  1. I seem to recall folks here claiming they had these totally hot hair stylists, but I think it was just their fantasies typing. I get a haircut, once a year, whether I need it or not, only by a woman.
  2. You too!?!? I thought I was the only one. I been checking the SI Truth & Rumors section everyday for the past week. ← Man, it had gotten so bad, I almost thought about joining ESPN's Insider!
  3. I was watching the DVD from the Benny Goodman Centenial Collection CD/DVD set, and they showed a rehearsal for the 1966 Belgium Jazz festival with this song, which had supposedly just been written for the festival (Benny said it would be the highlight of the show) and they also showed the version they did for the concert. Interesting little tune, but I couldn't find a listing for the song on Allmusic except for this DVD, and a google search kept bringing up reviews of the DVD as well. So, was it ever on a record, was a tribute to Thelonius, or to Buddists?
  4. It's been several weeks since the season ended, and I'm getting the shakes! Let's start it with a somewhat surprising move by the Cubs...(I guess they will win the series in '06!) Cubs tell Garciaparra to seek better fit elsewhere Where will he end up????
  5. Just saw that she has a sister that is an actress. Done a fair bit of work, her name is Laura Silverman.
  6. Must have slept with someone to win that....
  7. to read this story! http://www.slate.com/id/2130006/?nav=ais
  8. or those of the 60's? My Dad had a 1966 Chevy ll 100(Nova) with a 275 Hp 327(the "lesser" 327 that year) it weighed under 3000 lbs, so it was as fast as a Vette with that motor. and cost all of $2300 up in Detroit. Not my Dad's!
  9. Funny, I like about half of those!
  10. Several Wows there, but this one is amazing, IMO... If your house gets burgled, you have to delete all your music from your laptop when you get home. That's because the EULA says that your rights to any copies terminate as soon as you no longer possess the original CD.
  11. Use this link to go directly to the catalog page. The latest printed catalog is available for download as a pdf file on this page - better than nothing. BTW - if you want to browse the catalog like you are used to do online, you can rip the whole site to your harddisc, Xaldon web spider or other software will create a mirror of the whole site. With a fast connection it doesn't take too long. ← this is what I get clicking the link.... Not Found The requested document was not found on this server. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Web Server at concordmusicgroup.com
  12. I wonder if they figure in future dvd sales, or only worry about ad sales now? RDK???
  13. Thanks for posting this link! Man, why oh why did they tear the "Checkerdome" down?
  14. Was the wife amused more the 2nd and 3rd time? Did you change it up with "NO, you MORONS!! He's got a HARD-ON! or "NO, you MORONS!! He's got WOOD!!!!
  15. I don't think it has been mentioned before here, King Kong is finally coming to DVD! From what I have read, they had to really dig to find pristine prints to make this edition. Have seen 30 second clips on TCM, and it really, really looks great! Out Nov. 22nd. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AY3KN...&s=dvd&v=glance
  16. Missed the image before....a hell of a movie, ain't it? When Mitchum was really inspired(as he was in the original Cape Fear and Sundowners as well) he was as good an actor as you will ever see. What really amazes me, is that in both Night of the Hunter, and Cape Fear, even though he is evil incarnate, you almost root for him!
  17. Gotta agree with you on the Dylan song ...never heard it before(Not the biggest Dylan fan in the world, sue me! ) But love her version, and will now have to check out the original version. It's an instrumental version, correct? I won't have to listen to him sing will I? Yeah, she sounds more than a little like Billie, but it doesn't grate like most everyone else I have heard try to sound like Billie.... ← Hey Berigan have you checked out the Dylan version yet? I'm curious as to what you think. I saw her in concert a couple of months ago. Because I love the Dylan version I was a little disconcerted when she changed the melody. (Not that Dylan wouldn't change it even more if he performs it live nowadays.) The band I saw her with would definitely be called a jazz band though she accompanied herself on acoustic guitar-- something I don't think I've ever seen a jazz singer do. I was put off a bit by her Lady Day phrasing on her first number (Leoanard Cohen's "Dance me to the End of the Night") but after that I quite liked her. Not enough to make me buy one of her cds however. ← No, haven't checked out the Dylan version yet. I clearly need to listen to more Dylan than the 5 songs you hear all the time....But have a long list of music I need to purchase so it may take awhile to get to Dylan!
