  1. Thanks! I might try that. The one you had as your avatar certainly looks tasty!
  2. EKE: on nailing the tune on #5! #1: (from a Zurich point of view: south of the border...) ubu
  3. Forgot to add: this is blasphemy! ubu B-) If this is the Ducal band, it's one of the sloppiest performances I have heard. Never heard that Eastbourne concert. Sloppy or not, it's fun and me loves! And it's not that late at all, sirs!
  4. Got them both, and dig them to death! Like em better than Ribot's! Second, Baila, Gitano, Baila was my avatar for a while. Did you find a place selling Tzadik releases at a decent prize over here? They're insanely expensive in shops here...
  5. Welcome! I start liking this band! Initially (after having heard some portions of this very same project, on the weekend of Saalfelden '04) I posted some negative comments on the sloppiness of Byron's execution and weakness of his sound, but somehow the more I listen, the more I like...
  6. Don't get me wrong - I love the playing of Jarrett with Miles, no matter if you (or rather he) calls it energy or music! I was completely stunned by the Isle of Wight set! A little epiphany, for me!
  7. Forgot to add: this is blasphemy! ubu B-)
  8. Not Swiss... This is less false than it seems, this is not a youngster, no sir! Me, I just love the clarinet here! (@Marty: not Hamilton, sorry!) Watch it, mister! Imitators!!! Good reading! And props for finally identifying the late great Elvin! I'm not sure about "Soul Eyes" and have a feeling you're mixing this guy up with someone else... However, he certainly could do a whole lot with "Soul Eyes"! One is two, two is one... brotherly stuff? Oh, I really hope Sangrey won't nail this one! This is the great mystery man... the huuuuge surprise. I won't give no hints here Nope, not the same guy, but you id-ed this brother correctly elsewhere. The guy on #2 is performing on this disc as well, btw. As I said: say thank you to Mr. Litweiler... Glad you enjoyed it, Mike! ubu
  9. It has been identified further above! More comments on your guesses coming!
  10. ... who died from lung cancer which is why brownie ended up getting a copy
  11. That's what I did, but then the three older volumes of Solal's Vogue output is not on sale from Amazon themselves, as far as I see.
  12. Thanks Marty! I guess I need to find that CD... Nice cover, too: ubu
  13. Excerpts of Byron's trio gig at Jazzfestival Saalfelden, Austria, have been broadcasted last night on France Musiques. You can re-listen for a week (till next Sunday, I assume) online > HERE < Don Byron - cl,bcl Jason Moran - p Billy Hart - d Saalfelden, Austria, August 28, 2004 Tracklist: 1. In A Silent Way 2. Abey the Fishman 3. Somebody Loves Me 4. I Found A New Baby Rec. by Austrian Radio/Broadcasted Monday 14.3.2005 (Midnight to 1 a.m.) Skip the first five or so minutes to find the start of the broadcast. It's around 40 minutes long. Enjoy! ubu
  14. brownie, the link doesn't work! What do you mean the new releases include albums from the previous series? The other three Solals are only available through Marketplace sellers, as far as I can see.
  15. May be, but it's produced to sound so very polished... I gave it a listen three or four times in stores, when it was new, but never took a liking...
  16. So these are out... anyone got them already? Is there a way to display them all on French Amazon? There is a volume 4 to Martial Solal's "Complete Vogue Recordings", too, I see. ubu
  17. Listen to online on here Or click the speaker icon next to "Sonntag, 20.02.2005, 20:00 - 21:00" if the above link doesn't work. Not too much talking, music from "Groovin' at Smalls", "The Cat", the first Verve album, "Open House/Plain Talk", "Back at the Chicken Shack"... hope I didn't forget anything (except the title of that Verve... oh, it's "Bashin'" of course!) ubu
  18. Second that. Love the first, never picked up the second. Missed the concert...
  19. Could someone post the discography of this and/or the PacJazz set(s)? I have the single CDs, but I think there was an Annie Ross date included (at least in the PacJazz set) that I never found (never even saw anywhere). ubu
  20. Yeah, he was killin' on Live/Evil - can't wait for the box set of this! I saw some live Miles in Berlin on TV with the next band with other rhythm men and Jarrett, and he was great there, too. Can't accept the funky part of his soul, eh? Probably, yes. But then he did some utterly funky stuff on his Impulse recordings, too (though strictly acoustic there, but very funky...)
