  5. Something To Live For - George Stevens (1952) Elegantly directed, cinematography by George Barnes, who did Rebecca & Force Of Evil, excellent work from the three leads, especially Ray Milland.
  6. Raging Bull - Martin Scorsese (1980) Masterpiece. I saw this at the cinema five times when it was first released.
  7. ABC have abruptly canceled my favourite soap, no more Nashville, not even a decent farewell, just left hanging. What a bummer.
  8. Fletcher Henderson Fletcher Christian Fletch
  9. Krigen/ A War - Tobias Lindholm (2016) Afghanistan tour of duty mixed with the wife and kids back home scenes and a courtroom thing thrown in for good measure. I liked the directors two previous films, A Hijacking and The Hunt. This one didn't connect , perhaps I was in the wrong frame of mind.

  15. I grew up in Yorkshire and the generic term for carbonated soft drinks was 'pop'. No other word was used. A request for 'soda' would not have been understood, other than some vague idea about Caustic Soda or Sodium Bicarbonate. Soda Water was, of course, available but almost entirely in a syphon at a bar, used to make Whisky & Soda.
  16. Haven't touched pop for years. Have an occasional glass of Appletiser.
  17. See if BBC's The Intruders is on the list. Weird and dark paranormal thriller that I found completely gripping.
  18. The only ones that come to mind are Kavanagh QC and Silk but good luck getting hold of copies Law & Order UK gave a fair to middling look at the legal side of law enforcement but doesn't really fit your criteria. You mentioned House Of Cards which seems quite far from a courtroom drama so you would probably like Case Histories, if you haven't already seen it.
  19. Magnetic screen presence, she owns every scene she's in.
  20. The Good Wife Sad to see it finish. No spoilers for those who haven't seen it. They should give Lucca a spin off, like ' Better Call Saul'.
  21. Alfie Bass Fontella Bass Bobby McLure
  22. George Best John Goodman Marvelous Marvin Hagler
  23. Denny Crane Gil Heron The Flamingos
