  1. Johnny Griffin "sextet" (riverside, mono DG USA) Motoharu Yoshizawa "outfit" (trio, Japan). I think this might be my favorite of the 3 I have by this outstanding Japanese bassist.
  2. Toshiko Mariano "lullabies for you" (CBS, Japan original)
  3. Donald Byrd "Byrd in hand" (blue note, 47 w 63rd mono DG USA) John Fahey "the transfiguration of blind Joe death" (riverboat, USA w/booklet)
  4. Albert Ayler "spiritual unity" (esp, USA) Albert Ayler "spirits rejoice" (esp, mono USA)
  5. Classic! Been a long time fan since "vehicle" on Rough Trade. Was so happy when I got to see them live around 20 years ago... Tonights spins: Ernie Henry "presenting" (riverside, mono white label orig) Wolfgang Dauner "free action" (Saba, Germany tree orig)
  6. Peter Brotzmann "for Adolphe sax" (Bro, Germany) Manfred Schoof "voices" (CBS, Germany)
  7. Paul Chambers "go" (veejay, maroon DG mono USA) Kenny Dorham "blue spring" (riverside, mono DG USA)
  8. Fats Sadi "ensadinado" (Saba, Germany). Thanks to Sidewinder for the nudge on this one; you're right it sounds absolutely incredible! A few clicks on track one but the rest plays perfect...the price was right though at least. Bill Evans "interplay" (riverside, USA mono).
  9. Nat Adderley "introducing" (wing, DG USA) Various "new blue horns" (riverside, DG mono USA". Only the first mono issue has the "flugelin the blues" track by Clark Terry with Thelonious Monk. The stereo issue has a totally different Clark Terry track without Monk. Collector nerd trivia for those who care! Dizzy Reece "star bright" (blue note, 47 w 63rd mono ear DG USA)
  10. Man I just played this but my brain is fried right now after a long day of work..at least two tracks sound very familiar(as in I probably own it) but I cannot make any id or guess for that matter. The only track that is an immediate id for me is the E.E.U track which Corto already pointed out so...I'll have to return to this again sometime this month! Sounds good overall though...
  11. "Concrete Voices" is an album I've passed on buying about 3 times now over the years. I've had an audiophile dub of a very clean LP copy for 10 years or more but I seem content with that I guess. It's an interesting album but not one I return to many times...an interesting choice nonetheless!
  12. Yikes I just saw this bft; I'll listen tonight hopefully...should be an interesting one!
  13. Francy Boland "out of the background" (Saba, Germany tree) Donald Byrd "fuego" (blue note, 47 w 63rd stereo ear) Art Blakey Jazz Messengers "at the jazz corner of the world vol.2" (blue note, 47 w 63rd mono ear)
  14. Benny Golson "the modern touch" (riverside , dg mono USA) Stanley Turrentine "blue hour" (blue note, 47 w 63rd dg mono) Sun Ra "visits planet earth" (Saturn, red label mono orig) Steve Lacy "the wire" (denon, Japan)
  15. Dexter Gordon "dexter calling" (blue note, mono NY ear) Dexter Gordon "getting around" (blue note, mono NY van gelder). Was lucky to score an absolute pristine copy for about $40 not too long ago...a big improvement on my old DMM French copy!
  16. I have the "swirl" cover and regular issue of the "just music" ECM; I love having a red(!!) label ECM album - quite the curio for sure!
  17. Scorpions "lonesome crow" (Brain metronome, Germany) A sentimental favorite. Produced by Conny Plank and featuring a ripping 16 yr old on guitar.
  18. Eddie "lockjaw" Davis "trane whistle" (prestige fireworks DG, USA). Was aware of this album for at least 20 years because of Eric Dolphy's presence; finally found a nice original for under $10. J.R.Monterose "the message" (Jaro, Venus Japan reissue). A friend of mine has a clean original; this exact replica reissue will have to do for me... Benny Golson "turning point" (mercury, mono DG) a fantastic album - and what a band!
  19. Akira Ishikawa "electrum" (HMV/Victor, Japan reissue). On paper this should be an incredible album, but it's merely interesting. Not the sum of its parts and yet I still try to "get it" on repeated listening. Just a bit unfocused... Roy Brooks "beat" (workshop, USA orig). I've had this for a few years but I think this is only the 2nd or 3rd time I've played it..a nice album..obscure but worth tracking down. Peter Brotzmann "for Adolph sax" (Bro, Germany). If I can stay awake I'll pull out the Schlippenbach on Quasar!
  20. Dexter Gordon "Dexter calling" (blue note, mono NY USA ear)
  21. Al I love "Spanish bitch"! I've had it for nearly 20 years now and it's a big favorite too. "Tokyo bound" is also strong with Takeshi Inomata on drums. Oh and "meditations", "first encounter", "journey without end", etc...some great late 70s/early 80s Japanese only titles too.
  22. Well Lacy called that Japan tour in 1975 the "spiritual unity" tour and that makes sense; something very special occurred between those musicians. I've been fortunate to have heard recordings from the live shows and they are equally stunning.
