  1. I only saw one brief mention of it in a search....my bad back kept me from checking them out til a few days ago...one store was about 80% cleaned out, and nothing, I mean nothing was in order. They had only dropped cds to 50% off, and DVD's to 40%! Another one I was able to get to last night had a fair bit of jazz...in the used cd area at least....both stores had one copy of Charles Mingus' The Complete Debut Recordings for about $75, and the latest Ray Charles box for about $60! Sad to see them close, they were the first all under one roof store I saw in Atlanta(Well, except for Tower, but they never had many books) and to think, they were stupid enough to start discounting before Christmas, I wonder why they didn't make enough money to stay open! I know, everyone downloads, but still...they are apparently keeping open Sam Goodys for some reason....

    Lou Rawls

Damn! They are showing him in ads for a Stevie Wonder tribute Concert, and the brief clip of him looked fine! Rest in Peace.
  4. Sounds like from what I heard on ESPN, the Texans are all about keeping their quarterback now, and going with Reggie Bush...I know Bush is going to be great, but to Pass on Vince Young in Texas?????? What the hell am I writing about football for? I don't like football! Funny thing though, I saw parts of 3 games in 3 days, Georgia-West Virginia game, Penn State vs FSU, and Rose Bowl, and those were quite exciting games to a non football guy.....
  5. out 1-10, and only 19.99 at Dvdplanet.com!
  6. Have a great one! So Anne(your 8 year old?) like's Astaire/Roger Movies? Rita was never lovelier than she was in this film, sexiest back ever!
  7. An excellent list Quincy! And now we get to my favorite player as a kid, Simba!(One website said he was called that because of his golden locks! ,) I am sure I am biased for Simmons, but I have seen in print Olbermann, Gammons, and I think George Will as well saying he should be in the HOF. Seven times he hit over .300,(.332 one season) six times he hit 20 or more home runs, and in eight different seasons he drove in more than 90 runs. He's 84th all time with 2472 hits. 64th on the RBI list with 1389. (More than Bench, Carter, Fisk, Piazza, or Ivan Rodriguez have so far ) His .285 lifetime B.A. is the same as Yogi, and better than Bench, Carter, or Fisk. He's 58th on the doubles list, with 483. 55th on games played with 2456. I think he is still in the top ten in Homeruns 248, by a switch hitter(couldn't find a list of top switch hitters for some reason) The guy played in one of the biggest stadiums(before they moved the fences in, Busch was about as bad a homerun stadium as there was), and was hit by a pitch that broke a bone in his hand in his best home run season, 26. He played on some very bad teams, year after in in the 70's. Simmons was the one guy you didn't want to face in the Cards lineup with runners on base, and he was frequently pitched around. And he was a good catcher, at one time. One year he caught 153 games, another 154(One season he played in 161 games!) I think like Carter, and Piazza, seeing them catch near the end of their careers, makes you forget how good they once were. I'm not saying he's better than the other hall of fame catchers, just that he belongs there...hell, he didn't get enough votes to even be eligible now, and I just don't know how it happened. (I think there is some new version of the Veterans Committee) I don't agree with Olbermann that Simmons was a better Switch Hitter than Eddie Murray...Murray had many more hits, homers, R.B.I.'s than Simmons, but only hit 2 points higher, and I do believe 1st base isn't quite as hard on you as catching.....
  8. Just for you Dan! I agree, don't know why he ain't in there yet....
  9. A good argument is made for those two D. Evans guys....
  10. If you never read the Big Show by Keith Olbermann, and Dan Patrick, pick it up! Even the stuff that should be boring(So you want to get into broadcasting) isn't, and Keith has one of the best baseball minds, period. In a chapter on Pete Rose yes, or no for the the Hall, they got to talking about players that Obermann feels should be in the hall...lets start with Keith Hernandez...I'll just add after seeing him play for years in St. Louis, he was the best first baseman of his era.
  11. No, it don't mean shit. Charlie Hustle IS baseball as far as I'm concerned. He never threw any games. It's not in his nature. Bet on em’, sure. But that’s different. And as far as I know, being a nice guy isn't a prerequisite to being inducted. Shit, if Cobb can be in the hall, Rose sure as hell should be. One of the few times Johnny has it right! I think I mentioned this here before, but what is worse, betting on your team to win(And I am sure, on other teams he wasn't playing) or What Cap Anson did??? I cannot see how Anson can belong there, and Rose doesn't. Anson helped damage the game of baseball, much more than Rose ever did.... a quick google search pulled up this interesting page on Cap Anson, and his racism. http://www.capanson.com/chapter4.html
  12. edit.... funny headline, not so funny right now....
  13. Fuck....just fuck............. I feel asleep for a few hours thinking only one miner had died, then saw it was the other way around. Only 1 W. Virginia coal miner now said found alive Wed Jan 4, 2006 3:04 AM ET MORE TALLMANSVILLE, West Virginia (Reuters) - Only one of 13 miners who were in a West Virginia coal mine when it was hit by an explosion was found alive, a company official told family members on Wednesday, after reports hours earlier that 12 had survived led to rejoicing. Virginia Dean, whose uncle was in the mine, said, "Only one lived. They lied."
