  1. I dunno, either, mate. At least, I don't think they're cursing at one another But it's a bit off topic. MG
  2. He didn't half make a lot of records! I don't have any Django. Do these sets duplicate material? MG

  8. No you can play straight albums. It's just that shuffle is a nice way to mix things up. Ah, thanks TTK MG
  9. Do you mean that you can't load a few albums onto an ipod then just play one of them straight through, but have to pick out each individual track? My wife wants one for Christmas, so I guess I'll have to learn about them. MG

  11. I think it's either Plas Johnson, Cornell Dupree or Bernard Purdie. Probably Plas. I think Purdie's 7,000 recording sessions may be an exaggeration. Plas claims over 5,000. Idris Muhammad must be up there somewhere, too. Then there are all those guys like Bernie Glow, Al Klink and Romeo Penque, who seemed to work on every record ever made in Hollywood. 'Course, they may not count as jazz musicians MG
  12. Dirty Ol' Bastard Dusty Groove Silm Dusty - remember "A pub with no beer"?
  13. I have a McCoy Mrubata album - "Firebird" on Jive Jazz. Dated 1989. It's OK, but not that OK. He may have improved over the last 20 years, however. "Monwabisi" is splendid. I don't know "B". Perhaps I should get an order together myself Next year, I think. "Woza" is most enjoyable. MG
  14. I have one of them - just called "Jimmy Owens". A nice version of "Caravan" - well, it's all OK, really, but I hardly ever feel like playing it. Kenny Barron, Chris White, Brian Brake and a selection of guitarists. Dr John made one for Horizon - "Tango palace" (740). Another one I don't feel inclined to play more often than once every several years. Alvin Robinson is on guitar - the reason I bought it. MG

  17. Happy Birthday Junior. Have a good one. MG
  18. The Sensational Nightingales is one group I never got around to, for no reason I can remember; just never bought any when I had the opportunity. Never even heard anything of theirs. This one is cheap on Amazon UK http://www.amazon.co.uk/Best-Sensational-N...9510&sr=1-1 What's it like, Jeff? I see it's Peacock material. There was also a lot of stuff on Nashboro and later on Malaco. How does that stuff compare? MG This 78 is the only thing I have by the Nightingales - Peacock 1765: Burying Ground/In My Mind. I see that the first side is on the "Best of" collection. All I can say is that this is a really nice six minutes of music - strong shuffle beat; strong lead voice with group responses, including a falsetto tenor; bass voice doubling the bass line. It's more like the Blind Boys of Alabama than any other group I can think of right now. Thanks Jeff. MG

  20. I could be wrong, but I don't think that's literally the case. Yes, at least one frequent poster on that forum does include a good deal of the article to which he's drawing attention, but to read the whole thing one needs to click on the link that he supplies. If that fellow notices this post, I would kindly suggest that his "teasers" be a good deal more brief from now on. If he doesn't see this post or chooses not to heed it, I'll follow up more directly. Oops - I think I'm guilty, too :blush2: MG
