Nope. Are they new? Thanks for the spam. Bye now!
  4. No need for a new one, but thanks.
  5. Bush has killed 2000 Americans. What about that?
  6. To a packed house of 20 people!!!
  7. Well, even if 200 people come out (which would be great for a jazz concert), it's still going to appear lonely in a 650 seat auditorium. Even if it's HALF full, it's going to look empty.
  8. ← Hey, don't I get a piece of the action?
  9. So the Perleman holds about 650 people and they're selling tickets at $41 a pop? Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but... man, it's going to be lonely in there.
  10. So you're ordering the CD, right? neveronfriday, CDBaby is pretty cool about shipping overseas. And before you place the order, check out these threads in order to make your order worth the shipping: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=22365 http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...topic=2411&st=0 http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...opic=13928&st=0 And of course, our first CD is available on CDBaby as well! Git yer organissimo fix-issimo!
  11. It's easy to forget that it was just 50 years ago! I think people of my generation don't even register that.
  12. $41? Youch! I mean, Von is worth it, but let's consider the market for a bit here.
  13. I personally like the term "asshat".
  14. Happy Birthday!!! Hopefully we'll be back in NYC soon!
  15. D'oh! You're right! All I remember is Homer calling him "Grimey".
  16. Rooster, I believe my wife has us enrolled in a similair program through her work (the flex-plan, health-saver thingy) but I have no idea how it works. I will ask her to post here about it. $100 a month is pretty steep but when it comes to your health, is any price really too high? Free For All, I have a pretty intense aversion to doctors myself. In fact, I went to get my back checked out and my heart (been having a lot of palpitations recently... my heart has always skipped beats now and then, but it seems to be doing so with increased frequency) and I cancelled my follow-up appointment (I was coming back from the east coast) and have not gone in for my bloodwork yet. I don't know what it is, but I just really don't like doctors and hospitals.
  17. Does he know there is(was) a Simpsons character named Henry Grimes?
  18. Hey folks, If you're still on the fence about buying our new CD, "This Is The Place", take a listen to the free download over at AAJ. Remember, if you want to buy the CD you don't have to wait until it is in stock at CDUniverse. You can order from CDBaby.com today! Check out the free download by clicking here!
  19. 80 is not a bad turnout, but in the Wealthy St. Theater it probably felt like 10. We had almost 70 at the Creole Gallery in Lansing, which felt like a full house because the venue is so small. How about a Grand Rapids Jazz Festival in the John Ball Park Zoo ampitheatre?
  20. Jack, welcome to the board. Don't worry about putting this thread in the "wrong place". I moved it and it is not a big deal. On a side note to our regular members, just PM me if someone places something in the wrong forum. Not everyone is as computer savvy as the main posters around here. To get to your original point, ie low turn-out for jazz gigs, I would have to say that as good as the Henry Johnson Organ Express is, they are not exactly high profile guys. That is not to say they aren't great musicians, but most people do not know who Henry Johnson is, much less his organist, the fantastic Chris Foreman, except for die-hard jazz organ fans or musicians. As far as musicians are concerned, if we're lucky we're playing gigs on a Saturday night, not spending $15 to see a show. I was playing last night as was Randy Marsh, who called me to tell me that Henry was at the Wealthy St. Theater. As far as die-hard jazz fans, it is my experience that they are more concerned with spending $15 on a CD than seeing music live. This is why organissimo is actively pursuing a younger audience that is more into the "jamband" scene. The younger kids actually spend money to go see a show, sometimes not buying the CD at all, which is fine with me since we make money by playing not by selling CDs. Some of it might be the venue as well. I know when organissimo played the Wealthy St. Theater, we had maybe 20 people there. In our case, there was no advertising done and people probably didn't want to pay $10 to see us at the theater when they can see us (sometimes) at Billy's for a $5 cover charge. There have been a recent string of muggins and car break-ins in that neighborhood recently, which is a real shame because it's a cool neighborhood. So that probably keeps people away. I don't know if you've approached Billy's Lounge about hosting some concerts, but I bet that Henry Johnson's group would be a good draw there, if the ticket price was around $5 - $6. Yes, it's less than $15, but if you get more people in for less money than you wind up making more money that only getting a few people in for $15. I know that Melvin Sparks plays Billy's often and packs the place. Another thing to consider is your competition for people's money, not only that night but for the week. We opened for John Scofield at the Intersection Tuesday night. Tickets were $22.50 ($26 at the door). Maybe a lot of Grand Rapids jazz fans went to see Sco and spent their money there and just couldn't spend another $15 to see Henry. The economy is shit, money is tight, and things are about to get worse with the onset of winter and increased heating costs. Just some things to think about from someone "in the trenches"...
  21. Go ahead - rub it in! ← Don't worry, 7/4, I'll handle this. Hey Ron, the Fort Washington Expo Center is about 6 miles from your house, eh? Well, organissimo ain't. HA! Oh wait... we actually want to play Philly. D'oh!
  22. Mark, those are fantastic!!! Finally, a group shot of us playing, in concert, that we can use for promo stuff!! Woo hoo! Thank you so much for coming to the show and for taking such wonderful photos!
  23. Well, we had a great time opening for Sco. The audience was very receptive and we sold some CDs. It was cool to meet the man and his band (Gary Versace was killin' on the Hammond). It was really cool when Sco thanked us from the stage. The band was tight... Scofield is at the top of his game right now. He just seems totally unimpeded in expressing his ideas. It is very inspiring from a musician's standpoint.
