Oh, Malcolm!
-
For me, Harold Land just cooks on the folk tale sessions.
-
The Mosaic discography states: Tape transfers, remix on sessions M-O and mastering: Malcolm Addey. Does this mean that somebody else did the other sessions, not including the M-O sessions? Was Addey involved in all the sesssions and I'm interpreting the discography incorrectly?

You make a good point, yes. The last Mosaic set I was disappointed with was the Bix/Tram box. I appreciated the Bix/Tram box and I enjoyed the history but I didn't 'get' the music at first. As always happens, as time progressed, I came to really appreciate and enjoy the Bix/Tram box. It seems like I've read some negative opinions of the Kenton Presents box. Somebody at AAJ wrote that the Kenton Presents box is reminiscent of Shank/Cooper Mosaic Select. If this is true, I would enjoy the Kenton Presents Mosaic. Some may have been disappointed with the Kenton Presents because it's too West Coast, maybe? I was going to order the Kenton box along with the Teddy Wilson box.

I'm considering purchasing the Kenton Presents Mosaic box. Opinions? Comments? Kenton Presents Mosaic

Your wife likes Ella Fitzgerald, it sounds like to me.

Okay. Allright. Okay. Okay. I'm okay. Okie dokie. Doing just fine... Okay. Okay. Okay! Just... stop it. Okay? Yeah, yeah, whatever. It seems like I posted, elsewhere on this board, that I was NOT interested in purchasing the Teddy Wilson Mosaic. Errr... well, right now, tonight, I am considering purchasing the Teddy Wilson box. Yes, I'm thinking about it. So... besides the Malcolm Addey remaster, and the limited edition status, and the Mosaic name on the box... ahhhhhem... what else makes this set worth buying? Anything? Anything? I need a little help here. Just a little nudge. And this beauty is all mine. ALL MINE! Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Keep away. It's MINE! The Teddy Wilson won't go OOP till I get MY copy. Mine! Or, maybe I won't buy it. It's not like I 'need' it. Do I? Wait... I can make some space on my shelf right now... yeah, that's it... just in case I do decide to make my purchase of the Teddy Wilson Mosaic box. I'm ready. Yeah. Ready. Ready Freddy.

I wonder how many of these titles Border's will have on the shelves by the close of business on 6/29/04? Uhhh... none? (and not because the CDs sold so fast, rather, because it takes the Border's staff till the evening of Wednesday or Thursday to get the new titles available to the public, if the new titles are available at all) Maybe I should simply order from CD Universe and save the Border's hassle?

Next on the list is the Hank Mobley, Kenton Presents, and the Hot Record Society. I was not going to buy the Kenton Presents or have any interest in it. Then I read a thread at AAJ where a couple of people had given it rave reviews. If you like West Coast jazz, they'd written. Of course, I like both East Coast and West Coast jazz. So, I have to get the goddamned Kenton box.

To my ears, the 'folk music' is quite good. Yeah, each song starts and ends with the familiar folk song melody (which is well-played in its own right). In between the beginning and the ending of each tune, however, is good old jazz, played in a grand style. I have no problems with the music. It makes the old folk tunes sound the way they should have always sounded. Carmell takes the folk out of the folk, and replaces it with some swing and funk like that form of music ain't never seen. Unless you've already got it... the order-of-release date tells me to go with the JJ Johnson Mosaic. Or, the EXPENSIVE Capitol Jazz Mosaic box.

For me, there are three points of enjoyment of a Mosaic box. One: The anticipation of the Mosaic box. Scanning the Mosaic web site, deciding which Mosaic box to purchase, making the purchase, tracking the delivery of the Mosaic box via the DHL web site, opening the box upon arrival. Two: The music. The music is the most important reason to purchase a Mosaic box. The music speaks for itself. Three: The collectablility of the Mosaic box. Yes, reading the liner notes and looking at the pictures. Checking the number in the manual versus the number on the Mosaic sales receipt. Looking at the big picture on the Mosaic box cover. Storing the receipt under the plastic tray within the Mosaic box. Posting about the music, the box contents, and the set number on a favorite jazz discussion board.