  14. Jim, WD45 I feel your pain as well! Jim, that's for the offer, I have my Mom's super strong pain pills, which don't do anything, anyway. Yes, I my leg is somewhat numb, and tingly. My leg just seems so weak, I just drag it along. I am using a walker just to get from my room to use the bathroom (From the TMI file, it's taking me 3 minutes to start peeing, don't know if it's the painpills, or the back issue ) Chuck, right now, life isn't going on. I can't work, or sleep much. I spend 22-23 hours a day in bed. Sometimes I can sit in a chair for a half hour. Several times, I have come out to use the computer, sit for a sec, the pain reaches 10 on a scale of 1 to 10 and I crawl back into bed, where the pain isn't nearly as bad. My 74 year old Father is having to bring food and water to me(can't use a walker and hold on to a plate)Wish we hadn't given away Mom's wheel chair, but we can rent one. If I have ruptured another disc, I wish it could have happened in January....
  15. I don't know what motivated Reardon to rob the store, but the 'medication made me do it' is a load of horse hockey to mix my sports here. From what I've read, Reardon was on anti-depression drugs because he was greiving over his son who died a couple of years ago -- the son died at the age of 20. I always share your doubt on these kinds of excuses, but in this case, it just might be true. From all reports Reardon is financially secure, has no history of trouble with the law, so I would cut him some slack on this one. I agree. I usually think stories like his are B.S. but with him losing his son, it may very well be a combination of things...I missed this the first time I read the story, but heard it on ESPN. Reardon also underwent a heart angioplasty last week and has been taking medication for that condition.
  16. I recall a fair number of folks here have suffered in the past from one of the more poorly designed parts of the human body. I first screwed my back up when I was 16 taking an intake manifold off my 69 Impala. It gave me trouble on and off , but after twice hurting it at Borders(You end up lifting a lot of weight working for years at a busy book store, believe it or not!) I had surgery to remove a disc in 1999. I did a lot better after the surgery, but still had some minor pain. Early this year, I had pain down my left leg, just as I was trying to start a lawn service business(The very morning I was to start, a good omen, no doubt) Funny thing was, the pain would make it hard to walk, yet as soon as I got out there with a mower, the pain would go away for a few hours! It didn't help my back much that when my Mom was dying, she needed someone to pull her up in her hospital bed, as she would slowly slip down during the day(She could only sleep sitting up in bed) After she passed, my back started to get better, I could straighten my left leg out the same as my right leg again come August. Well, on the 23rd, I was cleaning out my 79 Lincoln for a friend who is going to buy it from me. I was doing very minor stuff, cleaning the white leather, the windows, and some of the clutter...picking up a bottle behind the front seat set my back off. I came in for a few minutes, put some ice on my back, then went back out again. big mistake. I was starting to walk funny, my left leg just doesn't want to go out in front of me. Some pain, but I could live with it. By the next day, I could barely walk, I was shuffling like Tim Conway did on the Carol Burnett show. I can't even begin to stretch my Leg out at all. Sometimes it feels like my leg will give out. Great time of year to have this happen, eh? All doctors are on vacation of course. My GP, a really swell guy, can't admit anyone to the hospital anyway. My orthopedic surgeon moved away from town soon after my surgery. The doctor who did my Mom's surgery, did a good job, but made her wait way too long, months after the disc blew out in her back. Her pain was much worse than mine ever was before my surgery. The pain I'm in right now, is many times worse than what I thought was pretty bad in 99. I don't know what exactly I am asking of people here...(Could be the mega dosage of Hydrocodone is fogging my brain) I get the feeling I will need to go to the E.R. soon. When my Mom couldn't get out of bed the pain was so bad, we called 911, and I they were not going to admit her at first, acted like there wasn't much they could do for a "backache" I really had get in the doctors face just to get her admitted overnight. I'm not really up to a fight, but what can I do if my back doesn't get better, or gets even worse??? The doctor that admitted my Mom to the hospital earlier this year for pneumonia (Mom couldn't come into the office, she came out to the ambulance to verify her condition-long story) she's on vacation. Every doctor we can think of is away! Grrr!

  18. What would be great is if Baltimore, or Toronto could sneak in somehow....Hey, who thought last year that the White Sox would not only win it all, but make it look easy???
  19. As Krusty once said, "Im wishing everyone here a merry Christmas, a happy Chanukah, a crazy Kwanza and a solemn and dignified Ramadan." P.S. I hope that each and every Atheist on the board will have an epiphany and will become........agnostic at least!
  20. A long, but interesting piece from Espn's Bill Simmons on Damon...(Of course, I may have just found it interesting cuz it's December, and any baseball talk is interesting now! http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=simmons/051223
