For more detail about a specific label, there's Charlie Gillette's "Making Tracks: Atlantic Records and the Growth of a Multi-Billion-Dollar Industry", which is very good indeed. A great album that BN or Water should have reissued. At least another Charles Kynard appearance will be available. Indeed. I have a Toshiba edition of this LP. It's a great session! This however is outrageous in its audacity. Oh well, I have Muse CDs of both of these, so I shan't be even slightly tempted. MG

What are people like Barney Rachabane, Robbie Jansen and Basil Coetzee doing nowadays? Are they also inactive? MG

Yes, it is. I've been trying to find a complete track list for this CD but can't; neither Amazon.fr nor DG lists all tracks. The DJ Lounge session is about 42 minutes with 6 tracks. The other LP had 8 tracks. I have a bad feeling that some tracks, from one session or another, haven't been included in the CD. MG

There are some Cal Tajaders amongst them. 41870; cal tjader; mambo with tjader 41871; cal tjader; tjader 41872; cal tjader; los ritmos calientes Anyone like to say anything about these? I noted that "Tjader" was difficult to get outside Japan. MG

Don't know; I count albums not CDs/LPs/K7s. I've got 2356 albums on CD but some CDs have 2 albums on them and some albums have more than 1 CD. The lower shelves had cassettes on them, not CDs. We deliberately bought a house with 1 more bedroom than we needed MG

Can you store the back insert from the cd case in the plastic sleeves? Do the sleeves protect the disc well? I might be tempted to go this route too. It's not like the jewel cases are attractive - they remind me of cassette tape cases. I've got plenty of cassettes, too. The thing about jewel boxes and K7 cases is that, when your eyesight starts going a bit, you can still read what's on the spines (except for RVGs, dammit). This is what I got a friend to put up for me on two walls when we moved here nearly 2 years ago. At present, I've got about 16 running feet spare. Need to think about putting another shelf on top; but I couldn't reach a second extra shelf. MG

Let's ban cars and guns alternatively for a week and see which ban results in the most chaos. I don't think prostitution is illegal. As to the numbers involved, who knows? A lot of people have used marijuana because it was forbidden. And a lot have avoided it because it was forbidden. Who knows what the difference between those numbers is? There is clearly a correlation between availability and use. And speaking generally, I am greatly in favour of a very restrictive gun control regime. And also of a very restrictive gun manufacture regime, which doesn't exist anywhere in the world. I just don't see it as being relevant to this particular type of thing. I think these incidents are very rare. One of the reasons I think they're rare is because I think most of the people who could turn out to be mass murderers are picked up by society and treated in some way. It is possible to argue that those who manage to conceal their state of mind may well be more cunning and resourceful than the others. Whether that's so, I don't know. What I DO know is that the justification for strict gun control (and manufacturing) regimes cannot rest on cases like this. It has to rest on cases of normal rational behaviour of people like criminals and terrorists. To my mind, that justification is clear and unanswerable. MG
