  1. OK, it's not a building -- but it's damn big enough to be "structural"...
  2. Three questions... 1) Who or what the heck was "Moacir Santos Maestro"? 2) What and where is the building on the cover of this album?? 3) What in the hell is this doing on Blue Note???
  3. Wow, here's the BACK cover of "New York is Now". Never saw that one before today (far as I can remember)...
  4. Since Sept. 11th, this has become one of my all-time favorite images of the World Trade Center.
  5. What's the discographical entry for this look like?? Tunes? Players? Recording Date?
  6. Yes, I'm thinking about filing charges... Time to consider a citizen's arrest??
  7. It might be useful for people here, on some kind of rotating basis (so it isn’t always the same people), to respond to inquiries like this (from new people) by performing the search themselves -- on behalf of the newbie, and them posting links to the top two or maybe three threads that match the requested criteria. You have to admit, Just saying "hey dummy, why not try doing a search first" is a little off-putting -- especially with a search function that has KNOWN issues (known to all of us regulars, anyway).
  8. Time to re-nominate Chuck as the chair of the Big O forums welcoming committee -- for a record 4th year in a row!
  9. Me and Andrew... Only got to hear the man perform live once, up in Iowa City about 4 or 5 years ago. Spoke with him very briefly afterwards too, where the picture above was taken.
  10. Wow, we all knew this was coming, sometime sooner or later -- but I still feel a bit of a hole in my heart. Andrew's music captured my imagination like well less than half-a-dozen other musicians ever have. I'm at work at the moment -- but I'll be spinning "Black Fire", "Passing Ships", Disc #3 of the Hill BN Select (the crazy one with Woody Shaw and Sam Rivers), and "Timelines" tonight and tomorrow. Something to be thankful for, though, is the full and productive life Andrew lead. He certainly followed his own muse. God bless Andrew Hill.
  11. Movie soundtrack, with a jazz line-up.
  12. I'm an architecture buff, particularly urban architecture of the 20th century --- and I almost always have a special dual interest in jazz album covers that have buildings, street-scenes, cityscapes, or other "structural elements" featured on them. Post any and all you know of here in this thread!!! Lots of obvious choices which I'm sure will be posted in due time, so I'll start with a couple I wasn't familiar with, that I just stumbled on while looking at The Bastards' website... Note: Covers certainly don't have to exclusively be of jazz albums -- though I think jazz albums are often among the best at incorporating visual elements related to buildings, architecture, and the like.
  13. Listening to the archived version now, thanks!! Getting the Hutch Select is on my short-list, especially since Woody Shaw is on one of those dates.
  14. Same thing has happened to me a time or two. Call and have 'em come out. And it should be at no cost to you, because they need to fix the quality of their product as it comes into your house.
  15. Any DVD bonus material?? A secondary audio track with commentary from the director?? A "making of" documentary?? Modern reflection/commentary on Superfly's cultural impact?? Discussion of the soundtrack?? Anything?? I've got a VHS copy of a VHS original I rented probably 15 years ago, but would probably rent the DVD if there was any bonus stuff.
