  1. Well, thanks! Seems like one to look for! ubu
  2. Tom - I do hear no similarities at all, too! Someone took it for clarinet, even. This really indicates how different a sound these two players have. You would NEVER take Lacy's soprano for a clarinet, wouldn't you? I like both of these, by the way. And the guy in question is a rather important figure, too. ubu
  3. That was my very first thought, too! But I really have no idea who this could be. One of the highlights, in my opinion, though ubu
  4. What am I? Chopped liver? My record is still impressive: whenever I presume to post the Tanno News, I get no response and few page views. My parents would be so proud. I quit looking at Tanno and TOC news - CANNOT AFFORD TO EVEN LOOK AT THAT!! ubu

    Booker Little

I think everything has been mentioned now, but: if you LOVE the Candid album, there's some alternate takes on "Candid Dolphy". The other stuff there, I think, has been added to the respective CDs (it's all sideman-Dolphy, he did not have his own Candid date), but the tracks from the Little date were not added to "Out Front" and can only be heard on that Dolphy disc. the "And Friend" album is a great one, indeed! I still got to listen to the Museum of Modern Art and the Time albums, but from what I have heard, "And Friend" is every bit as good as "Out Front" and the stuff with Dolphy. ubu
  6. Berigan, make sure you get hold of a copy of the Avenue/Rhino reissue of "This Time the Drum's on Me" as long as that one is around. Originally on Bethlehem, it features Conte Candoli, Frank Rosolino and GREAT Dexter Gordon. Recorded in 1955. ubu
  7. FWIW my bonus disk (disk 11) was regular size. Mine, too. Deus - get it! At that price you can still add one or the other VME disc, if you feel the need. I got mine for about twice the amount you could get it, I did not get any VMEs, sound never bothered me, actually. And this one is worth every cent! ubu
  8. "Groovin With Jug" shipped yesterday! (from amazon.com) thanks for the rec! I'm sure I'll enjoy that one just as much as "After Hours". ubu
  9. me too I only have the second of them, and being a fan of this man and having some 6 or 7 of his CDs, I have to admit this one if very good! They should see CD reissue! A double time would be nice, like the Don Grolnick one. Hope we don't have to wait till he dies... ubu
  10. Hey, I just saw that post! Will keep an eye open for it, sounds interesting! ubu
  11. So there still is a Mitchell for more than every second of the 570 members posting here... Be sure to let an Atlantic New Orleans over for me. Gotta wait till end of january to be able to get that... ubu
  12. yeah, that AND leading the top ten posters list oof yet ANOTHER day. don't drink too much coffee during WORK Ubu You know John I said to myself when I got up friday morning: Now we gonna catch that couw! No, seriously: my notebook is still all shit (it's at IBM's for a week now, and was down since x-mas) - and I had little time to be on this board over x-mas, as well as days without any internet-access, and then I did finish that darn paper for university (last thursday, finally), and I got some more time again now! (And I'm gonna catch you ) And sitting here in the office doing some dumb work to earn a student's life... you gotta have SOME fun, no? And I got a day older, incidentally, too, by the way... ubu
  13. Uh, let me abuse this thread to make good for all whom I missed to congratulate in time! It be done herewith! Wish you a good day, Jim! You'll sure have a better one than me, sitting in the office for almos 8 hours now... ubu
  14. Mark, that Thad Jones is a marvellous album! Hope you like it! ubu
  15. That's one of the things I dislike about ebay - or rather: about some of the sellers there. ubu
  16. Berigan, to answer the question you ask in the title of this thread: yes, easily so! My notebook (which is just now receiving a new systemboard, SHIT!) is only protected by Norton, too, but I was lucky. Less so my parents: their desktop went down completely, they had some thirty viruses, some ten or twelve trojan horses, and Norton did not even take notice... If you install yourself a real tough firewall, though, you might be unable to even open an attached word-file... ubu
  17. I don't remember the later albums included, but if you got the quintet dates with Cook only, there's another highly enjoyable thing there: the first album, with Joe Henderson, Leo Wright, Duke Pearson... consider that one, too! And you get the nice booklet and box and all... ubu (lucky owner of said set)
  18. Gotta get it as soon as I can afford! ubu
  19. I think one of the three of them on ebay is just a one disc best off comp (Universal does this with each and every box set they release, it seems) The box looks very VERY interesting, though. Lon, I suppose you got it. Care to comment? Mention some highlights etc? ubu
  20. Me being an absolute computer dummy... but when I changed from Outlook Express to Outlook, I DID manage to take all mails and contacts with me via the export/import function. You save all your stuff, got a file somewhere with it, and then import it again. I guess this should work as well when you deinstall Outlook and reinstall it again. But, as I said, I'm no accomplished computer specialist at all. ubu
  21. Wow! I only now saw these pics, very cool! I love Golson! Thanks for posting them. ubu
  22. I'm using one of these: B&O U70. Any opinions? I don't listen with headphones all that often. Got these from my parents, who don't use them anymore. ubu
  23. I prefer the Cannonball approach: Barfoot Sunday Blues... (although it's Keepnew's title...) ubu
  24. Yeah! Let's hope they come around to reissue ALL of these concerts in best possible sound! I bet most of them were actually recorded by some radio stations, no? What's the source of those bootlegs? Radio? Claude, while it was me who alerted to the recent broadcast - I missed the beginning of it! SHIT! (And I really hate half-complete things...) ubu
  25. Good question. RVGs have tended to bring back original album contents (which the previous versions of these two albums had abandonded). The very first RVGs imitated the JRVGs in adding no (or few) extra tracks. That policy has since slipped, indeed it has gone the other way. The old logic was that the US market required the extra tracks while the Japanese market preferred pure originals. That now seems to be not the case. Seems you are right about that. Still I want ONE CD having the COMPLETE Back at the Chicken Shack/Midnight... session, even the Bonus Track could fit on that ONE CD... Yet if they are doing "historical" reissues of just the album, they could give us some historical reissues of those japanese albums, too, no? So bring it on! I got "Standards" rather recently, and LOVE it! Very mellow stuff, very laid back, sometimes it goes back to pre-Smith-organ sounds, at least in general mood. ubu
