Just wanted to let people know.

Tommy was mixed the way it is on purpose by Chris Lambert, the band's then manager to allow the concept to breathe. I've read that, but I forget who said it. I'll pick Tommy at Leeds over Isle of Wight any day because the mix on Leeds is great, evrything is up front, especially Moon. That's pretty much what they were trying to do all along, I think. I like the first half better. Once the story really kicks in on side 3, I think the songs get weaker. That's what I think was more successful on Quadrophenia, each song was a seperate point in time rather than a connecting linear story. It's having to write songs to describe action taking place that make it weak, though I understand why it's been done; i.e. Miracle Cure, Do You Think It's Alright (though I like this one, especially that last chord), Underture (why this is there, I don't even know; seeing Sparks played in The Kids Are Alright from Woodstock visually looks totally exciting). And yes, all the B-sides from the 60's I love also even though some aren't even good songs, I just loves that time of music.

Quadrophenia is one of my favorite Who albums. But my outright favorites are the pre-Tommy stuff (Live At Leeds is great): My Generation A Quick One The Who Sell Out I was surprised that recently I felt I didn't like Who's Next as much as others; the songs feel roughly the same tempo which I think is even greater on Quadrophenia, but lyrically I like the subject matter better on Quadrophenia. Overblown? Yes, but I think the movie helped tie it better to the mods (and therefore punk in sense of it being a movement) than just the album did. Keeping Moon restrained to backing tracks is one of the things that kept everything at the same tempo, took a bollock out of them. Ironically, I like Who Are You but that's because I heard it when I was younger and didn't have these opinions. I like it more than Who's Next overall. I know it's not a great album, but neither it A Quick One, and I love that. I wasn't crazy about The Who By Numbers either. But I can't get enough of Face Dances & It's Hard! There's a handful of songs from both albums I think are great, but again, I was pre-teen when they came out. Tommy sounds better live than on the original album. I think that covers it for me.

Does anyone have a song called "Abstractions"? It's from an album called Jazzical Moods (I think). The session was in December 1954. Looking for a cdr of that song. I have a version of that album under a different name but without that song. Thanks.

Nope, not The Puddle, just Puddle. I actually owned the trademark for that name in the 90's even though there were a few bands named Puddle. Makes me wonder if Puddle Of Mudd were going to call themselves Puddle but saw it was already trademarked. I might've made a crappy band amend their name! -
In case anyone's wondering what that gibberish is, instead of typing "up" , I'll just run my hand over the keyboard. I used to do it on BNBB.

, now I get it. Thanks. I wasn't reading it right. At least I didn't ask about the pun behind Mingus Dynasty.

Thanks, but I'm still unclear on it. Is he indentifying himself as female & neuter (does neuter means both or neither?)

First part=first name. Second part are the years in the 90's that the band I started , called Puddle (rock band; influenced by Husker Du (one of my all time favorites), The Ramones with some Sonic Youth for good measure) were together. 11 releases inside of 7 years. -
I just order Freedom Now from Candid in England a few weeks ago. $17.99 shipping included. Also ordered Mingus: Reincarnation Of A Lovebird & Mysterious Blues for $13.99 each.

When are we going to get Other Voices & Full Circle on CD?

Looking for a few things of Mingus. Please PM.

P.D., I do the EXACT same thing and feel the same way you do about this. I'm still mystified why Columbia is putting out Miles Davis's box #3 last. With the Blackhawk stuff just out, it allowed me to get through Quiet Nights (1962) and now I have to wait at the very least until, my guess, close to Xmas 2004.

Who'da thunk it! Us girlfriendless geek in our teens will live to be the oldest of our generation! The meek DO inherit the earth! I don't even need health insurence. -
Although I like Carnegie more, I agree with wondering what the hell was going on with his louder passeges. It is pretty bad, and the piano is pretty low, but in regard to playing, it's more lively as JSngry said; a special show compared to a club date, I can understand the difference in playing. Though on the new Blackhawk set, I can hardly hear the bass. BTW, anyone have any info on box #3, Seven Steps To Berlin? This'll be mostly live stuff right? All the same songs again?
-
So I listened to Blackhawk then Carngie Hall after that. I like Carnegie more. Miles's playing is more lively. And you???

I'm a fan, but found out I don't like everything he's done (complete Debut box, that was a pricey mistake for me). So before I buy it, I ask for opinions on it.
