  1. .....but mostly because of the collateral damage they do to our bank accounts.
  2. You can preorder tbrough bandcamp.
  3. Damn i strongly disagree with this sentiment.
  4. Good. It's like he took what they did and expanded upon it. Not a slavish imitation.
  5. You will be shocked at how well he invokes his father's playing. And the spirit of Ornette Coleman as well.
  6. I just listened to this album today for the first time. He's referencing his father, especially the group Old and New Dreams. It's a stunner. With Ron Miles, Brian Blade, and Scott Colley. Might be one of my favorite albums released this year.
  7. I have to say, I'm really liking the live albums that have been coming out recently. More than the studio material.
  8. Around $25 shipped. They sell quickly but do get restocked.
  9. Should anyone be looking for speaker cables, I recently purchased this from Amazon and recommend it. Really good for not a lot of money. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06ZZ5HCTM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  10. For the longest time I had thought this was Ron McMaster:
  11. How long have you been here? Back in the blue note bulletin board days we would froth at the mouth over the latest Connoisseur, OJC, etc. reissues. Pages would be wasted discussing them. The well has run dry, except for live dates, and anything that isn't the 100th reiteration of an album does gets people's attention. There hasn't been much to talk about that hasn't been discussed before. This is something different.
  12. Who's getting wound up? It's a marketing push, for sure, of an artist long dead, pilfering through what scraps of unissued material remains. That it still makes for good listening, even for a rehearsal session, says a lot about the high standards of performing everyone involved did. It's just different now. Jazz is different now.
  13. Never. It just shows that they performed at a high level, all the time.
  14. Clearly he had expectations that just was not going to be there. It's not like finding a previously undiscovered live date.
  15. Yes, there's nothing revealing, just hard playing and creatively executed. Even the filler is killer. Brody must have been drinking when he wrote the review. Low boil???????????? No way in hell.
  16. The whole group is coming out swinging. Nothing held back.
  17. Listening to this now. Damn, this lives up to the hype.
  18. WAMU has had a long history of initiating outstanding programs, then after many years and successful fundraising campaigns, suddenly deleting them. I stopped supporting them over twenty years ago. DC is a news and talk junkie town; unfortunately, this program and the jazz and latin and world music programs from a Pacifica station WPFW, are either being cancelled or moved to the graveyard shifts. While people can always stream in the offices and cars, I miss the concept of individually curated music radio programs -- this is how we get to listen to new music. Not any more. Now I have to dig and search for it.
  19. Jackie McLean Fire & Love Junko Onishi at the Village Vanguard The Legendary Oscar Denard Any Ralph Peterson disc.
  20. This is the only jazz multi disc set I have purchased this year and I have been playing it non stop. Sound is excellent and the playing unbelievable.
  21. Looking forward to this release.
  22. Scott, I prefer this kind of release over the 100th iteration of A Love Supreme. Granted, it is scraping the bottom of the barrel for material, but unless unissued broadcast performances are discovered, this is a nice surprise.
  23. I've had instances where someone would buy a disc from me, and I ship it with tracking. It would travel across country, looping several times in a full circuit, before finally arriving at the proper destination three states away from me.
  24. The SHM Japan reissue series of the past few years have been really affordable and have the best sound quality of all. They could just cut and paste those for the US pressings.
