  1. In terms of previously unreleased material that really matters, I have to give the new Jack Johnson box some REALLY high marks. I'm totally diggin' it, and I think I like it every bit as much as my other two favorite Miles boxes: "1965-68" and "Miles & Gil". The sad thing, however, is that this is probably the last major release of any previously-unreleased studio material from Miles. I don't think Columbia is planning any kind of box for the studio material after the Jack Johnson box. I know I've read this a couple times before, even from some fairly good sources. The "Seven Steps To Berlin" box will be OK, but I'm sure it can't possibly haven anything even 1/4 as interesting as most of the Jack Johnson set (at least for me, anyway).
  2. Assuming I'm not out any $$$, I'm already over it. Just wanted to vent a bit, a few hours ago. I'm mostly "all better now".
  3. Just got the car towed (without any hassle), and if the part from last week is the problem - then no harm, no foul.
  4. Yeah, me too - but everything's been slow for me for the last day or so (not just this board). And I'm on cable/broadband too. Well, not always slow. But often slow.
  5. Thanks guys, appreciate the kind words. Just taking a minute to chow down some dinner, waiting for the phone to ring any minute now. My wife and I play in a church hand-bell choir together. By now she's wondering where the hell I am, and will probably call on her cellphone the minute the rehearsal is over. (She's a bit of a worrier, though I'm sure I'd be worried about her too, if the roles were reversed.) Couple silver linings, maybe. First, I can get a free tow from my insurance company, so that's good. And I'm about 95% sure that the problem is realted to the problem with the car last week, and it could even be a defective ignition switch they replaced last week. Their parts are guarenteed for 90 days, so I could come out of this with lots of headache, but no actual out-of-pocket expense - knock on wood!!!! FYI, I'll probably be scarce from the board until Monday or so. My wife has relatives coming into town tomorrow night, and her cousin is staying with us. (So I probably won't have much on-line time between now and Monday.) ( But Dan, I will try to get to that thing tonight, or sometime tomorrow - if at all possible. Actually, if I'm without a car tomorrow, that might mean a better chance I can get to it then - if I can't go anywhere. )
  6. Thanks AB. By the way, I copped the title of this thread from this wonderful childrens book...
  7. Terribly sorry. I meant to say 're-deinstalled', instead of 'de-reinstalled'. I'll try to do better next time, I swear.
  8. Cripes. I waste 3/4's of the day trying to get my PC working - after it locks up everytime I start Word. (I did finally get it fixed, though lord only knows what was wrong in the first place. I installed, deinstalled, reinstalled, de-reinstalled, and re-reinstalled just about every Microsoft product on my machine -- before I finally got it working). And then I walk out to my car, five minutes before I'm suppose to be at a rehearsal that's a 10-minute drive away -- and my car is dead as a doornail. Some kind of electrical problem, probably related to the ignition switch I had to have replaced about a week ago. That time (last week), when I started the car - it would start just fine, but then everything would go dead (electrically) when I let go of the ignition key (letting it spring back into the regular position for driving). Now when I start it, there's nothing - nothing at all. I appear to have full power everything inside the car, and the headlights are bright. But I turn the key, and get absolutely nothing. Dead silence. No cranking of any sort... Well, except for me -- you certianly could call me cranky, after the day I've had. Dan, I know I owe you a PM with some info you're looking for, but I can't swear I'll get to it tonight, but I'll sure as hell try. If I'm without a car tomorrow, then I need to get some shit done tonight (with my wife's car), before she goes to work in it tomorrow. Crap...
  9. and a few more, same source...
  10. These aren't album covers, but promotional band photos. (Or maybe they're from album covers, hell if I know.) Anyway, I had to post 'em somethere, and this is as good a place as any...
  11. Or maybe this... SOURCE Drunken moose alert in southern Norway Experts are not sure how it will affect moose behavior, but if you meet Norway's 'King of the Forest' in the southern part of the country, he could be intoxicated - and potentially dangerous. The 'King of the Forest' - too big not to respect. PHOTO: Gorm Kallestad According to a report from the Newspapers' News Bureau (ANB), the reason behind the warning is this year's early snowfall. A warm summer has led to an unusual bounty from the region's fruit trees. The sudden and early snowfall has left some fruit under snowy cover, while still more remains on the branch. This fruit is fermenting, and also a readily available and tempting source of food for the region's moose. "This is the first time I have heard that moose are getting drunk. But I assume that they react the same way people do to intoxication - some become harmless while others are the exact opposite," said district veterinarian Paul Stamberg in Kristiansand. Martin Kolberg, head of the local animal committee in Telemark, warns people to beware of drunken moose. "Be careful when you approach moose that have been munching apples for days. Their behavior can alter and they can become frighteningly aggressive. Clap and see how it reacts. If it doesn't retreat but instead comes even closer, by all means stay vigilant. It can be intoxicated and attack," Kolberg told newspaper Faedrelandsvennen.
