  1. Why would we get rid of it when you have the option to ignore it and thus not even see that it's there in the first place?!? I'm confused and tempted to close this thread since the entire premise seems silly.
  2. Hey, this is a non-political forum were talking about here. Enough with the politics.
  3. Guess where we're playing that weekend, Jim? YEP, the Green Door!!! Both Friday and Saturday!
  4. That your days are numbered, buddy! Johnny, I keep a politics forum here because I like having you and other political goofballs around and I join in every now and then. But like others have pointed out, there is ONE football thread right now whereas politics has it's own forum. Some people don't want to see the politics cluttering up the screen when they use the "Today's Active Topic" button since they don't want to get into political discussions anyway. This allows them to not have to see the topics which is their choice. We're not criticizing people on their jazz-internet-board-lifestyle choice, are we?
  5. Maybe they don't want to read about politics on a board that they go to for jazz. It would be nice if you didn't belittle someone (and likewise assume they have their head in the sand) for their choice. You have a choice to read and post in the politics section, they have the choice not to read and post in the politics section.

  7. Do not forget McDuff. He was brilliant. What McDuff brought to the table was true arranging for an organ group. All the horn parts were arranged by McDuff specifically for the horn players he had at the time. And he also had the one of the best organ drummers ever (the other being Billy James) in Joe Dukes. McDuff's groups always had a sound of their own. In speaking of Jimmy McGriff, he himself has admitted that he thinks of himself more as a blues organist than a jazz organist. All I know is that those early Sue records are KILLIN'! Try to find the two on Solid State (don't think they ever made it to CD) called "Bag Full of Soul" and "Bag Full of Blues". Fantastic records. McGriff had that swingin' bass groove like nobody else. The Turbanator, Dr. Lonnie Smith, has to be seen live to be fully appreciated. I don't think any record has fully captured what he's all about. His first solo record on Columbia is probably my favorite of his (although all the tunes get the fade-out treatment and are too short... wonder if full versions exist in Columbia's vaults?) Again, this is not on CD but has recently been re-issued on vinyl so it should be easier to find (I paid $60 for a mint original copy back on ebay before it was re-issued). I would like to add Bill Heid to this list too. Even though he isn't really a 60's or 70's guy, he is a direct link to that era being taught by both Larry Young and Don Patterson. If you haven't checked out any of his records yet, you're missing something BIG. I highly recommend "Dark Secrets" for that "Unity" vibe (even has the same lineup.)
  8. Ahem. The situation is under control.
  9. No no no... I insist. Thank me.
  10. I forgot to mention that our gig Friday was double-booked and our manager didn't stand her ground and get any money, even though it was the owner's fault. We should've gotten at least half our pay. And I found out tonight that both gigs next weekend are cancelled including one that was a $500 per man private Christmas party. So I'm basically making $130 (tonight's pay) the next two weeks. Great.
  11. Just got word that the bar my R&B band plays a lot (the ol' Green Door Lounge) is going to be bought by a guy who owns a couple of other bars in town. The guy is a real asshole to musicians and was once overheard by our guitarist saying, "Musicians shouldn't even be paid. They should just be happy to play music publicly". That should tell you where he's coming from. If he buys the Green Door we can basically kiss our most steady gig goodbye (and the one gig I can count on for steady income) because the guy has no respect for musicians and I'm sure he'd try to cut our pay and/or find something we did "wrong" and fuck us over somehow. He's done it before...
  12. Sorry folks. It looks like the software upgrade automatically turned this on. I apologize... it has now been fixed. Go change those posts to your heart's content!!!!
  13. Guess who's gonna be a-suing this holiday season?!!
  14. That offends me. Moby Dick should be first.
  15. Just a reminder: If you want to block the politics forum but for whatever reason don't want it public knowledge, you can email me or PM me.
  16. Please don't assume what I am or am not doing in response to this. Chris and I have been talking privately, as have Wingy and I. Not everything has to be for public consumption, dig?
  17. Guns & Roses? Are they serious?!? And no. 61 no less?
  18. What's funny is that Bachelor guy is from East Lansing and had a band here when I was in late high school/early college called Fat Amy. I think I saw them live once and was not impressed. It's sort of lame (but not unexpected) that his musical career has been revived because of that show. Oh well. Back to the trenches with me (have to play Lansing's smokiest bar tonight... The Green Door Lounge).
  19. Randy, what about that set you played on the Mitch Albom show... the Yamaha Beech Customs. That was a killer set!! Organissimo is going to go all in-ear monitoring very soon. In-ear monitors are great because they are earplugs and earphones in one. So you block out all the loudness and have your very own personal mix right in your ear at any level you want. Great stuff!

  24. I ain't no dummy but I'm not going to lie down either. You know that. Let's keep things cool.
  25. All right, no flame wars, folks.
