Thanks for the responses, guys. I didn't bother phoning Mosaic and I probably won't unless it takes a really long time. That's pretty dumb about the border thing; two wrongs do not make a right. It just makes Canadian officials look like children, IMO. I kinda hope W. does get turned away at the border; we already have enough moronic politicians up here.

Thanksgiving was last month, Dan, get with it. Oh yeah, you live in the U.S., my bad. At least there's a couple of football games to watch for us pigskin fans to the north. The CFL season is over, the Argos won the Grey Cup (over 4 million TV viewers!).

Jill Scott's new disc. I'm reviewing it for the university paper that I write for. Will be in next week's paper; I'll post a link to the review/paper website if anyone's interested. Dexter Mosaic Select.

I ordered a Dexter Gordon photograph over a month ago and it hasn't arrived yet, even though Mosaic has assured me that it was shipped a long time ago . Also, I ordered a Hank Mobley set (for Santa to give me) and it hasn't arrived; it's been over two weeks. Any other Canadian customers having similar problems receiving stuff from Mosaic, or getting stuff across the border in general. I think I'm going to contact Mosaic again today to see what I should do. I really don't want to go through the customs bureaucracy, that's a major pain in the ass.

Sonny Clark is not on the PC set, but there are other sublime pianists such as Kenny Drew, Tommy Flanagan, and Hank Jones.

I'd be inclined to check out the Reece. Some great sidemen on that one - just check out the discography on the website. That's going to be my next Select, in all likelihood.

If it would de-escalate the situation, absolutely. Though a better line might be, "Hey, looks like the drinks are on me!" Usually when I'm in a bar, it's to provide entertainment, not security. I'll leave the ejection to the doorman. Not exactly an analogous situation, IMO. Two different settings, two different sets of "norms". In this case it was fans vs. players, with little or no outside interference (which was unfortunate and should be fixed ASAP). The fans embarassed themselves and escalted the situation drastically; the players made things reach the "out of control" stage. No one is right in this mess.

BTW, has anyone tried those flavored rums? I've tried Bacardi Limon, and it's not bad w/ OJ. I think Bacardi also has an orange, rasberry, and vanilla flavored rums.
-
Jim - I tried the Anejo when I was in Mexico; brought a bottle back for my old man. That 151 stuff is pretty potent - I've tried the Bacardi (it doesn't taste as powerful as some might think). You must get a nice buzz going if you drink doubles of that stuff! akanolog - Might as well get a head start on the rest of us.
-
Have you tried Havana Club? My dad and I split a bottle of 7 yr old dark rum about a year and a half ago. That could be considered sipping rum too; it was nice.
-
I'm a big rum fan - with coke or gingerale, depending on my mood. I enjoy it without a lime, as I feel the lime detracts from the rum flavour. I enjoy white rum, but prefer amber. Bacardi is a favorite brand, but I also like others: Saba Island (locally bottled), Bundaberg (from Australia), and Captain Morgan spiced rum. If you enjoy rum as much as I, or only occasionally enjoy a "cuba libre", please discuss your preferences here. Cheers! :rsmile:

The whole thing was embarassing for everyone involved: the players, the fans, arena "security", the league in general. Artest is obviously a basket case and might be forced to see a psychiatric doctor (i think he needs to see one). Those fans, ie. the out of control ones, should be barred from all Pistons games. The ones who went onto the court deserve to get punched, IMO. The players no doubt felt their safety zone had been invaded and they had to protect themselves. It's unfortunate that that one fan got drilled in the chops, but that's what happens when shit gets out of control; I don't feel sorry for him, he brought it upon himself. Security has to be beefed up considerably and it should be a criminal offense for any fan to throw stuff at players/step onto the court. At the same time, players should be severely punished for going into the stands; that is completely out of line. One more dumb action from Artest and he should be banned from playing in the NBA for life. He's had more than enough chances.

I had a similar scenario with the PLUGGED NICKEL set. The set was on CDNOW for like 12 bucks; I ordered, but they sent me an e-mail saying that it was a typo. They are covered legally if typos like that occur and they catch them before mailing the product out. Still, that would be sweet if you guys score on that Jazztet Mosaic.

Maybe next week; bought Monk's CRISS-CROSS instead. -_-

I might go for WHISPER NOT. A good one? AMG gives it 4.5 stars, couldn't access the review, for whatever reason.

Don Pullen and Dexter Gordon Selects
pryan replied to Stefan Wood's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
The music is what you buy the set for, but the sound quality does not detract from the overall quality of the box. The music is on a very high plateau; this quartet was tight. -
Funniest Thing You Ever Heard A Drunk Say
pryan replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
At my place of work, drunken rich MF to one of the waitresses : "How old is your mother?" - dumb questions like that to a 20yr old girl. Finally, when he's really drunk, "I'll park my car in your backseat". Think about it. -
Thanks for the recommendations, guys. I'll probably pick up a single disc for my first taste, just 'cuz. I'll report back later (hopefully sooner).
-
i would've entered if there was rum involved. Glad the Argos won, though. Underdogs and it was nice for the old QB to win another one. He can ride off into the sunset if he wants to.

Music = excellent Sound quality = competent GET IT, you will not regret it. -
I have absolutely 0 KJ trio albums. Where would one "take the plunge"?

Got free passes and went to see it on Wed. night. I really enjoyed it as well; great story. The only thing I'd heard about it beforehand was that it was "about wine tasting". Much deeper than that. Five stars, IMO.

Caught some of the program last night. Good show. Really liked "Love Theme from Apache". Gotta find that album.
