If I recall correctly, Best wrote the song Move after an evening with Lorraine. It was not meant as a compliment.

Happy birthday, Son-of-a-Weizen!

Rick Perry wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday, but he could only remember the Happy part. Happy Birthday! -
I can see where you might be confused. She doesn't look a day over 125.

sickening penn state football allegations
Dave James replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Step away, homey. How you could draw that conclusion from what I wrote is beyond me. This isn't about Penn State football at all. It's about child abuse. Just curious. Has it occurred to you that not a single member of this board buys into what you're saying. The people who walk and talk these halls and walls are not your average run-of-the-mill knuckleheads. It's a fairly bright bunch. That by itself should make you question and/or reassess your position. -

Here's some major irony for your early Thursday morning. Paterno has Krzyzewski-like relationship with Nike and has had for years. As is being reported this morning locally, the Joe Paterno Center For Child Development is housed on the Nike campus in Beaverton, Oregon. I see there was some rioting at Penn State last night as students took to the streets to protest the firing of their football coach. Hard to believe. If any of these morons put the welfare of children ahead of their precious football team and its coach, they'd either be studying or asleep in their dorm rooms. Talk about misplaced priorities. One thing for sure. The game with Nebraska on Saturday should be pretty interesting on a number of different levels. -

Wow, what an ignominious end to a 46 year career. A small part of me feels sorry for Paterno but the much larger part feels that he brought what happened upon himself and that the university has done what needed to be done. -
Joe Frazier fights for his life
Dave James replied to B. Goren.'s topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Perhaps the finest article ever written about the third Ali Frazier fight. It was penned by Sports Illustrated beat writer Mark Kram. This, my friends, is what truly great sports writing is all about. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1005750/index.htm -

As good an argument as I've seen as to why Joe must go. It's not what he should have done, it's what he could have done. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/andy_staples/11/08/penn-state-joe-paterno-scandal/index.html?eref=sihp&sct=hp_t11_a2 -

According to the NYT, Joe Paterno will be out as coach of Penn State's football team within a matter of days. That's as it should be. Sweep the whole house clean and start from scratch. This is only the first step in the long and winding road to recovery. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/09/sports/ncaafootball/penn-state-said-to-be-planning-paternos-exit.html?_r=1&emc=na -
Good Lord. Talk about being able to hide your own Easter eggs. My post was deleted. I feel shame. Will things ever be the same between us?
-
Do not despair. There's an upside to everything. In this case, it won't be too long before you can hide your own Easter eggs.

Andy Rooney was the last link between the CBS of then and the CBS of now. Don't bother contemplating the difference. The spread between the two is galactic. RIP, Mr. Rooney. Nobody did what you did like you did.

[FA] eBay "RARE" Japanese CDs
Dave James replied to a126366184's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Some choice stuff here. Anyone who's not familiar with Duke Jordan's Les Liaisons Dangereuse should check it out. Just curious, I notice you and a number of other veteran eBay sellers don't provide the names of the players or the tunes on a given CD. I know it takes more time and for all I know it costs more money to add this to an offer, but when you're listing some reasonably rare material with which many prospective buyers are not familiar, I'd think providing that information would be beneficial in terms of generating interest/bids. Thanks for indulging my curiosity. -
Goody, Any reaction to the talk of a Lincecum trade for more offense?

historian lives with 26 corpses

I must say there is a certain velveeta-like cheesiness associated with such behavior. But if this loose screw was really dressing the bodies in new clothes, one shutters to consider his motives. I guess the one advantage that might give him is that he would seldom be turned down. -
Same with Gil Hodges. C'mon, man.

Oregon Pinot, baby. The only way to go.

Agreed. Unfortunately, to the record companies this is like the mew of the gelded male.

I came across an article in a music magazine called Side-Line suggesting the the major labels already have plans in place to eliminate the compact disc within the next five years. The article is woefully short on source accreditation, but it still is an interesting read. Sort of sounds like CD's might go the way of vinyl in that they will morph into a higher end specialty product. Could be worth some discussion. http://www.side-line.com/news_comments.php?id=46980_0_2_0_C

Haven't seen the new one yet, but I've always thought Carpenter's 1982 version to be a much underrated film. Sure, it has it's share of gloppiness for the sake of gloppiness, but it is still one of the most atmospheric films I've ever seen. The tension Carpenter creates is almost palpable. And the last scene with Kurt Russell and Keith David (the same Keith David who narrates several of Ken Burns' documentaries) is as desolate and bleak as anything I can recall. I also really like the 1951 version, The Thing From Another World, but it bears very little resemblance to the Campbell novel upon which the series is based.

When I was DJ'ing at KMHD in Gresham, they had one of her CD's in studio called "Visit Me". There were a couple of tunes I really liked that I put in my rotation for awhile. That was a few years ago, so I'd forgotten all about her. NIce voice, pitched a little lower than most women singers. I did not know she was Jimmy Woode's daughter. She is definitely worth checking out.

I'll tell you one thing, don't underestimate the value of playing with other people. I get together with my brother and a mutual friend of ours every week or so. We take turns bringing the tabs to a song we want to work on and just have at it. We play for 2-3 hours, have a few beers and some laughs along the way. It's all good and it makes you better.

Seems to me Dennis Gilbert is exactly the kind of guy the other owners would want. He's rich like they are and he got his by helping people just like them avoid paying their fair share of taxes. A 1%'er joins a bunch of other 1%'ers. How comfy cozy can you get? Lock and load.

In my wildest dreams, I can't imagine a scenario where MLB green lights Mark Cuban as an owner. This is as staid, crusty and uptight a bunch of blue blood suits as you're likely to run into. Allowing a square peg like Cuban into their round hole simply won't happen...ever. MLB already did Bill Veeck. There's no way they'll do him again.
