  11. Aric, I'm not sure you'd say some of the things you say to people if you were standing in front of them.....well, maybe you'd say it once..... m~ ps, I do wish I had a mint copy of Byrd in Hand to have signed!
  12. I've seen both Byrd and Hubbard in the past 5 years. Donald played two nights in a row.....the first night his horn was miked horrible and I sat right in front of it.....could not believe how bad he sounded...was most likely the combination of his playing and the sound. The second night was much, much better.....but he is not the Donald Byrd we would all like to remember. I saw Freddie a few years ago and his playing was not good....and he knows it. He even told me before the show that he shouldn't be playing....this was a show in Indy with may of the guys he grew up with.....Slide, Spaulding, Buddy Montgomery, Billy Wooten, Phil Ranlien (sp), Mel Rhyne and many others. It was a joy to see them all together.....at that time, Ididn't care of Freddie could play or not.....just wanted to photograph this show.....very cool! I don't think either one of these guys think they are playing like it's the 60s....still it was a joy to catch both of them. m~
  13. I had one defective disc early in 2006 and had no problems getting a replacement....! I thought they were quick to reply and make it right. Mark~
  14. Happy Birthday buddy, have a good one!!!! See you in Chicago in March!!! m ~
  15. Note spelling Clem, Oumou isn't one of the extremely numerous Diabates; she's the only (as far as I know) Dioubate (who sings). Damn, shoulda thorter that! AND Lekan Animasaun, as well. MG ....asking Clem to "note spelling" is one of the funniest things I've heard in 2007!!!
  16. Nice, intimate place to see a show....~ Wish I were in NYC to catch it! m~
  17. Yea, David's a cool guy....very fun to talk with. We discussed his upcoming release on Highnote....I think it's called "Life". He did a nice version of "What a Wonderful Life" on the flute during the first set, I believe this will be on the new cd. He's bummed the Showcase is closing as well as it was his primary reason for coming to Chicago. I'm sure they'll find another place in the near future. Some dude came by with several pies before the show....David's wife was running around the Showcase passing out pie....funny. I'll post more on another thread as I don't want to further highjack this one. m~
  18. ...yep, just made it through a quick edit of my images, here are a couple. m~
  19. ...it's a happy new year already!
  20. Happy New Years to all. Just returned home from the final performaces at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago......wonderful shows but bittersweet as well. m!
  21. I'll be at both shows tomorrow night.....I'm optimistic Joe and Wayne will find something! Will post photos sometime Monday! m~
