What did you pay for your Cosmic? I think at this point I'd happily pay $500 for a copy but this will probably never happen on eBay! -

Nice date. I sold my copy in the "great vinyl purge" of the '90s. Agreed I love this record.. -

"Speed and space" is a total killer....I'm lucky to own a mint original with OBI...I like it a notch better then "we now create" -

That GL unit record is cool...can't remember what I bought mine for years ago but probably around $75.... I wish that Michael cosmic lp wasn't so crazy hard to find...it's weird how quite a few copies of "creator spaces" have popped up on eBay in the last year or 2 though...thankfully I at least have that one... -

Wow, never seen or heard of that! Clifford - It's another obscure Lansdowne series LP recorded for Denis Preston and a good one. The whole of the first side is a sound-track for a thriller novel that was in his head but never published. Ratip also did a trio album for UK Columbia a few years earlier than this one - 'Introducing Arman Ratip'. He lives in Cyprus these days I think. Thanks Sidewinder for posting this LP...I've never heard of it either...strange lineup though with no drummer? Nope ! Obviously I need to figure out how to quote and respond to forum entries...;( -

Agreed Clifford; a friend of mine once owned a mint copy of that "Heliopolis" album and made me an audiophile grade CD of it and I was quite underwhelmed. This was well over 10 years ago and once every few years I'll dig up that CD to make sure I did not miss anything and each time my assessment remains the same...a cool artifact yes but rather lackluster music. Beware some of those Japanese titles in this auction are reissues...namely "independence" by Takayanagi and "we now create" by Togashi. -

Paul that's a great Marion Brown/Mal Waldron album...I should pull that out myself to play again. Clifford how would you compare that Braxton to the other one on BYG? I have that one but for some reason never did get around to buying "this time"...is it drastically different? Tonight's playlist: Terumasa Hino "taro's mood" (Japanese enja/victor) Dave Liebman "first visit" (Philips, Japan) Alexander Von Schlippenbach "the living music" (Germany, quasar) -

It's a nice collection with definitely at least 4 or 5 monsters. I really want the Michael Cosmic lp but it's already past my price point of $500! If he had the Black Unity Trio lp for auction too then I'd really be sweating as that's my other top want which I'll probably never get for my maximum limit of $500... -

Taj Mahal Travellers "july 15 1972" (Sony quad, Japan) Kosugi/Ranta/Ichiyanagi "improvisation 1975" (iskra, Japan) Kohsuke Mine "solid" (east wind, Japan) Everything is everything "just flash in cosmic pan" (Columbia, Japan) Maybe next listening session I'll dig out some non-Japanese albums -
What live music are you going to see tonight?
Homefromtheforest replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
I just the Tusques 4tet minus Sclavis in Vancouver last night....great set but Tusques definitely took a back seat and I must say Parker and Drake shined the brightest. I love Louis Sclavis and have seen him play at least 4 or 5 times over the last 20 years but can't imagine how he would gel with Kidd Jordan...seems like an odd pairing style wise -

Clifford try to find a Japanese issue of "le nouveau jazz".... It should be cheaper and likely easier to find in clean condition....I'm often quite suspect of french pressings..in general not the best quality. I,m seeing Francois Tusques live this Friday at the Vancouver jazz festival with William Parker, Hamid Drake, and Kidd Jordan! -

The rendell/Carr lps actually show up for sale on eBay fairly often, but they still go for big bucks nonetheless. I mentioned Clem Alford because the "mirror image" lp which I have has Amancio D'Silva on guitar. It's not super amazing but an interesting session. The Garuda lp is more of a funky/slick affair but still quite good actually and was supervised by none other then Denis Preston at lansdowne studio. His production was so amazing! Those lansdowne records sound incredible. I have an audiophile friend with a $15,000+ turntable and he'd kill me for my pristine Japanese stereo copy of "dusk fire"..it sounds like a dream on his system...not a single crackle or click to be heard! Tonight's listening: Everything is everything "just flash in the cosmic pan" (Columbia, Japan) a totally scarce 1970 lp featuring Steve grossman, Dave liebman, John Abercrombie, Reggie workman, Joe bonner and a few others....killer free jazz/fusion stuff -

Hi sidewinder..do you have the Clem Alford and Garuda lps? I have these and they have connections to the lansdowne series. I do like the Joe harriott/John Mayer lps on lansdowne and hey I would of course love to have that cosmic eye lp!! Though I think I'd rather spend the big bucks(if I ever had them now anymore with a wife and baby!!) on "shades of blue" and complete my rendell/Carr 5tet collection -

Agreed Clifford! Tonight's rotation: Erwin Somer group "s/t" Terumasa Hino "alone together" John Coltrane "soultrane" (an orig but slightly crackly prestige issue) -

Well Clifford I'm sure sidewinder does have me beat! I don't have that cosmic eye lp but from the samples I've heard I'm not so sure I'd pay big bucks for it..didn't strike me as too amazing...interesting yes but not something I'd play very much I think. Chuck you are right of course...rare does not guarantee good but I must say a lot of the "rare" records in my collection are quite good and in many cases some of my favorites by the artist in question. For example I find the two mid-70s Japanese only group records("stalks" and "the wire") by Steve Lacy to be among his very best group efforts. Btw "people in sorrow" on the Nessa label was the first free jazz album I ever bought as a mid-teen after being first exposed to John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk. I played that record a lot and now have a Pathe Marconi issue of it in my collection which is so much better because it's rare -

Hi Clifford..I have that "wave train" double lp too and yes it is great. One of the better titles on the Alga Marghen label for sure. What I love about that Sonic Arts Union album is just how amazingly contemporary/experimental it STILL sounds to this day. Really startling music on it..just brilliant. Thanks for the tip on the book..hope it gets published soon. Tonight's listening is on a Japanese kick: Terumasa Hino meets Reggie Workman "A Part" (finally recently found this monster that compliments the "love nature" and "peace and love" albums I already have... "journey to air" is another great Hino monster but a different band) Kohsuke Mine "daguri" (RCA victor), "solid" (east wind) Magical Power Mako "s/t" (polydor Japan) Don Cherry "blue lake" (BYG Japan) Sadao Watanabe "s/t" (Sony Japan with masayaki takayanagi on guitar!), "Iberian waltz" (takt Japan with Charlie Mariano) -
