  1. Hmmm...took a quick cursory listen of all 15 tracks to see if any were instantly familiar but nope! Track two had a distinct Kwela feel so of course Dudu Pukwana and/or Chris McGregor immediately spring to mind but I'm not sure about that. Track one has a UK sound with that electric varitone sax sound..somewhere in the Nucleus camp I'd guess.
  2. Your welcome; glad you enjoyed it! I selected that Hampel track just to have some fun and see who I could fool I agree one would not quickly guess Schlippenbach behind the keys haha... I agree with you regarding Gilson; a great talent.
  3. Heartplants has a discogs listing; there have been a few vinyl reissues beyond the original SABA issue. It was a Japanese cd at one point of memory serves. The "Takeru" LP on Philips(Japan) has never been reissued unfortunately! It may be available in the blogosphere? Thanks for the kind words as well!
  4. Thanks for the consoling words! I think the frustration was multiplied by the fact that my spare time is quite limited with a wife and two little kids. I would suggest a quick google search or discogs search for further details; should only take one or two mouse clicks to find further info! The main details are there; I just left out complete musician/instrument details, label details, and misc comments I had for each track. For example entering "new call from France" and "Jef gilson" into google will reveal as much as one would need. Btw my suspicion is the soloist is Jean-Louis Chantemps because his name is highlighted on the album sleeve.
  5. Gilson is the composer; the soloist is either Francois Jeanneau, Pierre Caron, or Jean-Louis Chantemps. It is not specified who is the soloist unfortunately.
  6. Okay I just spent nearly an hour typing all the track titles, artist info and band members, etc and when I went to post it I got an error message and LOST all my work! So here's the short form; sorry but I can't bring myself to spend another hour doing it again!! Track One "P" from the 2012 "Rheomusi" CD by Fabiano Arajo with Arild Andersen and Nana Vasconcelos Track Two "Snoopy" from the 1970 "Takeru" LP by Takeru Muraoka with George Otsuka, Yoshio Ikeda, and Masabumi Kikuchi Track Three "Movement 1" from the 1966 LP "Nuovi Sentimenti" by Giorgio Gaslini with Don Cherry, Steve Lacy, Gato Barbieri, Enrico Rava, and more. Track Four "Without you" from the 1965 LP "Heartplants" by Gunter Hampel with Manfred Schoof, Alex Von Schlippenbach, Buschi Neibergall, and Pierre Courbois Track Five "A Free Call" from the 1966 LP "New Call from France" by Jef Gilson Track Six "Out of this world" from the 1960 LP "Out of this world" by Walter Benton with Freddie Hubbard, Paul Chambers, Wynton Kelly, and Albert Heath. Track Seven "Hem" from the 2015 LP "Midwest" by Mathias Eick with Mats Eilertsen, etc. Track Eight "Mirage" from the 1969 LP "Change Is" by the Don Rendell/Ian Carr group with Michael Garrick, etc. Track Nine "All Blues/St.Louis Blues" from the 1982 LP "Affinity" by Helen Merrill with Masahiko Togashi, Masahiko Sato, Hozan Yamamoto, etc Track Ten "you better go now" from the 1955 LP "That's Nat" by Nat Adderley with Jerome Richardson, Hank Jones, Kenny Clarke, etc Track Eleven "Windfall" from the 1983 LP "Journey's End" by Miroslav Vitous with John Taylor, John Surman, and Jon Christensen. Sorry for the short version...too frustrated! Lesson learn in not saving or copying work before hitting the "submit" button!!!! Basically I chose this BFT to pay tribute to some recent passings (Vasconcelos, Kikuchi, Taylor, Barbieri) and to just highlight some good tunes from some obscure and not so obscure albums! Thanks to all those who took part...hope you enjoyed it!
  7. I love that record, but moreso for the crazy Dauner/Oxley combo!
  8. But surely you loved the giant foldout blue note poster!?
  9. I just played my mid-80d DMM of "gettin around" and it sounded fine; for me it's just the idea more then anything haha. The Praskin is a good album, Clifford!
  10. Yeah as much as I want "re-union" myself I can't bring myself to buy that reissue.
  11. Albert Mangelsdorff "tension" (bellaphon, Germany 2014) deluxe offical reissue in trifold sleeve. Bought all 4 of these reissues at the time(including the Dauner "dream talk", "yogi jazz" and another Mangelsdorff title); the originals would have set me back a small fortune so I'm perfectly happy with these as substitutes.
  12. Tonight's spin: Nik Bartsch's Mobile "continuum" (ECM, Germany) excellent new album by one of my favorite "young" groups out there...
  13. Slight wear to the opening of top where record comes out(record doesn't come out the side) but otherwise the cover is quite clean. Vinyl looks and sounds mint! Probably hardly played if at all. Happy to get an original of the Schoof on CBS finally too after having the reissue for nearly 20 years.
  14. Various "piano x 4" (Saba tree, stereo orig) Manfred Schoof "voices" (CBS, Germany) Peter Brotzmann "for adolphe sax" (BRO 1, Germany). Todays delivery was especially exciting The BRO for 50 euro was by far the best deal of the 3!
  15. I must be doing something right then!
  16. Philip Catherine "stream" (charlevoix, Canada) 2015 vinyl reissue from Quebec of all places. Have no clue if this is legit or not - does anyone have more info on this? Found it on eBay as I've long wanted the original but never felt compelled to spend the crazy money originals go for. After playing it I'm glad I never did spend money on an original; it's nice but the tunes are all pretty short and I actually prefer "September man". I guess the presence of Marc Moulin on keys and the extra "funk" sound pushes the price up on this. Anyway...this reissue will serve me fine.
  17. Yeah this track was definitely picked to fool people! Shazamming my BFT? Tsk tsk
  18. Cmon Sonny Clark is on both the Green and Turrentine! Can't be that bad
  19. Recently picked up a whole slew of cheap albums on the Time label in really nice condition. All three are fantastic musically and sound-wise; the stereo spread on the Bennie Green doesn't even bother me that much. Stan "the man" Turrentine "vol.7" (with volume 7 on the labels indicating first press according to my jazz expert friend) Bennie Green "s/t" Kenny Dorham "jazz contemporary" Each one cost me only around $10...if only all good jazz Lps were this cheap :0
  20. Paired with some barrel oak aged ipa brewed with locally sourced hops?
  21. I met Han Bennink and Peter Brotzmann in the 90s; got them to each sign their name on the "schwarzwaldfaht" LP I owned. Both seemed nice and down to earth. Also a few years back met Terje Rypdal and he was very kind..signed one of my guitars and seemed genuinely taken aback by the gesture. I've had many other friendly encounters with musicians but two more spring to the top of my mind - Eddie Prevost of AMM was just a great guy..fun and no "air" about him. Same with Bobo Stenson...very genuine folks indeed.
