  1. The really dreadful thing is, the risk assessment form would be right today. Same with just getting on your bike and riding out into the country, trespassing on farmland or ruined farmhouses and so on. Any parent now who let their kids do what my mother used to let me and my mate get up to would be out of her mind. MG
  2. Lemme "Special" Mabaso Lulu Masilela Zacks Nkosi
  3. They also issued some nice British Jazz originals of the early 60s including sought-after titles by Tubby Hayes, Paul Gonsalves, Ronnie Ross, Bill LeSage etc. I have a couple of them and the sound quality is good. They also issued Hoagy Carmichael's Pacific Jazz album with Art Pepper etc. clearly sometime after EMI took over UA in 1980; I bought mine in 1989, but it might not have been a recent release, but it did say Liberty was part of Capitol. Don't like the pressing of this one much. MG
  4. Hey, you can't have that - it's not a "REAL" Beatle album MG
  5. Harold "Pop Pop" Rollins Leroy "Batman" Rankin Frank "Floorshow" Culley
  6. That would be WONDERFUL!!!! How better to express the reality that is the United States of America? MG
  7. I always wanted to be crap at sports - and succeeded magnificently! I couldn't get this idea of winning; couldn't see the point. To me, sports were something to be enjoyed. And, as far as I was concerned, that meant me doing things I wasn't supposed to do. Like taking the piss out of the teacher or other players or the game itself; or cheating obviously; or, grinning broadly, letting an opponent score when I could easily have stopped him; or skiving. Every so often we were forced to do a cross country run, through the wild parts of a huge park near the school. I lived at the edge of this park and the route ran close to home. So I'd stop off and have a cup of tea and a Jimmy Riddle; get back to school a lot later than everyone else. MG
  8. Delmark has a dandy cd of the Jacquet Apollos - 23 tracks. Ah, I keep forgetting about that. That's all the Apollos, isn't it? MG
  9. Charles Earland - Boss organ - Choice MG
  10. Oh wow! I have a 45 by Jimmy Pelham on the Pelnor label! MG
  11. Ernie "Shep" Shepherd Billy Butler Clifford Scott
  12. You're right MG What don't I agree with? I'm in, I'm in. George Braith's "Musart" is a one track LP. MG
  13. Never heard of Faith Hill. Good looking. MG
  14. Chris - is this discussion related to the "Satch plays Fats" LP? MG
  15. Yes, there is an animal there MG
  16. You got me, Bentsy! Even with higher postage, that was cheaper than Amazon UK's lowest. Funny, I thought there'd be more than just 8 tracks with alternative takes. Prez got three R&B chart entries out of these recordings. So that's three out of four singles on the chart. He was pretty popular! (And rightly so.) Thanks! Oh, and this one turned up this morning Unfortunately, it has this cover But it's still HOT! MG
  17. Oh yes - the bad part about this is the sleeve. The original is MUCH nicer MG
  18. That's it! Thanks Niko! Thus armed with a title, I found the ref on the All Music Guide. The review says the sound leaves a lot to be deisred. Well, I've no complaints about this. And the music is HOT! (Well, I'm only on the second track ) MG
  19. This was cheap, so I ordered it, expecting it to be good. Haven't heard it yet. But there's no sleeve notes - just a advert for dozens of other records this company has put out. Does anyone know - When it was recorded? Who's playing? What label did it originally? Anything else intresting about it? The label this issue is on is Double Pleasure, manufactured in Germany. It's a 2CD set. Tracks are Disc 1 Fuerza gigante Quitate la macara Nadie se salva e la rumba Amor artificial Guajira para Vieques El hijo de obatala Club mix 50 anniversario Disc 2 Testigo fui Indestructible Ay no Arepientete Guarare La hippocrecia y la falsedad Que viva la musica Grateful for any info. MG
  20. Zoot Sims The Sims Twins The Soul Sisters
  21. Fletcher Henderson - Wrappin' it up - Quadromania MG
  22. Was about to post this (one of my all-time Xmas musical musts) but refrained from it because the thread starter "didn't want no blowin' " MG
