
  16. The Jazz Detective series of Jamal's Live at the Penthouse are terrific. Now listening to the middle volume of the the three double lp sets released.
  17. So I have picked up a number of Modaic vinyl and cd sets for well less than I remembered when I was actively collecting back in the 2000s. Everything depends on the artist. Pre war music, or big band or dixieland stuff goes for peanuts. Certain hard bop or modern jazz goes for retail or well above. I just picked up the Lee Morgan Lighthouse set on vinyl for about retail on discogs. Missed out on all that kind of stuff over the past decade.
  18. Thanks to Philly Q for the Braxton and Threadgill sets. JSngry, I am doing mostly vinyl, but specific artists and albums. Doing cds of course where I can't do vinyl. Enjoy both mediums, and I stream from my hard drive as well. Kevin, I'll have to thikn about the Clifford Jordan. Hemming and hawing over how much do I really want to hear all his material from that period. I do need to get the Lee Morgan Complete Live at the Lighthouse...
  19. Ahmad Jamal - Live at the Penhouse 1967-68 (Jazz Detective)
  20. Kevin, I have no idea what the market is any more. From what I can see on ebay it is feast or famine, and I know I have picked up a lot of boxes recently at unusually affordable rates. T.D. has helped. Crossing the Byas and Crusaders off the list....
  21. Replied. Aslo looking for vinyl.sets of Lee Morgan, Curtis Fuller, Horace Parlan, and Blue Mitchell
  22. Charles Lloyd - Manhattan Stories
  23. Rebuilding my collection. I am looking for the following sets: Don Byas Sonny Clark Savoy Bebop Dial Modern Jazz Clifford Jordan Strata East Atlantic Studio MJQ Ahmad Jamal Henry Threadgill Anthony Braxton Jazz Crusaders Please PM.
