Yup, those reissue covers are foogly ... but I'm not inclined to buy these again just because of covers (if that, it would need to be LPs I guess)
-
well, here's a review of a 2015 gig:
my understanding is that the "La Fenice" release was put forth instead of a new solo recording that was planned to be made from one of the cancelled concerts, but don't ask me where I got that from ...
-
available for little money straight from Enja as well:
.. which also goes for "Taro's Mood", which was expanded to two discs:
(though the second is fairly short indeed)

Thanks!

What - or rather: which ones - are "the four Deep Reality Hino discs"?
I have three of the Takt by now, the other four are on order from CD Japan, will be a while (I think they're not even shipped yet, and shipping takes 3-6 weeks usually, going with the cheap option).

No one needs counts (except for guillotines )
Not sure I have any earlier releases on Acrobat at home

Ok, found one more - CD-R as well, Herts. address there:

this is the Tubby Hayes in question:

not sure there's any address, the inlay can be seen there (just a website there)

yeah, that one. i relly enjoyed it!
Okay, got to revisit it ... wasn't that enthralled upon first listen I'm afraid (enjoyed the recent "Nightconcert" more).

Still unwilling to buy again, even more so if the Retrieval needs to stay (for the additional material) ... is sound that much better that it's worth considering so?
-
Yup, selling CD-Rs "undercover" is really a shame. And indeed I have that Tubby Hayes set as well (not sure there was a second one after that). Their booklets also are good-quality home-made prints, the paper is not what you usually get.
I stopped buying their product.
Not sure if this is different with R&B reissues the do, but I guess numbers of sold units and storage costs just don't add up.

Not available yet in yurp it seems ... I'm interested!

I hope I'll get it for x-mas

Got some shareable info about Uptown:
Label still active, but not as active as before. Son plans more releases of the projects Bob had in the pipeline when he died but time between releases will be longer.
Thanks! Hoping for the best!

I think the best outcome of this reissue was the unreleased studio session that came after it. That was more or less splendid. I wonder will there be some more?
"Ready Take One" was compiled from several sessions, do you mean that one?

No one can say for sure if he read the book but I’d be surprised if a Times reviewer hadn’t read the book he or she is reviewing.
Possibly he has read it ... my point was just that it doesn't show in what I find a pretty bad review.

Thanks - I was bit confused by all the posts and Dan's kinda "in the know" announcement ... will be waiting for the new release to hit the usual suspects then

I'm not sure. All I know is that it will be distributed by the same US distributor as previous releases. I don't know anything about International outlets.
Okay, so you are just distributing/selling, not part of the Uptown outfit?
-
I'm a bit confused ... is this an edition of 20 or will this eventually also be available through the usual outlets (such as jazzmessengers.com)?

Was actually hoping for a review to turn up, so thanks .... but I'm not quite sure Mr. Hajdu has actually read the book (at least I will not buy one of *his* books, that's for sure), more just flipped around in it and then written what was clear already anyway.
Anyone here has started reading and can share some first impressions?

I need to finally get around to reading both this and We Were Eight Years In Power. Did you see the interviews he did with Obama near the end of Obama’s presidency? Great conversations (the Atlantic published unedited transcripts).
Alas no.
I have "Eight Years" on the frighteningly high reading pile, too (have read some of it online though - not sure how different the book versions will be, or if at all).

Yes, and thank you! A little crowded with boxes right now but having the music to enjoy in the long term is great!
They shall bring many hours of listening pleasure over the years to come, I'm quite sure

so the funeral was bitter thus the band drank beer
or the bitter beer led to the band being funeralised
or maybe the bitter band had a beer at the funeral
possibly also the funeral was bitter about having to settle for what beer the band left behins (none, possibly?)
not quite sure, but the ECM album is indeed wonderful
2019: Blue Note's 80th Anniversary
in Re-issues

I managed to get the TOJC of "Natural Essence" recently ... overpaid a bit, but not too much - so they may do whatever they want for the 90th (a reissue of the complete Art Hodes Blue Note sessions would be nice, though, but I know that's not gonna happen) and I'm out