  12. SOURCE Flying moose lands on car's roof A leisurely Sunday drive came to an abrupt halt for a couple in southern Norway over the weekend, when a fully grown moose suddenly landed on the roof of their car. "We didn't even have time to think when there came this enormous thud," said a shaken Leo Henriksen after the bizarre incident. He and his wife were cruising along the two-lane Highway 405 in their little red Mazda. The couple was a few kilometers south of Vatnestrom in Iveland township, Aust-Agder, when their involuntary encounter with the moose took place. The moose, a female weighing some 350 kilos (770 pounds), apparently had been running through the forest when she suddenly came upon a cliff leading down to the highway. Unable to stop, the moose seemed to literally fly off the cliff, landing first on the Henriksen's car before catapulting further into the oncoming lane. The moose-versus-motorist drama ended when Randi Olsen, driving in the oncoming lane with her young daughter, was unable to stop and hit the moose that was now lying in the road. The moose was dead when wildlife authorities arrived on the scene. Henriksen suffered minor hand injuries, while his wife and the Olsens emerged from the incident without a scratch. Both cars, however, were severely damaged. Henriksen told the Kristiansand newspaper Faedrelandsvennen that he and his wife lost their house in a fire in mid-January. Now they've lost their car as well, and were hoping for a sympathetic meeting with their insurance agent on Monday.
  13. Any guess as to what the costs might be?? Even just ballpark figures would be helpful. Maybe assume that somewhere around 5 of us would be interested in that particular cover (5 at most seems reasonable). Or if the cost is relatively inexpensive, maybe 10 people??
  14. Good to hear. He bailed at the last minute on a date here in Kansas City last year (March of 2002, if I remember right). Long live Jackie!!
  15. Definitely ask this. Could end up with a couple great stories that you might otherwise have never gotten.
  16. Sounds good to me. (I'm hoping to do one sometime after the first of the year.)
  17. I don't have any solid date (I'm only 34), but I understand it was a 'single' (on a 45-rpm record), and was relatively common on some jukeboxes, at least in certain places frequented by certain demographics. (Or so I know I've read somewhere, ages ago.) Was there a b-side?? What was it?? Another Lee Morgan tune?? Or something else popular, by another BN artist??
  18. Recently a friend of mine (who is an audio nut) was showing me his SACD player (which I think he's had for at least a year, maybe longer). And we go to play some discs on it - and it turns out the damn thing can't fast-forward CD's. Not SACD's, nor standard "plain jane" CD's either. You can skip forward and backward to the beginnings of tracks, but not FF into a track, or the reverse of that - to relisten to a section of a track again. I can't remember what brand it was, but it was a widespread brand name (like Sony, or Techiques) or something similar. Somebody tell me that all SACD players aren't like that??? Maybe he was an "early adopter" of the technology, and the first generation players couldn't do that -- though for the life of me, I can't imagine why. Seems like the simplist thing ever, since CD players have been doing FF quite well for something like 20 years. On a side note - I played him a bootleg recording (a burn of something I got from somebody here on the board), of a jazz concert from the early 80's, clearly taken off the sound board. And this was a burn of something that (to the best of my knowledge) hasn't ever even been 'released' on a bootleg label, or grey-market release anywhere. Now this guy is a HUGE nut for getting everything he can in what he thinks is THE very best version of every release, be it SACD, or DSD(?), or Japanese imports, or whatever the latest flavor of the month is. So I'm playing him this burn of an underground recording from the early 80's (on his mega-system), and the guy's jaw nearly hits the floor - cuz the Sound Quality on my underground recording is amazing, totally amazing. You could release this puppy today, "as is", without any remastering. People who are more about the "sound quality" - and less about the music --- really bug me, clearly. (Sorry to be on a bit of a rant, but this seemed like as good a thread as any to mention this in.)
  19. Chuck, tell some of these horrific stories. I know I would like to know. Me too. Change the names to protect the guilty, if you must, but do tell.
  20. Can B3 or Use please close this thread?? Can I get a motion from the floor?? Do I hear a second?? All in favor... Aye!!
