Gush is one of Mats Gustafsson's many groups. This one also includes Raymond Strid and someone else whose name I am forgetting. I'm about halfway through the Rossbins I ordered and have enjoyed all of them, although some did not connect as much as others. The Sugimoto / Krebs disc left me slightly cold. The other I have heard so far (More Gloom, More Light and Our Ur) are great.

You don't really need to sleep before going in for another day of work, do you? Where are your priorities???????? (this coming from someone who just took a nap before dinner.)

up, for Scelsi streaming on WHRB, starting 11 minutes ago.
  5. I'd never noticed this click before, but it is on my copy, too. I agree that it sounds like a problem with the tapes.

I have finally heard my first Derek Bailey. Derek Bailey & Noel Akchote - Close to the Kitchen (Blue Chopsticks) I bought a $4 used copy of this and am extremely impressed. Is anyone here familiar with this disc? If so, how representative is it of Bailey's (and Akchote's) work? After one listen, I highly recommend this disc. Worth buying for the first track alone.
  7. I saw this yesterday and really enjoyed it. I thought they did a great job casting. Martin Freeman, in particular, was spot on. I didn't find this to be "in-joke" at all.

up for some air. Harvard's WHRB is starting their Spring orgies again, and one of them will be on Abdullah Ibrahim. Schedule here and webcast link here.

Harvard's WHRB is starting their Spring orgies again, and one of them will be on Giacinto Scelsi. Schedule here and webcast link here. Also of interest are the Abdullah Ibrahim, Joe Lovano, five Russian composers (Mily Balakirev, Alexander Borodin, César Cui, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, and Modest Mussorgsky) Charlie Parker and Tokyo jazz.
  10. I've never actually heard Fireshose, somehow. I'm a fan of the Minutemen and have seen Watt in concert, but missed Firehose. I'll check out one of their shows. I forgot about Mogwai, too. There are some fantastic shows of theirs, too. Any show with a crisp recording of "Mogwai Fear Satan" or "My Father My King" always makes me happy.
  11. just one minor quibble: this will be at least the third disc (second in the studio) since Grimes' return. Dennis Gonzalez' Nile River Suite was the first studio, and the live set on Ayler with Murray and Drake was the second disc. That said, I'm looking forward to hearing this one.
  12. Non-jazz I really love: The Fugazi shows, the Bardo Pond sets, Godspeed You Black Emperor, the Mermen, the Dirtbombs and Explosions in the Sky. My wife is a big fan of the Jason Mraz shows. I need to check out the Minutemen and Butthole Surfers shows one of these days. There is also some good jazz, especially the Yo Miles shows (one show with ROVA), the Karl Denson and Charlie Hunter, too.
  13. thanks for posting this! we just had a blast watching it.

There was quite a bit of discussion of this set over at IHM. I seem to recall it being described as quite a mixed bag, to be polite. I think someone posted that the set pops up on ebay from time to time rather inexpenively, but still not something I've ever felt the need to track down.

never heard this disc. If anyone sees a used copy available please send me a PM, as I would love to hear it!

I've heard one disc on this label, the solo Martin Siewert, and it was very different than I expected. Almost "poppy." The other releases look interesting. I'd really like to hear the upcoming release of "brandlmayr.fennesz.dafeldecker." Supposedly Thrill Jockey will; be distributing this label in the U.S., but nothing seems to be loaded on their site so far.

My cds arrived today, less than a week after ordering. No jewel cases for four of them (the earlier discs were all in slipcovers originally) but that is not a problem for me.

I recently ordered the new William Parker Quartet disc Sound Unity from Aum Fidelity. If you enjoyed O'Neal's Porch grab a copy of the new one immediately. Same lineup, recorded live on their Canadian Tour during the summer of 2004. As much as I enjoy this group and this album I do feel it starts off a bit slowly, and doesn't grab me as much as I expected it to. Perhaps the disc was arranged like a live set, with the band taking some time to warm up and really take off. Hamid is a monster, and the whole band sounds great, so I definitely recommend this one. However, if you were lukewarm on the earlier disc, you could safely give this one a pass, too.

Interesting. Bob Weston is the bass player in Shellac and mostly records hard rock bands. I wonder if his engineering will work well for this band. I'm not familiar with Mike Pearson at all, and I have trouble imagining vocals working well with a group of this size and energy. I'm looking forward to hearing it.

Perhaps that is how he avoids trouble with the "notoriously bad" Italian postal service. Out of the two I have heard so far I prefer Luwa. I must have listened to that disc at least once a day for the first few days afterI received it.

Let us know what you think! I've got three of those en route to me now, too. Three of those on my list? if so, as you have "luwa", you ordered the Curran, too? Got some tape or minidisc with some performance of his Simphonia or what it's called, though it has been long since I had that in my hands... can't remember if/how much I liked it. I just checked and that is not completely correct. I ordered "our ur" and "More gloom, more light," but not the Assumed Possibilities disc.
