The pictures make me wonder how big the piece of paper was that was used? A regulare piece of letter paper? A large piece of construction paper? Just wondering.

The Teddy Wilson Mosaic is part CD and part LP. Is the limit of 7500 copies a total of BOTH the CD and the LP copies? I wonder how much of each? I received my copy of the Teddy Wilson Mosaic two days ago. My CD set is number 4649. If the number is an indication, and depending on the numbers used on the LP sets, it appears that '4649' is hardly close to the limit of '7500' after seven years on the Mosaic web site. --------------- I've listened to only the first disk (out of five). I enjoy the trio format since, for me, it can be difficult to acquire trio-only material. The CD remastering (by Master Addey) is great as usual. But, it's the playing of Master Teddy Wilson that makes this set come to life. Wilson plays ALL the old standard standards. His playing is lavish, refined, relaxed, comfortable, sublime, colorful, and warm. I wouldn't choose to listen to all five of the disks in a row (I don't believe there is any Mosaic Complete box that I'd want to listen to straight-through). However, the 75 minute duration of Disk One does not grow boring or fatiguing. Wilson just keeps moving along, standard after standard, his trio popping and bouncing, and continues to keep the listener's interest.

I took my car (a 1997 Plymouth Breeze) to a Goodyear store to get some tires. While it was at the shop, the manager showed me the brakes and suggested that I should get some new brake pads. The car did need brakes so I had the Goodyear shop do the brakes along with the new tires. Hmmm... three days later the Goodyear shop couldn't get the brake pads back in place. The Goodyear shop had to take my car to the Chrysler dealer to have the Chrysler mechanics do the brakes. The Goodyear shop lost money on my repair job. MORAL OF THE STORY: don't take your car to a Goodyear shop for anything but tires.

I'm quite impressed with Hank at the Blackhawk as well. I believe Miles would have done well to keep his ego in check and let Mobley play some more. Mobley provided a very soulful and funky counter to Miles' trumpet. In my opinion, Mobley wasn't trying stretch the music, go for broke, or rewrite the rules of jazz... Mobley was content just being Mobley. Miles wanted to stretch, strain, and take the music to a new place. Hank Mobley, conversely, stood his ground and wouldn't go there. Again, my opinion...

I had to go and look-up Don Cheadle. Yeah, he'd do a good Hank.

Morgan/Shorter and Chambers/Kelly Vee Jays
wesbed replied to DrJ's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Damn. How many days was it, from the time you placed your order with Mosaic, till you received the goods? What do you think of the sound quality of the Vee Jay sets? -
A quote from Marissa: I don't use Pay Pal anymore. It is too dangerous for you to use it. There are hackers. Send checks of money orders to Norma Morris. Make the checks out to Norma Morris and mail it to Marissa Marchant. Norma will cash it for me. She takes care of business. She is my agent of sorts. If you have a check from another country contact us first. Oh, but checks, written to someone other than Marissa (a third party?), aren't dangerous? Or, is it that Paypal and credit cards provide too much protection to the purchaser?

I received my copy of the Kenton Presents box today. I have the package opened but have not yet heard a single note of music (listening time is coming later). It seemed odd to open the shipping package and see a Mosaic box with a white cover. Then, to open the Mosaic box and there is a manual with the same white cover. I'm so accustomed to seeing the Mosaic boxes with the black & white, but more dark than light, covers. It seemed odd to see the record-album sized cover all in white. It seems very bright. I know the Kenton Presents box has been available for a few years. The liner notes say it was released in 1999. For some reason, I've always thought the Kenton Presents box wouldn't sell many copies. Yet, from a series of 5000 copies, my set is numbered 3410. If the number is an indication, the set is more than halfway to its goal of OOP status.

Maria Schneider - forget looking in your CD shop!
wesbed replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in New Releases
I've never heard of Maria Schneider. I listened to the song sample on the site. You can find it under the maria schneider radio link (near the top-right of the page). I always welcome names of 'good' jazz people who I've not yet discovered. Especially when they present music of this quality. -
I found a picture of Bob Brookmeyer dated in the year 2004. The woman is Maria Schneider (a person I've never heard of). The picture is from this website. Due to some Flash/Java controls on the website, I was not able to link directly to the picture. Still, it's interesting to see a recent picture of Brookmeyer.

How To Donate To The Organissimo Forums
wesbed replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Forums Discussion
Recently, I made a donation to the Organissimo Forums using my credit card via Paypal. I haven't used Paypal for a number of years. I had to create a new Paypal account. I verified my credit card by having Paypal place a $1.95 charge on my credit card and obtaining a code from my credit card statement. The Paypal site says I have a 'sending limit' on my credit card. When I sent the donation to Organissimo, my 'sending limit' went down by the amount of the donation. My question: Is the 'sending limit' a lifetime limit? Or, does the 'sending limit' go back up after my payment to Organissimo is funded by my credit card bank? -
I contacted DHL on Saturday (7/3/04). The girl answering the telephone was nice. She said the package had already been delivered. When I noted that my package wasn't delivered to me and the Airborne web page agreed with me, she said, "Oh, you're right, but it has been picked up from the shipper." She said she'd 'add a note' to the order to 'let them know.' However, the girl answering the telephone was nice.

It appears that DHL 2nd Day Service is 'guaranteed'.
-
The Mosaic shipment, paid for by Mosaic, but charged to me... is, according to the DHL website, a 2nd Day delivery. Being that the package was not delivered on the second day... I wonder if I could get some money returned to me since the service I paid for I didn't get? Or, would this be Mosaic's battle since Mosaic is the source of the payment to DHL?

Here I am, whining about today's missing-in-action Mosaic box. Yet, I have four un-opened, brand new, RVGs laying here, next to my computer. What's my problem? Do I desire too much?
-
It's Friday night. Something tells me that DHL won't be delivering my Mosaic box after 8:30PM. Although, the DHL website says the package should have been delivered today (7/2/04). The only detail on the DHL site says that, as of 6/30/04, the package was 'picked up by DHL.' Okay, so where is the package now? I'll have to give them a call. This will be the second time that Airborne/DHL has failed to deliver. The first time I had an issue with their delivery service, Mosaic called me and said that Airborne had reported the package 'stolen.' Yeah, stolen by Airborne Express, in my opinon. I wonder why Mosaic is so interested in using the service provided by Airborne/DHL?
-
Don't tell me things such as this. I keep checking the DHL website. It hasn't been updated since DHL received my package from Mosaic on 6/30/04. Today is 7/2/04 and... no updates from DHL. I wonder if my package has left from Stamford? Feck.
