Other John Patton discs ?
The Magnificent Goldberg replied to The James Trane's topic in Artists & Recordings
as we have a similar discussion going on elsewhere at the moment... it seems that nobody had noticed that The Jamestrane had also asked for other artists besides Patton that he might enjoy - that you really can't answer that easily with just the search function... You're right. JamesTrane hasn't been around since 21 April. Not my fault on this occasion, but, "guilty, m'lud". MG -
What music did you buy today?
The Magnificent Goldberg replied to tonym's topic in Miscellaneous Music
"Mestizuo", the second of the three Concha Buika albums I ordered the Sunday before last turned up today. This one is her jazz album - her first album. It's almost all accompanied only by Jacob Sureda on piano. This isn't what you'd expect of a jazz singer. It's not in the least cool; more like filled with the pain of red hot knives which, when she sings, in "Autumn leaves" a line like "and I miss you, I miss you, I miss you, I miss you" she turns in your stomach. Her voice, and how expressively she uses it, is just amazing! Particularly on the two Spanish songs, I kept finding myself thinking of the great Cuban singer/pianst, Bola de Nieve, to whose music Ubu (I think) introduced me a couple of months ago. MG -

Sorry to report that, for the first time, I got that problem about twenty minutes ago. I was let in (obviously) after a few tries, but I'm afraid to leave now in case the bogey-man gets me again. MG

Indeed! The days of JPR are long gone. Wales can sometimes do well, but... Really, of course, there is the problem of actually finding an uncrowded restaurant in Cardiff on Saturday evening. MG -

Wow ask a simple question if anybody has any info on these re-releases (because I saw no info anywhere) and what do I get? A bunch of dick heads telling me to show myself. You guys are a classy bunch! A classy bunch of jazz snobs. I guess if I have a question I won't ask here for fear of some ass jumping down my throat. Stick around. If you have good things to say or good questions to ask, you'll be accepted here. And if you wanna make a nuisance of yourself, you'll still be accepted MG

Considering the length of time of his career, Von Freeman does not have that many recordings as a leader. His recent recordings for Premonition seem to be the most activity he has had from a recording perspective in his career. I enjoy all the recent Premonition discs, but my personal introduction was the two Nessa releases, Serenade & Blues and Have No Fear, both of which are easily recommended. I also like his debut recording as a leader, Doin' It Right Now and the SteepleChase quartet recordings that I believe were all recorded at the same sessions. Thanks Relyles. Are the Nessa's available? I've got "Doin' it right now" - played it this morning Did Rahsaan produce the Steeplechase albums, too? MG I see now my sentence structure may have created a little confusion. The SteepleChase quartet recordings (recorded in 1992) were not produced by Rahsaan. Ah, thanks. MG

I can respect that, but I like meat. I kinda favor the Native Americans' perspective when it comes to killing animals for food; e.g. respectful toward the animal as a living creature, "sacrificing" itself for my nourishment. Well, yes, until one remembers the scene in "The restaurant at the end of the universe". MG -

What occurred to me was that shooting the guy seemed more like a "last straw" job than a first offence, as it were. That there's more that isn't (yet) known about the situation. MG -

I didn't think so, either, but it wasn't as clear as Aloc usually makes things, so I wasn't sure. Some of it was definitely written by person of the female persuasion. MG -
Bruyninckx - Jazz Discography - edition 6
The Magnificent Goldberg replied to Chuck Nessa's topic in Discography
Thanks for posting this Chuck. I'm not up with Brxxx;jhdflkjh, partly because I can't be asked to spell his name, but mainly because I didn't understand all those different books of bits of things he was issuing way back. But I've got a feel from other threads that he's the biz - and a damn sight better vfm than Lord - of which I have v4 or 5. But I don't understand "L-Z as in edition 5", because I don't have that. Can you please let me know? Also, what does "actualisation" mean? MG -
