  1. This is evidently the straw that broke the camel's back. You may be able get away with acting like an arsehole for quite a while, but eventually you're going to get reamed. MG
  2. That sounds like an interesting job. MG
  3. The Mosaic set didn't contain any of the Sermon and House Party material, just the other LPs from your list. It was a three disc set and the "Sounds of J.S." RVG includes all the tracks that weren't part of the "Date" and "At The Organ" LPs. Oh, was it a Select, then? I think I'd have bought it if it was a Select... MG
  4. What's in the Mosaic set? I think it's: A date with 1 & 2 Sounds of At the organ (1551/2) 1 & 2 Sermon House party other stuff from those sessions, some of which may be on RVGs. Is that it? So there's "At the organ" which could be RVGed. My copies are 2005 TOCJs, not JRVGs. I assume the set hasn't been RVGed anywhere. This really gives three candidates, which migh take three years: your trio suggestion; date; at the organ. Sod's law, because I want it, and haven't got it, date will be last. Alternatively, sod's law, because I'm going to buy TOCJs because I don't want to wait, it'll be first. MG
  5. James Brown - I got the feelin' James Brown - Ain't it funky James Brown - Sho' is funky down here MG
  6. as a trio. But it's Garland, Watkins & Wright who back up Hawk on Swingville 2001 MG
  7. I sold my Billy Larkin & the Delegates LPs when I was on the dole in 1970. I finally decided that no one is going to reissue them on CD, so I picked up "Ain't that a groove" from Da Barstids and it turned up this morning! Oh yes, it IS a groove! No image of this anywhere on the web, it seems, so I've scanned in the sleeve. MG
  8. My newie World Pacific orig Mono - a bit scratched but plays OK. Cover's a bit written on and split. Really glad to have this one again! Wish I'd had this when I was doing my BFT! MG
  9. And don't forget Charles Kynard's "Reelin' with the feelin'". I think Jim Horn and Larry Knechtelwere the first of the Wrecking Crew whose names I knew - they were actually given credits on early Duane Eddy albums. And it was Horn who played what I still remember as being a great tenor solo on his version of "Peter Gunn". MG
  10. The first Soul Jazz albums I ever bought were Dakota's "Late late show" and "More than the most". I missed her Groove Merchants. I REALLY want "Madame Foo Foo", with Groove Holmes. She was still singing pretty well on her last album, "A packet of love letters". RIP MG
  11. Interesting - thanks Guy. MG
  12. I've been getting into Red in the last year or so - GREATLY regret not having done so before. I've got 3 trio albums: Groovy Red in Bluesville Manteca (+Ray Barretto) and two with reasonably well-regarded sax players Moodsville vol 1 (with Jaws) Swingville 2001 (with Hawk) (Interesting that Red was chosen to underpin the first releases on the MV and SV labels.) I love all of them I've got so far. More this year, I'm sure. MG
  13. Sonny Stitt Roost sessions discs 2 & 3 MG
  14. Chan Canasta Willie Bridges Donald Rumsfeld
  15. Not unless you're a woman, apparently. Hi Scott - where've you been? MG
  16. Smoke Mintons Small's Paradise
  17. Is Museart recorded with Eddie Deihl and Big John on board as well. Diehl is on, so is Dixon. But basically, it's a completely different type of band. And a completely differet type of music. Jane Getz (p) Jay Carter (g) Diehl (g) Bill Salter (b) Vic Davis (b) Cal Lampley plays unspecified instrument on one track Dixon Popito Allende (cga) Freddie Briggs, Gilbert Braithwaite, Chico Torres (perc) Angel Allende (bongo, tamb) Female voc grp. Not all these are on all tracks. A lot of the music is quite "out". But beautiful. MG
  18. Thanks very much, ZA. MG Fuckin' E fuckin' Bay! Can't pay through Paypal because it makes me put in a credit card number, then says I can't have that one, because it's already registered. Bastards! I tried to buy it at Newbury direct, but they say they haven't got it! Bollocks! MG
  19. Bubbles Sir John Everett Millais Jean-Francois Millet
  20. He made two wonderful albums with Junior Mance for Chiaroscuro, covering the music of Duke & Monk. Very nice sound. MG
  21. I think Vonnegut was my introduction to SF. A good place to start, I think. RIP. MG
