  1. LOTS MORE COWBELL TO BE HAD HERE!!!!! -- Enjoy!!!!!
  2. Those in about the "State Farm" theme, click on the link I provided above, and play the sample of track #5 ... "A Very Strange Medley (V.S.M.)"
  3. But it certainly isn't a pile of Wynton!!
  4. Careful with the way polls work on this board. You can only vote for ONE choice. Better to have a new thread where people vote for their top THREE choices in each of the two categories: 1) tunes the band already knows, and 2) tunes the band's gotta learn. FWIW, some boards do have "multiple votes per person per poll" options, where you can check all the choices you want to vote for, and then vote for them all at one time. I think AAJ's board's softward does this. (But not so, here.) In any case, I strongly think that doing these "tune" polls with the "choose only one tune" option is NOT the way to go with this. Just my perspective, for what it's worth...
  5. I definitely hear what your saying, Jim. I react the same way to lots of NY tenor players of a certain age (probably in their 30's and 40's now) who, for lack of a better way of describing it, all seem to have a real 'sameness' about them - which does nearly nothing for me. It's not anything I've ever really been able to pinpoint, because on some levels - clearly they're good players. And yet, I connect with their playing almost zilch, nada, nunka, zippo. Thanks for helping explain why (in part) that is for me. Man, the if we could bottle all the collective insite contained on this board... Well, at least we'd have it all in a bottle!!!
  6. Whew... I was afraid it was going to end up being Jackie McLean!!!!
  7. I'm down for several of these. Hope they do an Andrew Hill cover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. This may be sacrilege, but PLEASE don't do "Laura." Not because I don't think you guys can do it, but just because it's already been done to death. Not speaking about "Laura" specifically, but there could be some other suggestions that are like this too. Let's get some really INTERESTING material on this disc -- stuff that there aren't a dozen versions of already. (I can't place "Laura" specifically, but I understand what Big Al is saying...)
  9. I'm afraid to ask, but here goes anyway... Which Jackie?? - and which Roy??
  10. Go HERE and click on "A Very Strange Medley (V.S.M.)" (track 5). Doesn't include what Jim's talking about, but it does happen to include another well known theme (at least to those of us here in the U.S.).
  11. No shit!! Actually, I probably will buy get a few extras -- you know, for people I haven't met yet, who have similar passions about music.
  12. If so, I'd be more than happy to pay a few extra dollars for this puppy, in order for you guys to stay on the right side of the law on this one. And while I'm at it, B3 - I know you said something like $5-$7 for this, but I'd easily go $10 or $12 for it, and I'm sure most people here would too. You guys are gonna have to spend time learning new tunes, and that's worth something. Hell, make it an hour-long disc (or more!!!) and suggest a donation in the $10 to $20 range, and I'll bet most of us pony up $20. Especially if you're gonna be recording tunes that we're suggesting.
  13. Yeah, and raise him up a crop of Dental Floss.
  14. Absolutely agree, DrJ. The STANDARDS album is a great example of this, and also his version of "Stormy Weather" from the U.S. Conn of "Sonic Boom" (originally on the 1969 session on the double LP "The Procrastinator) is totally wonderful. Lee could play this kind of stuff in both a hip and accessable way. My wife is not much of a fan of jazz with any kind of horns in it (she does like piano trios, however). But she has always kinda liked the Lee Morgan STANDARDS album, and her ears perk up (in a good way) at that version of "Stormy Weather" too. He really could do it all.
  15. Uh, Joe... If you didn't already notice, I think that damn cat has invaded your Avatar. Man, he's everywhere!!!!!
  16. I sent a PM as well, and it may or may not be what you were looking for. Either way, let me know. -- RT
  17. And the even weirder thing is, that there are dozens and dozens of sites with recipes for "Kitty Litter Cake" (many the same recipe as I posted above, some different). Here's a Google search for you: CLICK HERE And if you do a Google image search for "Kitty Litter Cake" - you get a ton of hits too... CLICK HERE too Note the bird heads It's a sick world out there...
  18. Link: Midnite's Glow-In-The-Dark Atomic Kitty Litter
  19. Link: Kitty Litter Cake (Link goes to another post here on the Organissimo board. If you must, please reply to this horribly grotesque idea there (in that thread), if you please. Thanks!!!)
  20. Link: Kitty Litter Cake I shit you not!!!!
  21. My next suggestion (maybe seriously), could be a tune off Larry Young's "Mother Ship". Just hafta listen to it again, and see if any of them stand out as reasonable for an organ trio with guitar, since the original had two horns and no guitar.
  22. Damn, I was just gonna look for a picture of her, but you beat me to it!!!!
  23. I'll second that! I had never thought of that song this way. That would be GREAT! YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please do consider doing this, or at least something like this. I think this disc definitely needs one organ-trio take on a modern pop tune of some sort, and "How Soon Is Now" would be FANTASTIC!!!!! Anyone else think so???? Here's a link to a Smith's greatest hits album, with a sample of the tune (look for track #6 - "How Soon Is Now"): CLICK HERE
