  1. Tony Scott "djangerbali" (Saba, Germany) Larry Young "into something" (Blue Note, Japanese King issue)
  2. Im not familiar with the waxidermy site actually; thanks for the tip!
  3. I was thinking about great drummers and pulled out one more lp to spin before calling it a night..probably my favorite Tomasz Stanko album with the amazing Edward Vesala on drums: "Almost green" (Leo, Finland) My wife, who is by my side right now, even enjoys it!
  4. Yes that's one of my favorite early Lacy albums! I have a mint Japanese press which sounds lovely...it helps that Mal Waldron is on this one too! Tonight's spins: Masahiko Togashi "spiritual moments"...just a classic trio record with Lacy and the great Kent Carter on bass...amazing album..always surprises on each listen Eberhard Weber "yellow fields" (German ECM)..easily my favorite Weber album followed by "little movements" but I'm biased as I think Jon Christensen is one of the best drummers out there
  5. I am interested in buying the following records...will pay between $100-$600 depending on the title and condition. Any help finding these would be appreciated! Black Unity Trio "al-fatihah" Steve Lacy "torments" Steve Reid "rhythmatism" (orig not reissue) East Bionic Symphonia "recorded live" (orig not reissue) Bailey/Bennink/Parker "topography of the lungs" (must be orig blue label with insert) Michael Cosmic "peace in the world" Benny Bailey "soul eyes" (orig Saba)
  6. I like those Burton ECM records with Eberhard Weber...
  7. Love that record...got a stone mint copy of that myself...great album. Well thanks to a friend who came out and helped me install a turntable wall shelf for my ultra sensitive systemdek IIx turntable I am finally up and running with my stereo in my new place. Still have not unpacked even half of my collection yet but tonight I am spinning a few new arrivals that came in the mail these past few weeks: Masura Imada "green caterpillar" (three blind mice, Japan) Kosuke Mine "first" (Philips, Japan...with Larry Ridley on bass!) And one record thats been in the collection for a while.. Miles Davis "milestones" (Columbia 6 eye mono..a great sounding mint copy)
  8. Haha..l'm very tempted myself, but I know in reality I will never listen to all of it...especially with a wife and kid now! I don't think I've event listened to all of my "great deceiver" box yet and that's been sitting on my shelves for years ;(
  9. I tend to agree with you on that point. It is my theory that with so many people, especially younger people, now accessing the internet on smartphones, often while they are on the run or doing something else at the same time, that forums or boards are more difficult to use, and thus less popular. I access the internet sometimes on my smartphone, and sometimes on my desktop PC. It is in fact more difficult for me to read a forum on a smartphone. The type is so small on the screen, and it is often more difficult to view artwork within a post, or to access and read links within a post. It is also much more difficult to type out a post of any length on a smartphone. So the smartphone generation turns to Twitter, where the messages are all very short and easy to type into a phone. It takes a certain amount of attention, focus and ability to easily read on the device you are using, to participate in a forum, and it is not that easy to do all that when you are on the run with a smartphone. I rarely use my desktop anymore, but my iPad works great for accessing and contributing to forums like this.
  10. On a sorta related note my copy of Eric Dolphy's "the great concert of" is a USA prestige 3lp box...so is there a considerably better sounding alternative issue of this besides the (now) hideously expensive original individual Lps?
  11. That's a cool record. I like "wounds" on the quartz label as well. All moved in now and today I just finished setting up my record shelves. Hopefully in the next week or so I can get my stereo/turntable set up as well as taking all the records out of the boxes and filing them in alphabetical order ( oh joy! ).
  12. Some years ago I walked into a record store that had just purchased a HUGE classical collection..it was literally just in the door in boxes still. I got one of the first cracks at it and within the collection was quite a fair bit of modern/electronic stuff. The best part? Pretty much the entire philips silver series! I bought all the titles I needed in one stop. I think the prices ranged from $15 to $60 tops(for a few parmegianis and the luc Ferrari). Quite the day!
  13. For jazz I'd have to rate early German ECM issues pressed by Deutsche Grammophone. In general I find German and Japanese vinyl to be the best, or at least less likely to have issues. French label vinyl often seems the worst or most problematic.
  14. Yes, it does give you the CHANCE. We moved in 2005 and still haven't. MG Haha. Yes I see the opportunity but I ended up pretty much putting everything in boxes thinking "I'll deal with this in the new place"! Having a one year old limits the time to sort through stuff as well... Thank God for wine boxes! Great for moving records...
  15. I'm listening to silence.. All the records are packed into boxes..as is everything else...big move this weekend!
  16. Pharoah Sanders "pharoah" (India navigation) Nathan Davis "the hip walk" (saba)
  17. Clifford is your Tony Oxley vinyl quiet? My friend has a copy...looks fine but is quite noisy. I used to have "baptised traveller" on vinyl and it too looked mint but had annoying tics and pops. As for Bill Dixon I must confess I still have not listened to much of the 6CD "odyssey" box set despite buying it upon release directly from Bill. I'm pretty sure some of that Fore material is on this box... I absolutely love "around 6", but I'm a huge fan of both Kenny Wheeler AND Edward Vesala so it's a no brainer for me
  18. Various "for example" (FMP 3LP box)
  19. Thanks! Will look for " down in the village" first and proceed from there if I like what I hear
  20. I do not own anything by Tubby Hayes and would like recommendations on what CDs to pick up first? Looking for 2 suggestions...which records are his best?
  21. I absolutely love his European quartet but that is mainly for his rhythm section.... I'm also a big fan of Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette but moreso in other contexts...the "standards" trio is good of course but certainly not amazing.
  22. Masayuki "jojo" Takayanagi "experimental performance with John Zorn" (mobys, Japan) Jef Gilson "Malagasy" (lumen, france)
  23. That Kosugi is cool; I only have the reissue, but it's a neat record. I have not heard the Phoenix reissue, but the original sounds 100 times better then the former reissue put out by cortical foundation...it is one of my faves in this genre for sure!
  24. Yamashta & The Horizon "sunrise from west sea" (liberty, Japan) Kosugi/Ranta/Ichiyanagi "improvisation 1975" (iskra, Japan original) Masahiko Sato "transformation 69/71" (express, japan)
  25. A wonder none of those Brown-Hampel group LPs have been reissued... all three are wonderful.
