  1. Baffling they say, but I think they look cool. It figures that aliens would be into Pi. Oh no, surely it's :rsly: MG
  2. Jerry Ragavoy Bert Berns Erma Franklin
  3. Wow! He lived a cRaZy backwards life as well! "Danger W. Robinson" Oh! I'm having a bad brain evening! MG
  4. Regrettably, you're right on that. Power and reason don't necessarily share the same bed. MG
  5. Took me a while to work it out. It's rather good. But why? So much music, so little time. MG
  6. Oh, and wasn't there another sleeve with the balck and white birds? MG
  7. I was trying to think what that Erp was used for. You beat me to it. I think there was another, which had the Erp building with the endless levels on it. Can't remember what that was, either. MG
  8. I haven't played that CD for a while. I usually play the more recent reissue which has the two complete albums, but not the alternative takes (though there was room for them). Much though I love "Coumba", I have a marginal preference for "Utru horas". Some of my newies have got some blinders on them: Concha Buika (well, you knew I was going to say that, didn't you) - "Volver volver", from her new one, "Nina de fuego". Robbie Jansen - "Labourer's samba" from "The Cape doctor". Several more on this are queueing up to give me a stiff uppercut. Balla & ses Balladins - "Wilikabo" from "The Syliphone years". This compilation is stuffed FULL of great cuts; another one was my pick last week MG MG
  9. Good grief Chris! You looked EXACTLY like one of the senior people in my former office! I wondered what the hell George was doing on Organissimo for a few seconds! (Unfortunately, there is no pic of him on the web.) You'd have hated him MG
  10. Isn't that from a Tex Avery cartoon? Tex Avery is a likely suspect, I guess. I don't know who drew it. Someone sent it to me and I thought it was pretty nice. MG
  11. Over here, it's not Rube Goldberg who's proverbial, it's W Heath Robinson (1972-1944) This splendid bit of surrealism is titled "Stout members of the sixth column dislodge an enemy machine gun post on the dome of St Paul's" MG
  12. The funny thing is, I didn't know who Rube Goldberg was until you told me a couple of years ago. And I didn't (and don't) know that my avatar is a Rube Goldberg drawing - though it's the right style, kind of. MG
  13. That MUST be CHEWY! Do put credits in, so our geniuses get full props (or otherwise) MG Oh, didn't see it at first.

  15. I think this is a very interesting list. Sure, they're all just someone's opinion, but that's really all there is, isn't there? I have 6 The best of Earl Bostic- Earl Bostic, King 1951 Leapin, and Lopin'- Sonny Clark, Blue Note 1961 Trash talkin'- Albert Collins, Imperial records Liberty 1970 Tiny in Swingville- Tiny Grimes, OJC 1959 A world of piano !- Phineas Newborn Jr, Fantasy 1962 Unity- Larry Young, Blue Note 1965 The inclusion of Grimes, Collins and Bostic among the usual suspects is quite refreshing. And there are others, too. The Getz "Dynasty" is an album I keep nearly buying over the years; if I ever bought a Getz, it would be that one. MG
  16. That's ridiculous. It's a puzzle or a bone of contention because it was a freakin' psychic, for crying out loud. This is pathetic. It doesn't have a damned thing to do with "kids come first". It has to do with a complete lack of both common sense and intelligence. Well, not sure either view is valid in this case. I gather this is Canada. Don't know the law there but surely the education authorities, whoever they are, have a duty to provide suitable education for a kid. It seems obvious that they weren't doing so in this case - the kid has needs that quite clearly aren't being met. Being taught in a school specialising in those needs would mean that even low grade teacher's assistants would know a thing or two more than this one apparently did. MG
  17. I think probably the Randy Weston select. MG
  18. Oh well, I thought you might be being subtle, so I checked the personnel of Etta's "Come a little closer"; no dice. So I googled him and I was right; never heard of this guy before (I assume you mean the bass player). Vaguely heard one or two of the recordings he was a sideman on. But none of them mentioned in Wiki are by people I'm interested in, so it's not very likely I would have run into his name before. MG
  19. Russ Dewbury Gilles Peterson King Britt
  20. Looks like something recorded by Decca West Africa in the sixties. Is it? MG No, this is 70's material. Do I get half a point for Decca West Africa? MG
  21. You're supposed to show us! At present, I've got this It's nice, but some of my icons are a bit hard to see. Perhaps I won't keep it long. Haven't found the Allen key Andy tells me is missing... MG
