  1. Another World is a worthy and unique Getz album--I'd like to have it on CD actually. Yeah, having checked a little closer, I guess I'll really buy this one! Wonder what the band with Corea, Clarke, Williams and Airto sounds like! And the bits I've heard of the LaVerne band weren't half bad, either. Next time you'll be on your own, buddy! Thanks Flurin! Btw, "intestatario", it dawned to me, has to mean something about testicles... probably because if you got a gold card you have "cojones" and visit Silvio's bunga bunga parties... just put your name there and you'll be invited!
  2. Enjoyed discs 3 and 4 of the Johnny Smith earlier today - and enjoyed it an awful lot, too! Wow!
  3. Yes, has to be the name on the card (I don't actually speak Italian, but it's easy to figure out... you merikins better learn some, might be useful in a few decades when yurp will be all islamic and you'll have to fight wars over here again )
  4. Any idea what the shipping charge is to the US? I've gone to the site, but it won't tell me until after I give them my credit card, and I don't want to do that just yet. (I'm kind of proud of myself to have gotten that far with a language I'm unfamiliar with!) Quick guidance: Aggiungi al carrello = add to cart Procedi all'acquiso = Proceed to checkout If you're already client, pick: "Sono già cliente, e la mia password è" = "I am a returning customer, and my password is" Choose the address Choose shipping method (I get "Standard" & "Express") The "regalare" thing is for gift options (check it and they'll appear later on) Enter/pick your card, hit "Continua" ("Potrai controllare tutti i dati prima di ordinare" means "You can review all your data before ordering", so it's safe to hit that!) And then you'll get the overview, including shipping costs. And with "Ordina" ("Order"), you'll send in your order.
  5. So - you went for it then ! Sound good? Yes! As I just typed in the other thread, the "The Swingers - 12 Jazz Favorites by The Four Freshmen" (arr. Bill Holman) is the one that gripped me most, but all four are nice! Now playing: Dionne Warwick - Promises, Promises (the cover of my LP looks much less stellar, but it's one of the few of these cheapos that has no seem-splits at all)
  6. A recent BBC4 Dankworth Tribute documentary had home cine film of them all getting off the TWA aircraft in NYC. The same view shown on the front of that LP. A very young Kenny Wheeler amongst them ! That Roulette LP must be the US issue of the Top Rank UK LP. Maybe someone checked out this site? The Roulette album is from London (says Bruyninckx) and doesn't include Wheeler - but it's pretty nice, it was the first of the bunch that I put on the turntable. Played all four Froshs, too - the first two (that would be in the Mosaic) are in pretty bad shape (including a couple of scratches that have the needle stuck), but the two later ones are ok, and the fourth was done by Bill Holman and is the jazziest, and from my initial reaction, the best of these four. Enjoyable music, for sure! The Roberta Flack debut is impressive, wow! Had no idea! All I had so far was the CD reissue of "Killing Me Soflty", now the album with Donny Hathaway (on CD) is on its way, too. And I'm starting to really appreciate Dionne Warwick, too! Playing "Promises, Promises", right now!
  7. Roberta Flack - First Take
  8. Thanks brownie - guess if the price is right I might go for it... have the old French CBS disc of the magnificient "The Peacocks", but everything else is new to me (except for "The Master", which I've heard but don't own). I guess I could live happily everafter without knowing most of this though...
  9. The Swingers - 12 Jazz Favorites by The Four Freshmen
  10. The Four Freshmen - Stars in Our Eyes
  11. lately: The Supremes - A' Go-Go Dionne Warwick - The Windows of the World Dave Pell Octet - The Old South Wails Jazz Omnibus Johnny Dankworth - Johnny Dankworth: England's Ambassador of Jazz The Four Freshmen - In Person right now: The Four Freshmen - Voices in Love
  12. I've never, ever bothered to check out these reviews... I try to arrive at my own opinion... anyway, this great album certainly merits a more than decent rating!
  13. OK, I went back to see what Four Freshmen were left... not as many there as I thought I'd seen, either someone went there after me on Saturday or my memory was playing tricks. Anyway, today's haul (for 20 bucks): The Four Freshmen - Voices in Love The Four Freshmen - Stars in Our Eyes The Four Freshmen - In Person The Four Freshmen - The Swingers: 12 Jazz Favorites by The Four Freshmen and: Johnny Dankworth - England's Ambassador of Jazz (Roulette R 52040) Red Rodney & Ira Sullivan - Spirit Within (Elektra Musician) as well as: Dionne Warwick - Make Way for Dionne Warwick (Scepter) Dionne Warwick - Promises, Promices (Scepter) Roberta Flack - First Take (Atlantic)
  14. Ok, sorry - didn't want to read anything into your comment! Interested parties... is that what all the honchos are? Sort of "having been there" in case something big happens? Ready to snatch up Lambert from the finger-snapping youngster?
  15. I'm not mad enoug about Brubeck to read a book... but I have enough CDs not to feel I need the 4CD compilation... Ah, well, who knows... I might get there some time!
  16. Frank Wess Wes Montgomery Montgomery Clift
  17. I'm giving it its first spin... the postman threw it into the (still sealed, we had a wrong key!) new mailbox somewhen in the last few days... found it there this evening. Warren comes through very well on the recording, the band is fine (Christophe is the only one somewhat familiar to me - he's excellent).
  18. At around 5:25 the heavier guy with slicked back hair talking to Avakian could be Brad McCuen. Thanks a lot! Of course without knowing what Avakian looked like I was assuming the finger-popping microphone-talking guy to be the producer, as he makes the impression to be in charge of things... The others then would just have been around to see who this weirdo Lambert is that they dragged in there? They would have known him from LH&Bavan's stint with RCA earlier, I assume... so what's going on there? Was the control room always so crowded? Some of them seem so obviously professionally not interested, it almost hurts.
  19. Thanks Mike! That clears two questions since I've wondered about (the) Bates(es), too!
  20. Lost my reply, will bow out of this thread now, apologies to all those who felt I'd stepped on their toes.
  21. ok, will check if the 'bones one is there... not sure from memory, but there must have been at least five or six, one or two twice.
  22. Great film! Who's the enthusiast producer? And who are the mobsters crowding the control room chewing gum?
  23. Of course, all I post is my opinion (humble or not). She's young, she can grow - of course. I've seen stuff on youtube she did with Konitz, Morgan and Woods as well as on her own - and I'm afraid to say I just don't like any of it. Either way, siding up with Konitz or Morgan as a youngster in public is maybe not the smartest idea...
