  1. Strange, I thought it was the more accessible Conversations, which was released first, that always had the best sound. That was the opinion of the Jazzwise reviewer in 2002 when the Fresh Sound stereo CDs were released and also my own experience. By the way, it took me over 30 stress-filled minutes to carefully remove the booklet from the Dolphy Resonance digipack two years ago. It has since had its own plastic sleeve, because putting it back in would surely have caused damage. Exhausting. Haven't listened to Musical Prophet since.
  2. I forgot about Paul Motian's excellent Monk in Motian, so that's 2 Monk tributes in my collection.
  3. One of the very best jazz albums of the past 20 years.
  4. Now listening to the Griffin' on YouTube. By the way, **(*) in the Penguin Guide. They feel something's amiss here. No feeling for nuanced Monk tunes. The Penguin Guide also calls Braxton's Monk tribute a triumph, ****, and I agree. I generally prefer some Thelonious with my Monk, so I own just the one tribute album. Lacy's Reflections was re-issued in Japan in 2013 as part of the excellent Prestige 7000 & New Jazz Chronicle SHM-CDs. I bought a lot of those in 2013-15 in addition to over a 100 Blue Note 75th anniversary SHM-CDs. That's not counting non-Japanese jazz CDs. I had to make a choice and decided against the Lacy at the time. A choice I don't regret, but I'll have another look.
  5. I'll give it another shot, but it was the first of many with Waldron, right? And you like it best?
  6. The one I like best?
  7. Best Monk tribute album around.
  8. You'd think xenophobic Brexiters like John Cleese would want to go first. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, John.
  9. Such a great album! ---------- Now playing:
  10. Listening again, but where is the wicked humour Ethan Iverson brought as a pianist and the trio, being greater than the sum of its parts, exhibited every time they recorded or were on stage?
  11. I was so lucky to find a mint factory sealed copy of the 3CD set for €89.99 last year. And with free shipping from Greece no less. Perhaps my favourite Lee Morgan now.
  12. No, they are just often forced to resort to piracy (availability, poor mastering, etc.).
  13. The box's booklet is outstanding (200 pages). You wouldn't want to be without it. Sound as well. No matter that I hate perhaps about 1/3 of the albums. Great set.
  14. Cocteau Twins Singles Collection.
  15. No CD, no sale. Period.
  16. APO Hybrid SACD
