  4. I know what you mean, but don't you "hear" the words when you're listening to an instrumental version? And isn't that part of what the musician intended to happen? MG
  5. Nice reminder TTK - pulling my copy out for tomorrow. But I'll listen in stereo A different twofer tonight St James Choir of Detroit - Come to Jesus - Sound of Gospel (SOG was owned by Armen Boladian - the man behind Eastbound and Westbound - from Funkadelic & the Ohio Players to the choir of the St James Baptist Church ) MG
  6. To entertain, educate and enlighten, while expressing yourself - that's showbiz folks (not to mention all the extra expenditure generated ) Well done Jim - not for the number, but for all the E's. MG

  15. Thanks Crisp - it doesn't say how long the sale will last. Do you know? No idea, MG. Sorry. ISTR a similar sale last year, so if you pass on this one, there's bound to be another. Well, I'll take my chances and order them next month (and compare with Amazon UK sellers, before I do). If they're too expensive then, I won't get them. And why is the frame of this window so wide in this thread? MG
  16. Ah, nostalgia! Klooks Kleek! I'd forgotten that place. MG
  17. Oh shit! There are quite a few there I want: "Hobo flats"; the Crusaders' two Motown albums; "Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf", which I didn't know had come out. I can see February is going to be expensive. MG
  18. I’ve got the answer, now, to the relationship between Super Biton de Segou and the Orchestre Regional de Segou. The Orchestre Regional de Segou was created by the merging of two rival bands – Segou Jazz and The Rennaisance. Super Biton was created by the merging of Orchestre Regional de Segou and Alliance du Jazz. MG
  19. Thanks Crisp - it doesn't say how long the sale will last. Do you know? I might upgrade a few I've got on LP, but I don't want 'em til next month. And should I get "Sidewinder"? I had it in the sixties, but it seemed like a one-track album, so I ditched it pretty quick. I'm not much of a Lee Morgan fan, anyway... MG
  20. I guess that was my problem with Clem; 'board personas' annoy the fuck out of me. I'm interested in hearing your views, but I don't need you to entertain me. Some other posters past and present have bugged me in this fashion as well. Save your silly alternate personalities for your blogs and impressing women you're trying to pick up, guys. Not that it'll work there either... I don't think it was just to entertain. Clem had some exceptional and controversial points to make; there's no doubt in my mind that the style he chose to use was deliberately intended to make people think about these points - and not just to agree. If you want people to agree with you, you'll chose a more persuasive style than that. I don't think he particularly wanted people to agree; but I think he did want people to think about these things. "Pour epater les bourgeois" (can't be asked to do accents). But the purpose in 19th C French literature was always to shock the bourgeoisie out of the complacency of received opinions. MG
  21. Here's a slight geographical problem I noticed yesterday. The CD issue of Grant Green's "The Latin bit" contains bonus tracks, one of which is the rather well known song "Granada". On the sleeve, it's spelt "Grenada" MG
  22. Leo Parker - Rollin' with Leo - BN DMM Jimmy McGriff - Skywalk - Milestone MG
  23. Bobby "Blue" Bland Wynonie "Mr Blues" Harris Blues Boy King
