  4. In this country the law states that the minimum vacation days are 2 weeks (10 working days for a 5 days a week schedule). You gain more vacation days if you gain some seniority in your workplace: Each additional year on the same workplace adds another 2 days per year, untill you reach the max. of 22 (work) days per year, which is over a month of vacation. That's the law, which means that's the minimun. You can negotiate your working terms with your employee, of course. For example, in my current job I get 30 (work) days off a year, which amounts to 6 a weeks vacation.
  5. To the western ears, it may take some time to get used to the Chinese music vocabulary and instruments. After that, it's a sheer pleasure to those of us who enjoy the (political) works of Mingus, Roach, Tapscott etc. Jangs music is beautiful, and, in addition, socially motivated. I believe you'll like it, especially "Self Defense"
  6. I believe that indeed it was Tapscott's Arkestra rather than Sun Ra's Arkestra in Jang's mind when naming his Orchestra.
  7. I thought a thread about this excellent pianist and composer is in order. Jang is creating an exciting fusion of Chino-African Jazz. I enjoyed all of his discs I heard so far. Two Flowers on a Stem with his African-Asian Sextet is incredible! I also like his Pan-Asian Arketra discs: I saw him last april in DC with Anthony Brown's Asian American orchestra. They were playing Ellington's Far East Suite, plus, as an encore - Come Sunday. Jon Jang played fantastically the intro on Come Sunday. He slowly created a gospel-spiritual atmosphere, then added some chinese music elements, and while doing so, he started playing more and more out. When he was totally out, he started blending in musical elements from Come Sunday. Boy, it was brilliant! Anyone else share my love for Jang's playing?
  8. Lately, I've been listening a lot to Armenian, Greek, West-African and Israeli music. I guess that's considered to be "World music". So, I voted Folk/World, eventhough I really don't like the term "World Music". I find it condescending - pulling together whatever music that is not of an Anglo-American descent.
  9. Very sad news. He will be missed.
