  1. A gracious board member has agreed to a trade. Thanks for looking.
  2. Gotta wait 'till X-MAS to dig into the Mobley set. I'm actually listening to some clips from the Mosaic site just to whet my appetite. I'm actually drooling right now.
  3. Good discussion, just wish I could contribute but I don't have the album in question. I do like BLUE HOUR, though, I just don't spin it all that much.
  4. The Mobley set came this a.m. The Dexter photo, however, has yet to arrive.
  5. Score! That's awesome, Dr. J. Give your thoughts on the set as a whole once you've listened to it. It's on my Mosaics to get eventually list.
  6. I don't have the Fats/Tadd set yet, and don't know why I've passed it up so many times before.
  7. Very sad, indeed. I hope Sonny is OK.
  8. Here is a review of the album that I just submitted to the newspaper that I write for. Comments are welcome. Jill Scott - Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2 (Hidden Beach Recordings) The title, Beautifully Human, tells you all you need to know about this album: it’s beautiful and it’s human. Jill Scott sings with such passion and feeling that you’ll want to spin this album over and over. Trust me. Scott sings about life: the good, the bad, and the ugly. “Family Reunion” tells of a family barbecue and of the various things that happen at such events (embarrassing, funny, serious, she’s been to a couple of reunions, I think). She sings about ex-boyfriends, striving for personal hopes and dreams, and the loneliness that everyone feels at certain points in their lives. Oh yeah, there’s subtle shots at George W. Bush too (see “My Petition). Her ability to tell a story with all the nuances is uncanny and totally blows me away. This is R&B, sure, if you want to put a label on it, but I think that detracts from the overall quality of the album. This is excellent music, period. Her musicianship is of the highest caliber, but she doesn’t let that get in the way of her storytelling. I find a lot of today’s pop to be bland and fake, but this disc really strikes a chord deep down inside of me. Jill Scott pours her heart and soul into this album. Do yourself a favor and check it out; you will not regret it.
  9. Jaco. But I admit I'm not as "in the know" about e-bassists as other instruments.
  10. PC's arco work is beautiful, just like the rest of his bass playing. My favorite bassist, bar none. I wish he didn't pass away at such a young age.
  11. Dammit, I'm going to a wedding social tonite. Sorry, David, maybe next time. Is this one going to be archived? I'm still single, eh, I gotta try and pick up some chicks. B-)
  12. There's actually a number of MFs on that list, so I don't know what you're getting at.
  13. Don't have any, but I would if I did.
  14. Good stuff. I have IT MIGHT AS WELL BE SPRING, which is another fine Quebec session, IMO. Going to have to dig that one out soon.
  15. Come on. All the guys I listed are making loads of money and they deserve a little if not a lot of heckling. Matt No, certain NBA players deserve 'heckling', if you really want to heckle someone. Just b/c they're 'making lots of money', doesn't mean you should automatically dis them. Miles and Duke and Pops and Trane and many others made lots of dough. Should we heckle them? I think you know the answer. Get a life and save the BS for another board, far, far, away.
  16. I missed my chance on this set and I'm regretting it now. I don't "do ebay" and don't have a credit card, so my options are limited. If anyone wants to trade/sell/whatever, let me know. I have a number of Mosaics that I'd be willing to trade straight up for this set. Here's a list, in case anyone wants to trade: -Lee Morgan 50s sessions -Curtis Fuller BN/UA sessions -Sam Rivers BN -Morgan/Shorter VeeJay -Bunny Berigan -Blue Mitchell -Woody Shaw -Thad Jones, small group PM or e-mail me. Thanks for looking.
  17. What a dumb idea for a thread; focus on the positive, don't be such a pessimist. I may not like some of the posted vocalists, but I still respect them for the courage they have of trying to make it as jazz musicians. There's many better things to discuss. You obviously have too much time on your hands. I won't give you the satisfaction of participating in the poll.
  18. I don't know enough about this sub-genre. I really hope to tune in, but I might be busy (hopefully not). Recommendations of albums will no doubt come forth from the show, meaning my pocketbook will take another pounding
  19. A friend of my Dad's enjoys Lemon Hart rum, slightly darker, with a rummier flavour. It's nice, but I only like it on occasion. Received a 40 oz. bottle of Bacardi Amber from a friend of mine this week. Might dip into this weekend. Mmmm, rum.
  20. Larry's a damn fine "critic", IMO. An extremely eloquent writer as well. A younger writer like myself can only aspire to reach the level that Larry has attained. BTW, he did justify his criticism; perhaps you should read his post a little more carefully.
  21. Sounds like another interesting show, David. I hope to catch some of it.
