  1. Air "open air suit" (arista, USA....the cover art is horrid, but the music is great) Don Rendell "space walk" (Columbia, UK) Marion Brown "le temps fou" (polydor, France)
  2. Charles Mingus presents Charles Mingus (candid, USA)... An original pressing...easily in my top 10 all time favorite jazz records!
  3. To be honest the French female vocalizing doesn't really do it for me...
  4. Sun Ra "night of the purple moon" (intergalactic, USA) Hans Reichel/Eroc "kino" (teldec, Germany) David Durrah "angelic streams" (qpsm, USA)
  5. I love that Ronnie Boykins ESP album...nice one. Tonights spins: Hamiett Bluiett "resolution" (black saint, Italy) V/A "live at the festival" (enja, Germany)...love the Harold Land/Bobby Hutcherson group track on this one!
  6. I have mint copies of all 3 Sun Ra horos and they all sound great...clean, quiet vinyl and good(though not great) production. Can't speak regarding the Klimt box...
  7. I've always loved the cover of the springboard album too..just like I love the cover of Pakistani pomade!
  8. Steve Lacy "disposabity" (vik orig, Italy) Steve Lacy "sortie" (polydor, Germany) Springboard "s/t" (polydor, uk)
  9. Yeah don't pay more then $100 for this("the kiss" by Steve Lacy)...it's a good record for sure but in my opinion there are better solo Lacy records out there. I used to have a mint copy with insert/obi but sold mine for $250...would have kept it but can't refuse that sort of crazy money! And I don't really regret it nor miss it...I'd certainly buy it again though if I saw it for $10
  10. Kosuke Mine "2nd album" (three blind mice, Japan) Shunzoh Ohno "something's comming" (east wind, Japan...with Roy Haynes on drums!) Takehisa Kosugi/Akio Suzuki "new sense of hearing" (ALM, Japan)
  11. I remember a few years back when I got my Bellari tube phono preamp...it was a revelation and every record I played from my collection sounded so much better..
  12. What's this one like? I'm working my way through Don Cherry's "Blue Lake"..an original on Japanese BYG...not sure why I waited so many years before picking this up finally as I'm also a big fan of Dyani and Temiz.
  13. I just discovered this thread and although not all of these finds are recent, these would count as some of my best finds in my 20+ years of collecting: Cannonball Adderley "something else" a 47 w 63rd mono in NM condition for $5.99 at a local "college/indie music" record shop Moonstone "s/t" - a pretty rare French Canadian folk psych album found in same above shop in the "free" bin..also NM and flipped for over $300! Sonny Clark "leapin and lopin" a NY stereo original in EX shape for $10..priced from an antiquated "jazz price guide" by a private dealer...from same dealer I got a small cache of mint FMPs, Incus, and a few other gems like the Jeanne Lee "conspiracy" for $4-6 each Wolf Vostell "decollage" a rare Fluxus lp for $10 at a Seattle record store..flipped for nearly $300 However I think my best all time score at least in terms of monetary gain(to fund buying other records of course ) was selling my original "propellor" lp by guided by voices for $1000....my cost - $7 bought new and sealed when it came out! I've had lots of other finds too over the years but I do find them to be more of a rare occurrence in the last 5-10 years...I've also had my share of missed opportunities and "ones that got away" too! These finds over the years have certainly helped me afford my vinyl habit
  14. Yeah more likely to find 10 nana mouskori records at garage sales...and local record stores are pretty much dead in my opinion in so far as finding good used jazz titles. EBay pretty much destroyed the good old days of walking into a record store and finding some good/inexpensive used free jazz records.
  15. You could always arrange to have your entire collection put on a barge, set it on fire, and watch it sail away out into the open sea! I once heard a local collector say that was his wish...and I'll never forget hearing it
  16. That would've been something. Yeah I'm always in awe when I hear stories from older people about seeing all these greats "back in the day"! I've talked to people who've seen Albert Ayler, John Coltrane, Miles Davis and also people who have been to the German free jazz festivals in the early 70s and saw all the European greats (arguably) in their prime...
  17. I have the Inge LP as well and it's a great reissue job!
  18. Yeah new vinyl seems quite problematic, doesn't it? I really like the Speed Limit...sorta electric jazz/prog with cool percussion...recorded really well too...yes Jeff Seffer is on it...better then the Zao records I think
  19. Tonight's listening: Speed Limit "s/t" (chant du monde, France) Full Moon Ensemble "crowded with loneliness" (superfly reissue on 180gm vinyl, France...just got this today and box looked a bit bent out of shape and, of course, vinyl has a big edge warp....moments like this make me hate vinyl)
  20. Yeah, Sound Pool is kind of ridiculous. I'm a big fan of Friday but alas only have it on CD. Leave the City was actually an unauthorized use of the MEV name, apparently, as it was a French offshoot led by Ivan Coaquette (who had collaborated with MEV in Rome). It's a cool psych/drone record, though. Finally pulled a copy of the Horo (I used to say "never more than $50 for a Horo" - had to finally pay the piper) but it's yet to arrive. Yup I know that story about this MEV "offshoot"..I'm actually a big fan of Ivan's "spacecraft" lp and the 3 Fondation cassettes as well...excellent stuff. "United patchwork" is worth every cent...probably my personal favorite! Which reminds me I STILL have not listened to all of that MEV 4cd box on New World yet! "Friday" is pricey on vinyl for sure....I love Alvin Currans first few solo records as well..
  21. I haven't heard that Chris Woods futura lp in over 20 years! It was one of my first "rare" finds in my early days of record hunting and I sold it pre-eBay to make money to fund my rather narrow musical wants at the time...would love to hear it again with my (hopefully) more enlightened ears. Tonight's spins a bit all over the map: Winners pori jazz festival (w/Edward vesala, etc) (odeon, Finland 1973) Zakir Hussain "making music" (German ECM) Anne Briggs "s/t" (UK Topic orig) Love that MEV lp, Clifford! Much more listenable then "the sound pool"...
  22. I found my mint copy for $7(!) but it was just after I bought the rank and file reissue which in my opinion was a well done and quality reissue job so I kept the reissue and flipped the original. It's a wild record but not something I play very often...
  23. Pure comedy indeed Clifford!! The Arthur Doyle selling for over $1,000 is just insane. I sold my mint copy a few years back for around $350 which at the time was on the high side of the average...whoever bought this copy will have a hard time ever getting his money back out of that one!
  24. I have 3 of their records....if you can find them cheap they are certainly worth hearing. It won't blow you away, but interesting records for sure.
