  1. Thanks, Quincy! Glad you enjoy the JiP discs! And thanks again, Jeff. I know that, but sometimes I just get a bit of a different impression. Ignoring problems is not to solve them, and chilling and relaxing, neither. This got personal for me, thus chilling is not a valuable option, anyway. It would just be nice if friends would indeed stick together, instead of telling the one who got smeared (and the guy who takes this as the point in time to start a general reflection on this and other similar incidents that do happen more often, lately, than is good) to "chill out". Sorry, but really, that is no option, not among friends. Starting to feel a bit better again. Need to get these things off my chest.
  2. That's me, btw, in case some are not aware of it. You're all welcome to bring me some love. First thing would be to stick together a bit... (thanks to John B!) Oh. Hi Flurin! I've always known you as the King. I don't think you're a bully. Your loyal subject, AB Here comes some love... Thanks Jeff! I can really need it. I'm feeling awfully cold at this moment.
  3. That ducal string is part of the theme of disc 2 I guess it's too obvious, the second part of the theme is even more obvious...
  4. That's me, btw, in case some are not aware of it. You're all welcome to bring me some love. First thing would be to stick together a bit... (thanks to John B!)
  5. Like I said you make a great deal of sense. Che. nothing much to feel sorry about... che: get real! you step in here, barely a month back, and now you're posting that you know our personalities and other nice things. And telling me I'm a blockhead after YOU went overboard with antisemite thoughts over here... You know, long before you joined this group, we have had discussions of topics related to the shoah and to World War II and to Israel and its politics. These were always conducted in a civilised and friendly manner, everybody being careful as to not offend the others and searching for words and trying to express his notions in a thoughtful manner. This seems to have come to an end. You'd be lying if you want to maintain you DID post in civilised and friendly manner, and you'd be lying if you'd want to state that you are ringing for words on these difficult topics. Just shoot ahead, others will take care of the cleaning up later, huh?
  6. Thanks Vint! Nice to see some positivity around here... this thread may be the only one I'm going to lie eyes on for a few days. No dutch guys, btw! Check Mikeweil's post above, he nailed trombone and drummer correctly!
  7. to what Dizzy said!
  8. Very good points, Dizzy! Also quite to the point And for those looking for whatever, "intellectual stimulation", they can still concentrate on Desmond, no? I mean, I absolutely love his playing, and on the outside it's beautiful, but on the inside, there's a lot more to it, I think. But then beauty itself is not a simple concept, either...
  9. I never saw albums with a corner of the spine cut off, but still. What I have is a few that have saw-cuts somewhere, these though may be in the spine, but they're usually very small, so... my Sam Rivers "Contrasts" has such a cut, 2cm deep, on the top of the cover, pretty close to the opening. Not as bad as a corner cut off.
  10. Yes, you nailed that! And as you did state it affirmative and without any signs of hesitation, I thought you were safe on that! It's correct!
  11. Can I get the Di Battista? Of course. Shoot me a PM with your address, and it will go in tomorrow's mail. -Erik Just picked your package out of today's mail, Erik! Thanks a lot! I'll drop you a PM once I came around giving it a listen (busy times...)!
  12. Thanks brownie! Let me post this (helps me memorizing it - in order to indeed pick up this here and not one of the seven Djangos I already have...): And on the boxes: they do not simply include 3 JiP discs each, but are re-composed out of material that was spread over JiP discs, do I get that correct? They are beautiful, yes, indeed! I've been tempted, but so far I was able to resist... ubu
  13. Oh no! I'm really sorry to hear this, Marcus! I'll do a copy right ahead! I hope you're the only one with this problem! actually, Marcus, I'm not familiar with Simon & Garfunkel - look at it as an extended version of 4'33"
  14. Oh no! I'm really sorry to hear this, Marcus! I'll do a copy right ahead! I hope you're the only one with this problem!
  15. Al, thanks for perfectly expressing my feelings about this one. my first reaction was to applaud the performance too!!! btw, Whisper Not is such a gorgeous tune Marcus I'm glad you guys dig that track so much! I'm already planning the bonus disc for my next bft... I'm afraid to say, on #8: you have it now, nothing more there... Marcus: glad you enjoyed some of my choices! Obviously there's some that won't appeal to everyone, but there's kind of a theme to this disc, so everything has its place (@Vint: that theme is why #16 is not coming after #11...). You're right on Frog & Helen, as you will quickly see skipping through the discussion.
  16. Thanks for your insight, ye olde guys! B-) I have some LPs with small cuts on one side of the cover, too (similar as the things they "saw" into CD cases sometimes). Never bought LPs with cut-off corners, though I could have, but I like my discs and LPs to look at least halfway good... ubu
  17. So the Django is available as a single CD now? Where? I can't find it on display here: http://www.universalmusic.fr/servlet/Front...yword=reinhardt That website is annoying. Also: on the deluxe boxes: I think you, brownie, mentioned somewhere that one of them had an unreleased album, but the rest of them contained three already released JiP discs? (Or was that the Belgium that includes a new album? And is the Belgium a deluxe box, too? Same format etc?) Should we donate to Vivendi in order to have them setting up a new website for Universal France? Or should they donate to us in order for us continuing to browse their useless website?
  18. Ubu, join the queue... http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...l=jazz+in+paris The Django 102 was part of that 'From Belgium With Love' box that had already issued CDs from the series by Thielemans, Jaspar, Thomas... It's available now as a single CD! Now you have me confused... I will post in the other thread. ubu
  19. Hey Vint, enjoyed reading your post! Funny that Chapin comes up again! I've just started finally listening to his box set ("Alive") a bit and enjoyed what I heard so far very much. But then, this is not Chapin... Not Frisell, either, btw, and not Baron Some musicians have been identified, some tracks, too, there's a short resume further above. Oh, and ubu is far too young to have any 78s...
  20. I've never heard more than the stray track of Thielemans', so this might be a nice and cheap way to something in that respect... I guess I'll end up getting them all, anyway. What about the Peterson discs? Anyone here has them? And the blues/trad ones: Memphis Slim/Willie Dixon, Bright/Simmons, Classic Jazz, Price/Cheatham, Bechet/Luter, Holland/Clayton/Singleton?
  21. And that Django, what's its title? I wasn't aware the series continues! I only saw the deluxe boxes (which cost the prize of ten single JiP discs here...), but nothing else that was new, since the Distel came out.
  22. Thanks Guy! As you know me, I'll probably want to have "Jazz sous l'occupation", too, in the end... I'm aware of the two Bey tracks, and it's them that made me pick the disc out of the shelf several times, already. The Fol seems to have some good Griffin, so I'll want it anyway. I'll give the clarinets and Bacsik a chance, too. How about the Dearie? The Goraguer? The Bolling? You certainly have those, don't you?
  23. Oh, I can't argue against that Is that were the expression "cut-out" comes from? How about the Randy Weston I mentioned above - was it ever on CD? (Maybe in Japan?)
  24. Don Redman orchestra? or maybe Horace Henderson? Nope, the tenor has been nailed (read above) and the band is too bad to bother with all that much... I think both Henderson and Redman would have done a better job (and maybe convinced the taper to let it roll after the tenor had his say...)
  25. Yes, the discography parts are the best, and often the comments are quite on the mark. I had the Monk, Mingus, Miles and Trane books back when I got into jazz, and I always enjoyed the commented discographies.
