  1. The German label that nicely reissued "Alabama feeling" by arthur Doyle on lp a few years back had planned on reissuing the Black Unity lp but nothing ever materialized apparently due to objections from Abdul Wadud?
  2. Steve Lacy " stalks" (japan, Columbia) Mal Waldron "trio" (karim, Italy reissue) Can "future days" ( Germany, united artists) Magical Power Mako "s/t" (Japan, polydor)
  3. Dave Liebman "lookout farm" (Germany, ECM) Kenny Wheeler "gnu high" (Germany, ECM)
  4. An incredible album! One of my favorites on that label along with the two Jacques LeJeune titles. For some reason I'm in a prog mood tonight... Brainticket "celestial ocean" (Germany, RCA) Ash Ra Tempel "schwingunen" (Germany, ohr) Cluster "71" (Germany, Philips) And right now for a change of pace: Loren Mazzacane/Kath Bloom "sing the children over" (USA, ambiguous)
  5. I may be in the minority here but I actually strongly prefer the earlier lp "integration"...it's like the Rendell/Carr group with Amancio on guitar. I find "hum dono" to be a bit(just a small bit, mind you) blemished by the slightly hippie/world vibe..or am I nuts? "integration" has more punch/balls...
  6. Wow! Must have been amazing to witness...
  7. Matthias Eick "Skala" (Germany , ECM....my wife's favorite album in my collection!!) Keith Jarrett "My Song" (Germany, ECM) Oregon "Out of the woods" (USA, Discovery...an audiophile pressing from this Jac Holzman-led company) Jean Claude Eloy "Shanti" (France, Erato)
  8. I love this album! Was lucky to fluke out on a mint copy with OBI for $50 a few years back...a great & varied session for sure!
  9. Part of my honeymoon was spent in Mykonos and Santorini and those were both beautiful places but it sounds like you are heading the opposite direction from Italy Have a great and safe trip!
  10. Om with Dom Um Romao "s/t" (Germany, Japo) Popol Vuh "affenstunde" (Germany, Liberty)
  11. Weather Report "sweetnighter" (USA, Columbia)
  12. Got a new amplifier today(well a late 70s vintage beast that weighs a ton but sounds amazing) and these records got played to test it out: Michael Garrick "prelude to heart is a lotus" (gearbox) ...excellent sound, music, and performance...what a great album! Masabumi Kikuchi "end for the beginning" (Philips, Japan) Henri Texier "Paris-batignolles" (label bleu, France)
  13. Tonight's spins: Azimuth "s/t" (German ECM) Tuohi Klang "penselmann hits" (Finland UFO) Eberhard Weber "yellow fields" (German ECM)
  14. Hey Clifford..my box is a bit ragged too...I think it would be pretty hard to find this with a nice outer box as the material is so flimsy!!
  15. That's a fantastic box...happy to own it myself. The big booklet enclosed is the icing on the cake..
  16. Over my 20 years of attending jazz concerts I always try to buy CDs from the artists after the gig because I know they make more money this way...
  17. That's the cover I have!
  18. I bought this upon release directly from Bill...he even gave me a nice discount on it at the time...a very nice man in the little correspondence we shared. It's a mammoth set and to be honest I have not even played it all yet(!) but what I have listened to is fascinating indeed.
  19. I have the German issue of "sortie" on polydor(I actually like this cover more then the Italian issue) and can't recall the abrupt ending of track one..I'll have to dig this out and play it again. As for the clipping on "disposability" yes that is highly annoying! I had a standalone cd reissue of this which exhibited this same clipping noise and it drove me nuts. Then I found a later(80s/90s??) vinyl reissue that had the same clipping noises!! It wasn't until a few years ago that I finally got a mint original pressing that this clipping was not present. So I'm afraid for this title the Lacy fan will need the first pressing....it sounds killer and yes jeffcrom this title is one of my favorite early Lacy titles too...a fantastic trio album!!
  20. Wolfgang Dauner "output" (German, ECM) Miles Davis "four and more" (USA Columbia 2 eye)
  21. A long listening session last night: Terje Rypdal "waves" (German ECM) Terje Rypdal "what comes after" (German ECM) Mathias Eick "skala" (German ECM) Ralph Towner "solstice" (German ECM) And the last record, just to shake things up a tiny bit: New jazz festival Hamburg 75 (German, polydor) ..a nice Rypdal track on this great live compilation but the real standout for me is the amazing live track by Eberhard Weber's "yellow fields" band...I really wish this particular group could have been recorded live more often...this is the only released live track I know of.
  22. Yeah the Lacy was a recent score..and with the OBI too! It is a great solo record...
  23. And one more...a nice mellow end to a good listening session: Mal Waldron/Jackie McLean "like old times" (RCA, Japan) a very beautiful 1976 session from two giants with Isao Suzuki on bass and Billy Higgins on drums
  24. Sadao Watanabe "s/t" (Sony, Japan) a slightly uneven but actually pretty amazing/surprising album featuring Masayuki Takayanagi on guitar! Steve Lacy "solo at mandara" (ALM, Japan) Harry Whitaker "black renaissance" (baystate, Japan). Woody Shaw is phenomenal on this date...
  25. The Tony Scott album is incredible; definitely worth having. "parabolic" is the same record as "orgasm" right? I have the "orgasm" lp and that's a nice session indeed.