  18. Check the reviews on amazon... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-h...6833609-4860834 Then read no matter what we do, we are screwed! http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/...50329134343.htm edit...stupid dumass brower bug? message from Amazon! Try >this link<, or just do a search
  19. My Dad had a few electric mowers in the 80's into the 90's. The cord is a pain, but the ones we had, had 2 blades so did a nice job of mulching. I bought a cordless leaf blower last spring. Does a very nice job, but could run out of gas (So to speak) fairly quickly. A small yard might be just fine for a battery powered mower.
  20. I would have to say my favorite as well.
  21. Good question. I meant the music extant on the previous release -- whatever played in the background when the movies were on TV in the 1980s/early 1990s and before. They certainly weren't completely silent. There probably is not a printed score in that sense (for the originals). I should add that the music being played on the TCM re-releases of the Lloyd films is almost certainly what is on these DVDs, so it's good to know that it is pretty decent, according to Berigan. I am just wondering what happened to the music from the much earlier release. ← Here is the info on Robert Israel, who did 20 new scores for the Lloyd films...don't know what happened to the originals! http://www.flickeralley.com/fa_partners_03.html So, sounds like Speedy was the one with the fire engine scene! thanks! I must have only caught part of the movie then! Grandma's Boy to be on TCM on the 20th. Seems Chaplin was a fan of this film. http://www.turnerclassicmovies.com/ThisMon...7C24008,00.html
  22. Well, in fact... [from Mike Lipskin´s Stride Piano website] ← Very interesting! Never heard of him, but hopefully, I will "hear" him!
  23. Do you feel that a few facts are missing from this story????? Female rapist sentenced The 24-year-old woman found guilty on Thursday of forcing sex on a sleeping man has been sentenced to eight months in prison by a Bergen court. The woman was sentenced according to rape laws, for having obtained sexual access to a sleeping man. This was the appeals trial, after she had been sentenced to nine months for the same offense. The assault took place at a post-party gathering in a Bergen apartment on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004. The woman admitted to taking the man's erect penis in her mouth but claimed that he was awake and approved. The man awoke and became extremely upset and has had psychological difficulties as a result of the incident. The appeals jury again found in favor of the man's version, the woman having suffered a severe loss of credibility by changing her story just before the first trial began. She had originally denied that any sexual contact took place, but then said it was consensual after a DNA report emerged. This is the first time in Norway that a woman has been convicted for rape as the sole assailant. There is one prior case of a woman being convicted of being an accessory to rape, along with two male co-defendants. http://www.aftenposten.no/english/local/article1152684.ece
  24. The Birth Month For the Best Health People who are born in December are quite possibly healthier than the rest of us--and a lot healthier than those born in March. Those with December birthdays are predisposed to respiratory syncytial virus, an infection that causes pneumonia, but that's nothing compared to people who are born in March, who are predisposed to a veritable medical textbook of illnesses and disorders: Alzheimer's, schizophrenia, autism, narcolepsy, Hodgkin's disease, multiple sclerosis, bipolar disorder, and epilepsy. Medical experts from a variety of prestigious research institutions, including Stanford University, Southwest Missouri State University, and Stanley Medical Research Institute in Bethesda, Md., have independently found a link between the month in which you were born and a predisposition to certain illnesses, reports ABC News. If there is any explanation between birth month and disease it is most likely environmental, although no study has been able to prove a definitive cause-and-effect relationship. For example, fetal exposure to a virus in the second trimester of pregnancy when neurodevelopment begins may be linked to schizophrenia. What diseases and disorders are most common for each birth month? ABC News compiled this list: JANUARY Alzheimer's, schizophrenia, respiratory syncytial virus FEBRUARY Alzheimer's, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, epilepsy MARCH Alzheimer's, schizophrenia, autism, narcolepsy, Hodgkin's disease, multiple sclerosis, bipolar disorder, epilepsy APRIL Leukemia, dyslexia, learning disabilities, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, bipolar disorder, epilepsy, ALS MAY Dyslexia, learning disabilities, multiple sclerosis, ALS, Parkinson's disease JUNE Anorexia, diabetes, dyslexia, learning disabilities, multiple sclerosis, ALS, Parkinson's disease, and celiac disease JULY Diabetes, celiac disease, dyslexia, learning disabilities AUGUST Diabetes, celiac disease, autism, Crohn's disease SEPTEMBER ADHD, asthma OCTOBER Asthma, eczema NOVEMBER Asthma, eczema, respiratory syncytial virus DECEMBER Respiratory syncytial virus The medical experts agree that while there appears to be a pattern between birth month and disease, none of this is a prediction for what will happen to specific individuals. In addition, more research is needed to figure out how a person's birth month actually influences his or her health.
