  1. I thought his Sinatra book was good, but his Singers book was awful.
  2. As a boy, the only gift I loved as much as my Erector set was the Lionel Trains set I received for Xmas 1941. My mother gave it away when I was 14, and I never really forgave her. She didn't touch my Erector set, which I had received that same Xmas. It came in a red metal box, had a large electric motor, and looked something like this: Anyone else here have an Erector or Meccano set?
  3. Clever sync, but what will he play when the neighbors burn the house down?
  4. I was there, at the VV, when this was recorded, and I have a pretty good memory—so I sold my copies (I had 2, one still sealed) for a dollar each. It's only paper and vinyl.
  5. Dear Rolf, I did not know what you were going through, so the news comes as a shock. Please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of your wife, she was obviously a truly remarkable woman, and it is clear to me that she found the right mate. Senator Bond's tribute was moving, thank you for sharing it. If my own experience means anything, your beloved Julie will continue to make her presence felt to you and your two daughters--this is but a physical absence and you will all continue to draw strength from the memories and spirit she leaves behind. Take good care of yourself, Rolf . You, Monika and Paula are fortunate to have each other now, the loss will always be there, but time will mitigate your sorrow. Chris I tried to send this as a PM, but it wouldn't let me do that.
  6. It was a disgusting exemplar of bad taste and warped film making to interrupt a sublime performance with mindless blather from that grotesque, unsightly inflated man and the other J&LC clown. As always, neither had anything worthwhile to say. Mmilovan, you get demerits for making us relive that nightmare.
  7. Allan, Toast will ask if you wish to save the playlist. It also allows you to create a disc image of whatever you were burning, which is a good way in which to store things for encore burns.
  8. This was done around the same time as Louis' appearance in the Danish film, København, Kalundborg, og ?. Clips from that film are common and wonderful. The title translates into Copenhagen, Kalundborg (the latter being another Danish city) and relates to the Danish radio that ID'ed itself as "Danmarks Radio, København, Kalundborg. I believe a second transmitter was at Kalundborg. I have never seen the film, but I imagine it is along the lines of Hollywood's "The Big Broadcast" and England's "Radio Parade of 1935", both had thin plots and were basically an excuse to bring popular radio stars to the silver screen. BTW, the British film included a production number starring Alberta Hunter. It was the first British feature film to be shot in color (Dufay Color), but only Alberta's number—the rest was black and white.
  9. I am not sure what you mean by saving playlists and burning them, but I have been using Toast (currently Toast 10) for many years and I am very pleased with it.
  10. Go here for the full 25-minute version of Back Home Again in Indiana.
  11. Longing for the good old days, when I flew to California once a month. They gave you a choice of steak, chicken, or seafood, baggage allowance was generous, groping was of the in-flight variety....and consensual. There was even a pleasant place to rendezvous aboard, as in this coach lounge (first class was $15 more on coast-to-coast flights had a pianist):
  12. They should have consulted Issac Yeffet, former Director of Security for El Al, before spending all that money and making such fools of themselves. Does it not seem logical to ask for advice from people who are successfully addressing this security problem? The following link takes you to Mr. Yeffet's appearanjce on yesterdays Olbermann show. I tried to parse it down to the interview, but wasn't ab;e yo, so this is the whole segment, commercials and animated fluff included. Just move the "Play" indicator forward to 3:14 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036677/vp/40244871#40244871
  13. I think Anastos is long gone, at least I hope so, but we are still getting human tragedy stories with a smile—and almost a wink. One of my favorite exchanges involves an inappropriate response from a NYPD detective. A child playing in a Harlem playground was hot and killed. Reporter: Do you think they aimed specifically at the boy? NYPD guy: No, just lucky, I guess.
  14. You might also like... Cholera death toll rises in Haiti Thousands of unemployed will lose compensation etc., etc. Actually, the heading covers 3 or 4 stories, but, automation or not, someone with a real brain ought to at lest cast a cursory glance on each page.
  15. You got it, Jeff! Do you agree that it shows poor judgement?
  16. They have now scratched toddlers off the fondle list.
  17. This, from the Washington Post online site, struck me as being in poor taste. What do you think?
  18. If your cat did it, there's always the window
  19. Because they have an itch?
  20. I think many of Sondheim's songs suffer from pretentiousness. I would honestly prefer sings like If Your Phone Don't Ring, it's Me or One More Beer and I'll Go Home.
  21. Rolf, I knew there'd be more to come. I hope this one is still good: Let the year head be a really good one for you!
  22. If he had had a Mac, he would not have needed repairs and, thus, would have saved himself 20 million dollars. I have always maintained that Macs are a better investment—this proves it!
  23. Thanks, Rooster Ties, I removed the excessive "http://" so the link should now work. I hope to read some comments on the music, like identification of musicians, perhaps?
  24. I see by her name that Helga is of Icelandic origin, I wonder if she used some of that money to help steer her (once our) little island out of its dire financial straits. Did they get the Grammy, too? Those thing aren't worth the cast iron that went into making them.
