  5. Just saw this when I visited the Concord site for BFT purposes. Been there since Christmas Eve. I'd like to see a twofer of "Jazz 2" and "My kind of jazz 3", for a start. There are other goodies as well, though I don't think I'm terribly fussed over the Christmas album. MG
  6. WOO HOO!!! I GOTS ONE RIGHT!!! I don't have any details, though.... OK, details - this is, somewhat astonishingly, from an album by Vince and Bola Sete, http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&a...10:0zfexq8gldte though Bola Sete must be off having a quiet cough and a drag. It doesn't say who the bass player & drummer are, so I don't know. MG

  10. Gus Jenkins' name rings a bell. I associate it with that of Plas Johnson for some reason. Is this Flash records the one run by Charlie Reynolds? MG That Flash records was run by Charlie Reynolds. Gus Jenkins was a pianist who first recorded for Chess in the early 50's (unreleased until the 70's). He moved to L.A. and recorded for Specialty, Jake Porter's Combo label, and Flash, before starting two labels of his own in the 60's - Pioneer and General Artists. In later years, he was less active in music and had his own framing business. Thanks Paul. MG

  15. Sure there's still talent around, but I think the main reason the music industry ain't what it used to be is the complete fragmentation of audiences combined with the blockbuster mentality of the industry. You can't have it both ways without surrounding yourself with bland, prepackaged clones with the shelf life of an old tangerine... I'm not sure fragmentation of audiences has occurred (yet?). If you're right, however, it spells the end of major labels. Now, I'd say "good" to that, because I've never bought much stuff that was actually produced by the majors. But if they go, I wonder what happens to the music (and masters of) all the great indie companies the majors bought in the fifties, sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties? Library of Congress? MG
