No, that was Braxton House. I believe Brandon Evans ran/runs Parallactic. The Parallactic titles are available here: http://www.injazz.net you caught me before I edited my post! You are correct. Parallactic was Evans'.
  4. I picked up a copy of this disc, it looks like a boot with no details of date or personnel , any one help me with these details,?? I've got the info at home somewhere. I'll see if I can find it when I return on Tuesday.

I was doing a search over on JC and saw that at least three people "intensely disliked" Jason Kahn -- Songs For Nicholas Ross on Rossbin. I will definitely be avoiding that one. Thanks for the link Chaney! I remember some live Braxton and Sonny Simmons releases before Parallactic disappeared. It would be nice if that material was made available again somehow.
  6. When I Took That Train "Just heard about the gig - I might even make it to this one. The new cd arrived today - the 40th album if I'm not mistaken. The cover features you-know-who standing on a corner in a European city on a rainy day. I'd guess it's London - you can see a red double-decker bus and what looks like a London Underground sign. The old buildings look very distinctive, so the location should be easily identified. The man himself is bearded, wearing a light brown suit and a black hat. He's quite a way back from the camera, so I get the sense that the picture was taken by a companion rather than by a passer-by on request. The first cover featuring Jandek in an identifiable location, and also the first to feature other people (distant) in the background. Musically the album is very similar to the last one (shock horror), featuring acoustic guitar throughout all 11 songs. Lyrically, it's pretty much a sequel to The Door Behind, apparently dealing with the same relationship, which seems to be going well. He's as obsessive and intense about it as always, but mentions that he's been around enough to be able to take it if the relationship ended. Though the mood is positive and even ecstatic, the delivery is often disturbing, as usual partly because of the intimate nature of the material. Much of the lyrics seem to be spontaneous, and on a few songs in the middle of the album he repeatedly babbles long, repetitive lines until he runs out of breath. The last few songs - Angel Moves, Thing Called Me, and My Escape, introduce more opaque imagery. Thing Called Me in particular is one of his odd metaphysical numbers, in which he sings of having existed for 6 million years... another head-scratcher, folks! On first hearing I didn't notice the album title appearing in the lyrics."

No experience yet, but I want to order three of these. (Neumann/Nakamura, Kawasaki / Kahn, Muller / Nmperign) One is now OOP, so I'll have to grab a copy asap. I'd be very interested to read Jon's thoughts on these titles, if he checks in again and sees this.
  8. Not officially announced yet. There was a brief mention in the Wire, but this is definitely still a rumor at this point.
  9. time to start looking into cheap airfare: "Jandek is playing at the 'Sage' in Newcastle on Sunday the 22nd of May"

I can see the headline now: "Single car crash, no one injured. Authorities blame insufficiently interesting "free-jazz" album."

I enjoy O'Neal's Porch quite a bit but I never thought it lived up to the extreme hype it got when it was released / reviewed by the New York Times, etc.

I would love it if Kevin would just release some new material in editions greater than 11, or however many copies of Impish Tyrant were released. I missed out on Horror of Birth, too. Pita / Marhuag would be interesting. It strikes me as more of a Mego than an Erstwhile session, but I'd love to hear the results either way.

12 discs is probably more live V5 than I need right about now. Not a bad price, considering the size of the set, but this one seems like it is for completists only.

Heyner is the bass player for No Neck Blues Band and Test, correct? I'm not familiar with the other two musicians on this one. These all look interesting. I'll grab the Marhaug discs, maybe one or two of the others as well.

I saw an extremely impressive duo set of Pita and Lasse Marhaug last night between 2-3 AM in the No Fun Festival in Red Hook (Brooklyn). massively loud, my ears are just returning to normal now, nine hours later. my wife said she thinks it was louder than the Merzbow show she saw in Tokyo a few years ago. I've been listening to more and more of Lasse's work recently. He seems to have quite a range. Was the set you saw improvised? It might be interesting to hear another all-laptop disc on Erst. I would suggest Marhaug / Drumm, but they have already collaborated and you don't do pre-existing pairings, do you?

Dennis Gonzalez just announced that Nile River Suite, his disc w/ Henry Grimes (his first "post-comeback" recording), Sabir Mateen, Roy Campbell Jr and Mike Thompson has been repressed. It went out of print pretty quickly, and is a very good album. He also has a new disc coming out on Clean Feed Records this month. Idle Wild features Oliver Lake on soprano and alto as well as Ken Filiano and Mike Thompson.

I wonder which ones you chose to skip? I skipped the Alan Shorter, Archie Shepp and Paul Bley discs.
  18. I will second that. The cds I order from Jon always arrive extremely quickly.

I just noticed on the Aum Fidelity site that William Parker has a new album, Sound Unity, coming up featuring the same lineup as O'Neals Porch. I know he has many naysayers here but I will be picking this one up soon after it is released.

My copy of Certain Blacks is 3533. Either they are distributing them randomly or this title has been flying off the shelves.

I haven't received the package yet, but Drimala's shipping confirmation didn't mention any of the five Creative Sources discs being out of stock.

I don't really have many thoughts on it, I bought it when it came out (coincidentally partly because of Martin's rave about it), and really disliked it, I probably only even played it once, maybe twice. I didn't hear those connections you mention, but I'm really not a fan of Wand or Thomas improvising electronics (I thought Lunge live were pretty pointless, not crazy about the records either). I found this group of musicians somewhat interesting maybe ten years ago when they were initially experimenting with electronics (not Oxley, the others), but they're not my thing anymore. glad you're enjoying it, though, John! Jon, thanks for the feedback. The use of electronics is a lot rougher than in AMM, that is for sure. I do think that a lot of people here would see some connection to what AMM were doing prior to Rowe leaving, if only due to lack of experience with the genre.

I went a bit overboard and got 12 of these. I'm going to begin listening to them today, starting with two of the Art Ensemble discs.

what jon abbey said, plus I would also rcommend: Trapist - Highway My Friend (Hat) Martin Brandlmayr (drums, percussion), Martin Siewert (guitar, lapsteel, electronics), Joe Williamson (bass) Die Instabilitat der Symmetrie (Grob) Martin Brandlmayr/Werner Dafeldecker/Stefan Nemeth/Martin Siewert Both are fantastic albums featuring both musicians from Too Beautiful To Burn. The Radian disc would be the easiest to track down, and is a great place to start.
  25. The part I deleted is not of any meaning in this new context here. ubu (major bully from zurich - those swiss are all nazis, anyway, didn't you know?) I support what ubu is saying here. I stay out of the Politics Forum, for the most part, and don't care to read what goes on in there but, once someone starts posting anti-semitic garbage, steps need to be taken. In my opinion, any posts that are racist, sexist, anti-semitic, etc. are attacks upon some of our fellow posters, specifically, and offensive to (most of) the rest of us. If these racist posts keep getting spewed on the board I would hope that b3-er would delete them and ban the person posting them. Beyond that, everyone should really take a step back and take a deep breath. There is way too much negative junk on the board recently. How about, rather than attacking another poster or getting worked up because of some interpersonal issues of people most of us have never met we all spent the same time and effort posting on an album we love or giving some recognition to an artist who hasn't been discussed recently. It would make the board a lot nicer place to hang at and maybe some of the people who are currently taking timeouts from here will come on back.
