  2. Pooh gosh, that IS obscure! Is it available on the Continent? MG http://www.dustygroove.com/item.php?id=dj2...p;ref=index.php Thanks. Never thought someone would come up with it. But, seeing this, I've now found a cheaper one on Amazon.fr. MG
  3. The relationship became a nasty mess and I think some kind of settlement was finally reached, but the personal differences remained beyond fixing. Is Don Schlitten still around? MG

  6. Ah, it's one of those French Xanadu CDs, is it? Don Schlitten was producing LPs for Joe Fields in the early days, then opened Xanadu. This is the first time I've heard of a Muse being reissued on Xanadu but I guess Don must have retained ownership of those masters. Thanks to everyone who's contributed to my knowledge on this. MG
  7. What on earth is the world coming to? Teenagers doing what adults tell them? We had a bit more backbone in my day, I can tell you MG
  8. My wife was driving to look after our grandsons (school's out) the other day when this was on the radio news. Apparently, the BBC newsreader did the usual po-faced report, then she said, "and here's the recording," and played it. She then burst into hysterical laughter. And, for the whole of the rest of the news break, continued to break out into giggles. THAT has made more news than the original story MG

  14. Fopp's closed now - no doubt flogging cheap stuff to Niko MG Which Fopp - Cardiff? Manchester's was re-opened by HMV (but retaining Fopp's name) and from what Niko says it sounds as if Cambridge's is OK too. Ah, interesting. I heard that the whole chain closed. Some sites might have been bought up by other firms, of course. Cardiff definitely hasn't been reopened - not that it was worth a wank anyway. MG IIRC HMV reopened about eight of the eighty or so stores in the former Fopp chain. These were the still profitable ones and tended to be in places like London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, etc. Perhaps Cambridge fell in the profitable category because of all those students! Oh well, the Fopp's branch in Cardiff was only 70/80 yards from the HMV shop, so reopening it wouldn't have made any kind of sense for HMV, which had recently doubled its floorspace. MG
  15. There are some more. As far as I know, the numbers went up to 595. 586 Lightnin’ Hopkins – Straight blues (BV compilation apparently) 587 Pink Anderson – Medecine show man (BV1051) 588 Rev Gary Davis – Have a little faith (BV1032) 589 Sonny Terry – And his mouth harp (Riv 644) 590 Driftin’ Slim – Somebody hoo-doo’d the Hoo-Doo man (Miles 93004) 591 Jimmy Witherspoon – Blue Spoon (PR7327/7418) (seems to be a twofer) 592 Rev Gary Davis – Guitar & banjo of (PR Folklore 14033) 593 Arbee Stidham – Tired of wandering (BV1021) (I have this one) 594 Scrapper Blackwell – Mr Scrapper’s blues (BV1047) 595 Smokey Babe – Hottest brand goin’ (BV1063) MG I have the Driftin' Slim and Scrapper Blackwell--but I didn't know there was a small gap. I was including the OBCs as OJCs. Ah, right! MG

  17. Damn! I just remembered my mate has (or had) a copy of that Willene Barton LP! MG
  18. Very interesting - thanks for that. Pete Fallico has already responded to my e-mail. MG
  19. Are we talking three as a leader or what? I've got Soul Sisters plus the LP she did with Leo Wright and KB, and a Muse session that Nat Simpkins is on, so that is three right there. Are there any other leader or sideman appearances? Her third as a leader. The second was on Mainstream. She also appears on two Hank Crawford CDs and a Bobbi Humphrey LP on - get this - Malaco Jazz, "City beat", which is really awful. She's only on one track of that. Nice pic of Bobbi on sleeve, though. MG
  20. Hi Brownie - lovely to see you! And as ever, on the button with what people want to know. Good to know you're still lurking. MG
  21. I thought I'd mention these albums that turned up a couple of days ago. They're all by HipLife rapper Tic-tac Masom was his first, in 2001 Masem was his second, in 2002 Wope was his fourth, in 2004. Interesting to get three at once. He developed away from his primary influence, Busta Rhymes, towards a much more Ghanaian style by 2004. On a second listen, they're even better than I first thought. And the most recent is terrific!!!! MG
  22. I've written to Pete Fallico, saying Dayton needs rediscovering! MG
  23. Dayton Selby, a DYNAMITE organist, only recorded once, to my knowledge. He was o Eddie Chamblee's fabulous Prestige album "The rocking tenor sax of Eddie Chamblee". If you got my BFT, you'll have heard Dayton waking y'all up! Dayton must be getting on - he has a pre-Jimmy Smith style so must have been working on the organ since the early fifties. However, I see from the sleeve notes of Gloria Coleman's new CD, "Sweet Missy" http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...c=41697&hl= that she is a friend of Dayton. YAAAAYYYY!!!! So, all you Newark residents, get on out there and find him!!!! MG
  24. Just found it at CD Baby!!!!! Wow!!!! Wow!!!! Here's the page. The line forms on the left. http://cdbaby.com/cd/gloriacoleman Got mine on order already with ZERO hesitation. Only her third album in 45 years! Gloria is a very nice, very independent, lady who plays a hell of a lot of organ. Everyone likes her and calls her Auntie Gloria. What more is it necessary to say? MG
