  1. And Johnny Griffin writing a ballad was unusual according to the CD reissue's liner notes.
  2. 4 in the band, 4 on the bench.
  3. Try a different browser. Didn't work for me on Safari, but did on Chrome. And I don't have social media accounts.
  4. I pre-ordered the Mobley on announcement, but later, after the set was confirmed, cancelled in favour of ordering through Jazz Messengers. Good move, and I'll order as soon as it is in stock. Free next day delivery by courier from Barcelona to the Netherlands and great packaging. You can't beat that.
  5. That explains why I couldn't find it. The German CD was an early effort by ZYX to do the mastering in-house according to Discogs. A few years later this lead to the disastrous black border 20bit digipacks.
  6. All CD versions I heard of The Soul Man! had way too much compression (2 recent Japanese, and also I believe 1996 Germany, except the 1992 Japanese Victor VICJ-23726 which I'm spinning now, mastered at Fantasy Studios 1991. These are the only 4 CD versions Discogs lists. Was there an early 90s US release on CD?
  7. 1992, Freejack.
  8. They'd better step up though.
  9. The Beethoven is a live recording, but any audience noise has been edited out somehow including the applause at the end. If I hadn't read it was a live recording I'd never guessed, and if I hadn't been able to download a rip in advance through bittorrent I never would have bought the CD after having read about 50% being recorded live.
  10. I have had only one negative experience with a Japanese seller. Sometimes their English is not so great, but their intention to communicate sincerely is not in doubt. Only one time did a seller refuse to reply to any of my communications and force me into a PayPal dispute.
  11. CD Japan has some new vinyl listed every now and then. How much new Japanese vinyl is being released anyway?
  12. The new lineup hasn't convinced me yet either. I have been a fan ever since I heard the Pizza Express broadcast on BBC radio February 2003, but perhaps they should call it a day? Reid Anderson had some great solo projects in the past like Abolish Bad Architecture and The Vastness of Space. The Bad Plus was a steady source of income, so it's understandable they aren't eager to throw the towel in the ring.
  13. I found a sealed copy of Blues Up & Down on Discogs. The Onkel Po was already in my Jazz Messengers cart for the next monster order. Thanks.
  14. I only have the outstanding (performance & sound) Promising Music reissue of Though Tenors Again N Again, originally MPS. Where should I go from there? The early Prestige OJCs? The other new live date Ow! Live At The Penthouse?
  15. I think I'll order the Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis Johnny Griffin from this series next. Have you heard it? Is the sound as good as the Woody Shaw?
  16. I was just about to post this:
