  1. I've been watching TGW since it started and will miss it too. I'd rank it as one of the great tv serial dramas.
  2. Elmentary's strength is it's consistency. It reminds me of The Good Wife in maintaining a decent level of writing and plots. The pairing of the two leads seemed implausible at first but they have grown into the roles and I think they compliment each other quite well. Holme's eccentricities are nicely balanced by Watson's no nonsense common sense. ( Sounds like me and the missus!) I much prefer it to the Cumberbatch version.
  3. Finished off season two of Daredevil. Dark and very violent but gripping from start to finish. Better Call Saul. I'll be honest and say I'm not at all impressed with season two. Slow and frankly boring with whole reams of dull filler. I can see that they are looking for a long story arc but I think the pacing is dreadfuly ponderous. Just my opinion.
  4. I agree. That was the brain child of Mick Jagger, right ?
  5. Baseball being the national sport in Japan I plead innocent m'lud. BTW, I suppose you know that baseball was very popular in prewar Sheffield. My granddad was a Sheffield Don's fan and used to take my mum when she was a little girl.
  6. Happy Valley finale. Great stuff, Sarah Lancashire knocks it out of the ball park. Give that woman an Oscar.
  7. Bosch season 2 Very entertaining with a plotline to keep you on your toes. Jeri Ryan a great femme fatale.
  8. House Of Cards Season 4 Marathon binge over two days. Bum firmly glued to sofa, meals at the coffee table. Gripping and more-ish, splendid entertainment.
  9. A bit of vernacular that's survived more than 50 years of usage. We used to 'wag school' back in the dark ages of the late fifties.
  10. I liked The Leftovers very much. Didn't like One Child, it started quite well but quickly became predictable and very silly.
  11. Ezra Pound Baht Simpson Barney Ruble
  12. The super realistic dialogue is spot on and the level of acting as good as we'll ever see . I'd say a word of praise for Catherine's sister, her take on alcoholism is chillingly real and completely convincing. The scenes with the police shrink were also quite superb.
  13. I'm simply curious but I wondered if you found the dialect at all difficult to follow ?
  14. I would seriously recommend both Jaws and Dirty Harry (1). I'd go as far as to say I'll pay the Netflix charge if you are not 100% entertained.
  15. The beach scene from Jaws was recreated near a lake or very large pond in the woods. The kids sitting round the camp fire, guitar strummer, girl and boy make eye contact, girl flirtingly runs away pursued by the boy, culminating in the grizzly discover of an arm the next day. it was in the last episode of S3. The Dirty Harry nod comes near the end as DI Thursday aims his very large revolver at the evildoer and Morse chimes in about the number of bullets remaining in the chamber, which turns out to be a bluff. There were other film references in the previous episodes but I can't recall them at the moment. Agree that there were several far fetched elements throughout the series. Although it's a bit of a stretch, the tiger allowed some of Chief Superintendent Bright's colonial past to be introduced, tying in nicely with him being the one to unexpectedly fell the beast and heroically save the day. Previously his role has always been a bit of a killjoy stick in the mud and the plot twist served nicely to expand his character .
  16. Very glad you've got sorted out. The situation you describe sounds abominable and makes me appreciate my quiet boring life.
  17. Endeavour- All season three. Interesting film references throughout. The last episode had the Jaws beach scene and Dirty Harry how many bullets. 11.22.63 First episode which I really liked. Hope the following parts keep up the focus and forward momentum.
  18. I agree. I buy new clothes when the old ones wear out. I seem to get through a fair number of sneakers, my latest favourites are Asics Gel which are super comfy and great for walking. I wear the same things all the time, a combination of t shirts, regular shirts, jeans, shorts, sweaters and North Face down in winter. I smarten myself up a notch for work, which means wearing trousers instead of jeans. Basically I'm not interested in clothes but do like good shoes.
  19. Wolf Hall - Peter Kosminsky (2015) BBC Mini Series Excellent, I binged the whole thing in one day. Terrific cast.
  20. I thought 1864 was good and well worth watching, although I do understand the 'who does she love and which one is coming home in a coffin ? ' cliche. As mentioned Happy Valley started with a great first episode .
  21. The Mad Lads Mad Men The Mad Hatter
  22. I'll leave the definitive answer to the more informed Bev, but I'd be aghast at any other flavour than the original bottled cordial.
  23. Are you all set for Happy Valley 2, Bev ? It starts tomorrow.