Lookout! I know what you're saying. And, I agree to a point. There are many more posts that don't give thanks than those that do. But, some of us are trying to remember to be considerate and appreciative while using the AAJ site. wesbed gives a form of 'thanks' to AAJ Brad gives a form of 'thanks' to AAJ 7/4 gives a form of 'thanks' to AAJ JSngry gives a form of 'thanks' to AAJ In addition to some well-meaning threads I started at AAJ about the Django Mosaic, the Elvin Jones Mosaic, and my Saturday Morning Breakfast. It should not be Organissimo versus AAJ. Rather, Organissimo and AAJ versus the world. There aren't many 'good' jazz discussion boards that I can find on the internet. Three or four? Maybe five or six at the most? We need 'all' the jazz boards to do well.

Here's my point: Is it Friday yet? I'm tired of the office/work thing. I'm ready to go home and relax on my own private property.
-
I'll accept this as being excellent advice. My first board of choice is Organissimo. However, I don't want to burn bridges or create badwill at AAJ. What would be the point?

Especially when considering how much of Blue Note's product this forum has sold. Anyway, it should be fun to see what happens in the AAJ thread.

Yeah. Dogshit is probably sterile and not harmful. I mean, if it didn't hurt the dog...

I'm listening to the 'funeral music' through headphones as I type this text. This music makes me not want to die. At times, during the funeral music, voices can be heard... people speaking. I heard the voices through my headphones and got a funny feeling there was somebody else in my house besides me (at 12:30AM). I had kind of a panicked feelng till I realized that the voices were coming from the Mosaic CD.

Here are a couple of Shemales that work in the same place as I work. You may wish to look, then look away quickly. These guys aren't fooling anybody. Are they? When I look at them... I'm sure of what I see. And, it ain't female. Let me introduce you to Joan on the left and Staci on the right. What I want to know... if I choose to dress like a woman when I go to work tomorrow, will I be allowed to use the women's restroom like these dudes do?

Hey, c'mon man. You must admit to what you purchased from Mosaic and submit the results, the complete results, in this thread. Don't you know nothin'?
-
I bought it. Yes, it's good. Standard Art Blakey. It's difficult to go wrong with Blakey.

Alternate title for Clinton memoirs?
wesbed replied to bertrand's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I'd name it after one of Soulstation1's previous comments: You Got's My Money Jungle, Punk! by William Jefferson 'Duke' Clinton -
I decided to go ahead and purchase the Tony Scott title. There is a song on the CD entitled Homage To Lord Krishna. Somehow, I got the song title confused with the album title. The album title is, simply, Tony Scott. Sometimes, I make purchases that I 'know' will be good and they turn out to be only so-so. Sometimes, I make 'chance' purchases to see what I get. The Tony Scott CD was one of my 'chance' purchases that has left me very happily surprised. I've never heard of Tony Scott. Yet, Mr. Scott is one of the most innovative and stylistic clarinetists I've ever heard. I'm familiar with the clarinet being played mostly in the New Orleans or Hot Jazz style. Art Pepper played the clarinet on Plus Eleven. Jimmy Giuffre has played the clarinet here and there. From my listening experience, the clarinet has been, mostly, forgotten. Tony Scott brings the clarinet back to the world. His style is nothing like the clarinet of old. His sound is modern and very inventive. Tony Scott is one of the better reissues I've heard in recent weeks. I was concerned about the use of a sitar, yet the sitar works well on this title too.

I visited my local Border's today and found four more titles from this series that I didn't already have. Johnny Griffin - Johnny Griffin Yusef Lateef - The Golden Flute James Moody - James Moody Sonny Stitt - Personal Appearance
