  1. According to cecil Payne: Chic-A-Boom = Chic-A-Go
  2. There are several Jazz gigs scheduled in Israel in the following that, I believe, need to be recorded for a wider audience than the ones attending the shows. We're thinking of recording the gigs and produce a limited number of CDs/LPs. We're contacting the musicians and the concert hall to get their permission. Now for my questions: What minimum recording equipment you think will suffice to get a decent/good recording? Is it enough to attach a DAT to the control console? Thanks!! Barak ps: B3-er, feel free to relocate the thread. I didn't know whether it belongs to the live shows or the Audio talk, so I posted it here on the misc. music.
  3. Just caught up with this thread. Jim, my thoughts are with you. Hopefully those positive vibes I'm sending will reach you over the Atlantic.
  4. Actually, no. fathead initially thought it was a MD and asked whether I'll be able to send him a CDR of the show. I think he was a bit disappointed that all I had was a camcorder. BTW, I asked Fathead about his son, Cadino. He said he's doing nothing with himself, eventhough he is a fine singer. That's why Fathead gave him the cameo performance in Cillin' (HighNote), hoping it'll give him the push to make something out of himself. But apparently it didn't do the trick...
  5. many months ago I lived in DC. One of the great pleasures of living there was "Twins Jazz" - our local Jazz Club/Ethiopian restaurant. This is a short video I took of the great Fathead Newman's gig at Twins. 71 years young and still going strong. This weekend I somehow remembered the tape I took (with Fathead's permission, of course) and even managed to locate it and upload it for you enjoyment. the rhythm section consist of Allyn Johnson(p); Steve Novosel(b); Harold Mann(d) Fathead at Twins Jazz

  12. Adam, First of all, do you have exact dates for your stay in Israel? Secondly, Any genre preferences? Barak
  13. Mingus Big Band, for sure.
  14. An interesting fact: The Israeli Jazz BB that I administrate has just selected Jemeel Moondoc for "Alto Player of the year 2004" with Zorn on the 2nd place. As for myself - I think Josh Redman is overrated as well as Brad Mehldau. Vandermark is there too.
  15. I think Joshua Redman share the same faith. As for me, I enjoy Eric's playing, his fire and his mastery of the axe. I don't feel that his technical ability hampers his way of expressing himself. In any case, one can easily hear his advancement over the years. I think he's beginning to find his own voice. I'll be looking for his next release.
  16. Sad News, indeed. RIP, Gil

  18. Yesterday I spun a burnt copy of Brotherhood of Breath - Travelling Somewhere and was blown away! Great music that combines early 70s Free Jazz big band with South African rhythms. Any love for this band around here? What other records this band has recorded?
