It's titled Mindscape, and it's what an antique collector would call a bric-a-brac; nothing special, nothing spectacular, nothing specifically memorable.

If you want the best - use the Alesis Masterlink. You plug your preamp tape loop into it, it burns into 24 bit/96 kHz, indisitinguishable from vinyl. No computer and sound cards needed. It can be had for $700. I don't have one, but I see one in my future. http://www.stereophile.com/cdplayers/605/

Grant Green - Complete Quartets With Sonny Clark (2 discs) - $10 That's an amazing price. Why are you selling these so cheap??? Owe your bookie?
-
Yes : that's what i say : after a brutal take off, those NM "heavies" have found their cruse altitude on Ebay : between 1000 and 1500 $. Of course its very high price, but I think they will not reach 2000 $ like in previous auctions. Anyway, the two have been purcahsed by a japanese dealer... You can imagine the resell price.... Roundagain, the seller, is a very honest, reliable seller and a nice person. He deserves his success. I second that. This man owns a neat little record store in Providence, 20 minutes from where I live. I bought some records from him in the past.

What's up with eBay Completed Items Search?
Dmitry replied to Dmitry's topic in Offering and Looking For...
yes they offer this description service but i think you have 3 searches for free , otheriwse only 30 days back How does one subscribe to the extended search? -
I'm researching some Mosaics on eBay and I can only search items that ended within this month. That sucks. Used to be you could look back 3 months. Is this something new?

How are the sonics of the BLue Note 5000 series 10" Lps
Dmitry replied to Dmitry's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Up [heh]. -
I have several Toshiba 10" reissues which sound terrific, but ovbviously that bears little or no value in judging the original BN 10" microgrooves. How do the original 5000 series BN 10" microgrooves sound in comparison thp-o their 1500 series Lexington Ave and and later 12" reissues? Thanks.

Why did Blue Note switch from the 1500 to 4000 series?

Does anybody know Madonna's email address? -
Obviously the record was graded dishonestly by the seller. What is his handle on eBay? I will stay way from buying his Lps. Same thing happened to me when I bought a $50 Lp from a heavy-hittin' eBay seller atomic_records a few years ago. They graded it as Vg+ or NM-, I don't remember now; Lp had a major scratch along one side. It took them over a month and several emails from me to issue a refund after I sent the Lp back to them. Since then I've stayed away from their auctions, even though they list some tempting records from time to time. Their feedback is nearly impecable, fwiw. Perhaps they've straightened out their act... http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...=atomic_records

Why did Blue Note switch from the 1500 to 4000 series?
Dmitry replied to Dmitry's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Actually, BLP 4002, Jimmy Smith - House Party was recorded on 2/25/57 & 8/25/57. In comparison, BLP 1593, Lou Donaldson - Blues Walk was recorded on 7/28/58. But all of this is somewhat secondary to me; I'd rather know why Lion and Wolff started the 4000 series when they could've just made a transition from the 1500 series onto 1600 and on. Aren't you curious also? -
The last 1500 series Lp was BLP 1599, Bennie Green - Soul Stirrin' (recorded on 4/28/58). Imo, the logical continuation would be to go on to 1600, etc. Instead they started the 4000 series. The first Lp in that series was BLP 4001, Sonny Rollins - Newk's Time (recorded on 9/22/57). Would it be correct to assume that for a time the two series were being released side by side?
-
Agreed. Although the inclusion of Stevie Wonder's I Just Called To Say I Love You was a bit of a surprise, albeit a pleasant one. I never realized Bix did a trumpet solo on that one.

What does this mean??????????????????????? What it means is that I'd rather be turked by a syphilitic bear than listen to all of Elling's records in a row.

Is this an original pressing of the Empyrean Isles?
Dmitry replied to Dmitry's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
It's possible I got it from you, or from a record fair somewhere. I'm slowly but surely shifting through the hundreds of albums I've accumulated and never played. Now just yesterday I got a lead on a storage unit with 40,000 albums! Most of them are crap, but maybe if I spend a day I'll find something worthwhile. -
This ain't nothin'. A couple of years ago, on eBay, someone was selling Bechet's police charge sheet from 1920s, complete with mug shots and a finger print. Apparently that time Bechet was charged with knifing another man in an arguement. If he were alive today, he'd be a gangsta rapper. Bling.

Really? Why not?

Well, you can buy a new Pro-Ject turntable with their proprietory tone-arm, cartridge and integrated phono stage [Pro-Ject Debut III/Phono], or you can get a used Rega [that's what I'd do, anyway]. In that case you will need a phono stage, otherwise you won't be able to play records. Your aux jack isn't going to cut it. Tutnable output signal in milli-volts, that's why you need a phono stage. Best advise anyone can give you is to go to this place for your turntable basic training - http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/vinyl/bbs.html

Maybe I am wrong but I see substantially more Blue Note Mono 4000 series pressings on eBay than Stereo pressings. Does that justify saying that BN pressed fewer Stereo Lps before their sale to Liberty? Also, I have read somewhere that from the early 60s on BN recorded in Stereo, then down-mixed to Mono in post-production. Is that true?

Is this an original pressing of the Empyrean Isles?
Dmitry replied to Dmitry's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Hi Dmitry. I happened to find this thread in an search recently. Some info on the subject from Allan Songer here and from Peter A here. Obviously, I'm not sidewinder, but I suppose it's because it's got no "ear"... Thanks for the leg-work, Daniel. I just read the thread you linked to. Eye-opening stuff! Looks like this Empyrean Isles is an early Liberty pressing. But it's a keeper. It sounds amazing, trounces the RVG cd from the first second to last. What a difference in sonics. LP is involving, vivid, while the cd is muddy, lifeless, with terrible sound-stage. -
Just to clarify - these were issued by Blue Note prior to their sale to Liberty and were not pressed at the Plastilite plant?

Thanks. Is yours signed RVG or VAN GELDER? When did BN stopped using the Ear? Is yours a deep groove? Why do you think it's an early Liberty pressing?
