  1. Red Garland Paul Chambers Miles Davis
  2. An enduring classic I reread every few years and never fail to fall in love with all over again.
  3. I'd be all over a BOB/Pacific treatment of the war on the Eastern Front. Problem is it doesn't involve the American army or even the Brits. I'm afraid that might make it a ptetty tough sell to HBO or an HBO-like underwriter. But exactly! Man what an incredible spectacle it would be. If I were a billionaire looking to squander some cash, that's what I would do. Hire the best guys'n'gals in the business and give them carte blanche to wetf they want. "Go crazy kids!" I'd tell 'em. "Now's that chance you've been waiting for. You could probably use Guy Sajer's The Forgotten Soldier as foundation material. Actually, wait a minute, stop the presses! I just wiki-ed The Forgotten Soldier, and apparently "Dutch film director Paul Verhoeven has discussed with Sajer the possibility of turning The Forgotten Soldier into a film." Now I happened to think that Starship Troopers was - amongst other things - a great war film (stop laughing in the back there!), and featured great visual flourish. I think Verhoeven might make something interesting of the material. Here's hoping he gets the backing - although as you point out - there is precisely zero sympathy for the poor Landser and precious little interest or empathy for the heroic Ivans amongst audiences in the West.

  9. An ECM?!? Please turn in your Organissimo Forum membership card immediately! Yikes! (Backing slowly away...) Thanks for the warning mate!

  11. Jimi was cool like a fox baby! John Leonard Leonard Bernstein The Bernstein Bears
  12. Sorry, was this deliberate or a typo? I thought that only Clinton would've provided suitable subject matter for a song on that theme.
  13. Great idea for a thread! Here's mine (a cassette copy from the vinyl which my uncle made for me) Just about played this one to death. Still love it dearly.
  14. Miles Davis Betty Davis Jimmy Hendrix
  15. Merzbow - "Noritsukehousei" (from Japanese Birds, No. 2) Incredible stuff - he's featuring live drums a lot more lately, and a lot of guitar-ish feedback. This is the heaviest track off an excellent album. The whole series is fantastic and stands as one of the best things he's ever done IMHO.
  16. Bob Koester would be a more entertaining and informative companion than Mr. Nessa. Such modesty sir! I am impressed. Me, for the after dinner hootenanny I'd have the following dudes in their prime 'wild boy' days (and BYOBaggy of course!) - Mike Stern, Joe Zawinul, Jaco Pastorious and Bonnie Rait representing the distaff side.
  17. Pee Wee Hermann Herman Hesse Rudolph Hess Wee Dot Andrea Dotti Mad Max Ack! Emperor Maximian Marcus Aurelius Marcus Miller
  18. I've heard about this one, and am looking forward to checking it out. AMC are reaching HBO levels of consistently lately. I thought that James Badge Dale was great in The Pacific. (And, on a side note, I think it would be super awesome if someone were to do a BOB/Pacific style treatment of the War on the Eastern Front. Wolfgang Petersen showed how it could be done with Stalingrad, but alas I don't think the budget - or the sympathy - would be available to do it in the style which it would deserve.)
  19. I tell you what wakes me up at night with the cold chills - imagining what he sounds like when he's getting it on! Now I have THAT to worry about! Welcome to the horrorshow pal! Ever see that great episode of the Larry Sanders show where John Stewart gets the Wu-Tang Clan on... and Hank approaches them! Cue some of the most awkward, cringe inducing tv prior to The Office!
  20. There's a CD titled 'Leaf Palm Hand' of them that is not very expensive and it's also very good. I think Jazzloft and the usual suspects have it. Amazon has it for $12.43: http://www.amazon.com/Leaf-Palm-Cecil-Taylor-Oxley/dp/B00119UA9A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1304530249&sr=8-2 Hey I love this album! One of my favourites from the towering Berlin set. Cecil and Tony really have a rapport, which arguably came to full fruition in the Feel Trio. Extraordinary, stellar music! Btw, I listened to Fly! x5 recently and it's a beautiful album, basically a series of miniatures compared to the usual titanic extravaganzas. A bit like a full album of those 'postcripts' he uses to wind down.
  21. Shit this is a toughie! What do you do, put together a graph over your life and chalk up the listens? Nah, ain't gonna go that route. My listening patterns is cyclical, but here's the guys that keep returning onto my player over the decades (Jazz only I'm assuming it must be in this thread): Anthony Braxton Miles Davis Derek Bailey Evan Parker Pat Metheny John Scofield
  22. Ralome - Plaid. Exquisite use of guitars in an electronic track Zimbabwe - Miles Davis. Still IMO one of the most intense and coherent live recordings. The intro still gives me chills 16 years on.

  24. What the hell? You're quite possibly one of the wittiest persons I've encountered on a forum. Wtf do you do to eke out a living when you aren't coming up with stuff like that? Never mind the Bolick... Johnny Rotten Sid Vicious Nancy Spungen Alvin Queen Alvin Stardust Alvin Lee Lee Harvey Oswald Harvey Keitel
  25. Believe it or not, I've almost finished! Rather strange, but very good. I can't outright recommend the series for general consumption due to length (over 1,900 pp.!). That was televised in a classic series back in the 80s by the Beeb.
